Strict liability when playing to gallery

2207

Being responsible is not always easy, especially when it comes to running a football club, where playing to the gallery offers vastly better short-term returns, and no doubt a rush of endorphins.

If your fans are engaged in an activity which regularly brings them to the attention of the courts, and your club into disrepute, it doesn’t matter what you think of the apparent offense.  You may chant an offending song in the shower every morning month, but your only public comment on the matter can be to chastise and urge fans to desist.

Clubs in Scotland voted against what is known as strict liability.  This means they are not held responsible for transgressions by their fans – and who wants to be held responsible for the actions of others who protected from personal liability by hiding in a crowd.

Part of the deal on not having strict liability is that clubs must demonstrate that they take all steps necessary to dissuade and educate their fans from carrying out criminal or regulatory offenses.  It’s simply not possible for club to tell fans their illegal actions were justified, as this would place the club itself in the firing line.

The nonsense following the Scottish Cup final is all background noise as far as we are concerned, but be aware the contagion will spread beyond those you could consider highly dysfunctional operators.

Solving Kids Cancer in memory of Oscar Knox

Our own Bundoran Bhoy will run the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday on behalf of Solving Kids Cancer.  He has put in an enormous amount of work ahead of the event, for a cause which you are only too familiar with.

26 miles is a long way to run.  You can give him some encouragement on his Just Giving page.

Good luck, Tommy.

  6. Very rarely bet on, or indeed watch, friendlies but as I’m at a loose end I’ve made 3 small in vestments in the Engerland v Tom Rogic’s Australie game that’s on ITV tonight. Tom to score anytime (13/2), Australia to win (9/1), Tom to score first and Australia to win (70/1). Jobo to lose £3 – odds on certainty!

  8. Got to say, I cannot think of a recent time when I have been so positive about my Celtic, really.

All the appointments reek of quality and professionalism, a big change from the mediocrity of the last few years. I know we are all on to something very good and positive, just wish geography would let be a season ticket holder again, but the fans who have renewed theirs will be on the cusp of something big!!

Once again, well done to all at Celtic for getting this to happen, and I do mean everyone.

    Hail Hail

  20. In less than a week the huns have issued statements to beat the band, statements that in any normal society are an incitement to violence, they have justified the singing of illegal songs, they have justified their supporters fighting, they have told the sfa in no uncertain terms that they are not to blame for anything, the sfa have appologised to the huns for the treatment they have been on the receiving end of from the Hibs supporters.

They have lied through their teeth again and again yet no one has taken them to task over the lies.

This has happened in less then a week and we are expecting them to have something happen that will be detrimental to them.

Believe it if you like, more fool you.

In the same time span we have appointed a proper coach/manager, he has installed a couple of trusted collegues in position, we have intimated that we will weigh in with a few bob for our new coach.

Our season book sales seem to be doing rather well.

All is good, why should we be bothered with false flags over at the bigot dome, if any news emerges from there and it’s bad, great.
