Stokes for the McCluskey role

846

Anthony Stokes is in the best form of his Celtic career at the moment, arguably the best form of his life if you overlook his stunning cameo at Falkirk.  It’s hard to know if this is related to no longer being in the shadow of a more favoured son, or if Anthony has just got his ‘stuff’ together, but his intervention was absolutely crucial in our only Champions League win so far.  He had all the wisdom necessary to bate an opponent into a clumsy foul.

The psychology of a three year contract, worth more money, before performance bonuses, than the player will be able to spend is not always a good thing for a footballer, but the competition for a starting berth up front for Celtic is acute.  On the back of his winning goal on Sunday Amido Balde has been talking about his ambitions to secure a regular place, Teemu Pukki is guaranteed nothing while Georgios Samaras has been used regularly as a striker.  Anthony will remain under pressure to perform.

All of this competition will come into sharp focus in Amsterdam next week.  Celtic will come under pressure for most of the game, but this is something they are comfortable with.  We will need someone to exploit the openings Ajax will leave in their defence.  Put your money on Anthony for the George McCluskey role.

  1. 15 mons gone. Hibs battering Hearts with their version of hoofball. Hearts certs to score first when they eventually get into the Hibs half!!

  2. If I was ever forced to put the current top flight teams into any sort of ‘favourites’ order, I mean really forced, then Hibs would be in the top half as would Aberdeen and Dundee Utd.

The bottom half would certainly feature Hearts, Motherwell, Kilmarnock.

As for St Mirren, Inverness, Ross County, Partick Thistle and St Johnstone I’m pretty neutral.

  3. I am gutted seeing Stokes getting a new deal. I had expected him to leave(for Hibs or Kilmarnock) and was already thinking of the team without him going forward.

Its all about opinions I guess, and I know he is a favorite on here, just not my type of player that’s all.

I admire your stance my friend and you will receive no criticism from me. However, I will not be going back to that place ever. You know I follow the Bhoys home and away as much as I can but I just can’t. Let me explain…

From 78/79 I missed one game at mordor when we played them there with the exception of the game that the disgraced knight barred us. I simply could not let eleven good men play there and take the bile that came out of the other three stands and from their opponents, much as I hated giving them the money but at least they were paying their taxes…or at least that’s what I thought!

In the treble winning season I decided I could not go back and did not go to the game they beat us 5-1. I lasted one game and until they died I never missed a game.

I cannot go back mate pure and simple they did not pay their taxes and cheated us and everybody else. I will not donate another brass farthing to them, although anything they get will no doubt go to the SPFL. It pains me that 11 good men will be their without my support but I cannot go back whether it is against them or somebody else, not a penny more will I donate so that the crumbling midden can be sustain for a day longer. It deserves to die like the club that was inhabited it.

All that said I respect you and your ilk that only want to support the Bhoys regardless who we play or where.

I too boycotted the Kilmarnock game in 1994 and I am proud I did, for if I hadn’t we would not be going along to Celtic Park in 2013.

Hope your well mate, best to Minx and hopefully catch you soon.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

It was Killie at CP and was a protest against the old Board

  6. If we are in the semi final of the Scottish cup I will be there no problem, I went to ibrokes when we played the old Huns so I won’t bother me as long as the hoops are there.

The final will be at Celtic park even if we are in it, it won’t be changed no matter what if they where worried about home advantage the semis would have been Celtic park and the final in zombie land because we’ve more chance than the Huns of being in it. HH

4 out of 5 right on Sunday with Swansea drawing. 3 out of 4 last night. Aye, you’re right, tonight’s the night. Cannie beat 4 X 20p trebles and a 20p accumulator to get the ole pulse going ;-)

  10. I would want hibs to beat hearts every time, can’t believe a Celtic fan would want hearts to win what is wrong with some people ? HH

  13. Should be remembered if (a big if) we do get to the SCF, the 25000 or so tickets will go to those who attended the earlier rounds, including the SF.

  14. Canamalar, thanks for your response. However, my question has yet to be answered properly by those who feel Celtic are trying to prop up theOF. Celtic aim to make money and win trophies. Both are more attainable via CL revenue. Why risk that monopoly? I don’t give much creedence to DD’s comments about the huns either. His thinking has always been beyond the the OF.

    We shall see.

It is also important to state that the board do subscribe to the charitable ethos of Celtic in my opinion.

    Is that the only options?

A Supporter for 60 years, but ah “Proddy” Celtic Supporter, well,ah wiz “christened”in a C.O.S.(Kent Street,Calton.) but entering Non-denominational education and endowed with a modicum of intelligence I found Atheism a preferred option to religion, and so my non-conformist life force has progressed un-abated ever since.

So like thousands? of “Proddy ” Tims do we better represent the Celtic ethos?

Pat Nevin in THAT Cup statement accused Celtic Supporters of Sectarianism and Bigotry, and I would have to ask him the question,”Can we “Proddy”/and/or/Atheist Celtic Supporters be exempted from that accusation”?

    only asking like :o)
