Strikers and the comfort zone

538

There’s something healthy when the arrival of a new striker, who has yet to trouble the net, has raised the game of an incumbent.  If you talk to footballers they’ll tell you they need to be challenged.  Even most greats hit a comfort zone, where they know they are cherished by manager and fans alike, so that knot in the stomach about where the next contract is coming from never materialises.

Gary Hooper missed this at Celtic.  He was the apple of Neil Lennon’s eye, and clearly top striker at Celtic, but a few seasons in his appetite for the same old challenge seemed to wane.  I’m assured by those who shared a dressing room with Henrik Larsson, this was one area which set the Swede aside.  The accolades meant nothing to him, he wanted every trophy, every record, which perhaps indicates why he captured the Champions League in his mid-30s.

    dont like the SNP

    like Black less

    but NED ??

how many NEDs do you know who went on to UNI and the became an MP ?

    Pure NED made good ??

What exactly does that mean ?

Reminds me of playing 11s with another Celtic Website – their opinion of CQN was not

    very flattering.

There are better Scots who could be politicians but most leave the country to get away from ‘wank Sayers’ who put down all people with potential in Scotland.

I’m well aware of her academic achievement ( and ability) in my time I’ve met plenty of shrewd Wideos… Ok given the acronym Non Educated Delinquent .. You have me there she clearly has a university education but Id say lacks a real life education .. And she scores highly on the delinquent scale given her social media rants and confessions…

She has made good but to be honest the SNP could field a monkey in a kilt in most Scottish seats and win. Such is the nature of one party political dynamic at play at this current time.

Id wager given enough rope, Ms Black will hang herself given the level

of scrutiny she will now be subject to…

I’m generally anti anyone who is any Celtic… I also dont believe in nationalism for Scotland.. So Mhairi Black presses all the wrong buttons for me.

  4. Still in Canada but keeping tabs from overseas… Looking at the thread recently I think there’s a fair few Sevco infiltrators masquerading as Celtic fans!!!

    Don’t like someone’s politics

    Don’t like their accent/speech

Don’t like where they come from

Cant abide the fact they’ve managed to get themselves an education AND, heaven forbid, they don’t like Celtic!!!

Someone in Scotland doesn’t like Celtic??? Hold the front page!!!

I don’t mind folk having a difference of opinion but frankly? Some of the comments recently have been Hunnish in the extreme!!!

I don’t know if they are Sevco trolls but there were three of the posting during the night who take this blog into the depths I wish they would not. I am not convinced that they are not the same person even though they post from apparently different poltical standpoints

Yesterday morning Kitalba wondered why he bothers posting. I am glad he does. I wish the trio I mean did not.

  8. Martin42: Sorry for not responding on Saturday, I was rushing out after I saw your post.

I only ‘discovered’ the mountains of Mourne and South Down after the Good Friday Agreement. Prior to that all visits to Belfast bypassed that beautiful area. About ten years ago I was doing a craft show in Belfast and a guy came up to me and offered me as much fallen wood from his estate as I liked. I bit his hand off, borrowed a large trailer and headed off to Downpatrick. The route took me along the South Down coast and then cutting through the mountains to get to Downpatrick. The guy who let me have the wood couldn’t have been more helpful but the beauty of the area was really outstanding. Each time I went up I varied the route a little and visited places like Spelga Dam.

Other beautiful places I missed out on because of the conflict but that I have since visited are Bearna Uladh (gap of Ulster), especially Mullaghbawn, and the North Antrim coast around Ballycastle and Rathlin Island.

When I complained to the BBC about their failure to mention Celtic`s CL victory over Stjarnan last week, this is the reply I received:

“We covered the build-up to the Celtic match and the result on our evening and night-time bulletins on Wednesday the 15th of July; the day the match took place. We also covered this match comprehensively online and had live commentary on BBC Radio Scotland.

There were other Scottish teams competing in Europe on Thursday the 16th of July and therefore we had moved on to cover them in our bulletins that day.

Thank you, once again, for taking the time to contact us.”

It would seem that once a sporting event has ended there is no mention of it again!

    Cheerio for now,

Good morning from Playa Blanca, where the second week of high altitude beer drinking is going well. Watched the Eibar game and saw a useful performance, albeit it a friendly in a small and tough away ground. Bodes well for Wednesday. Also saw the highlights of the CL game and not sure if SJ had edited out his bad bits, but the criticism appeared slightly OTT. Anyway differing opinions never harmed anyone. Have a good day CQN.

  12. Just been reading back. It’s quite horrible to see guys whom I have met, and know to be good guys, being abused by trolling multi named level 5 stenographers.

The blog made for pleasant reading until they came out from their sewer.

Their aim is to disrupt our blog and sicken decent contributers into packing in. In my view, the answer is to keep blogging but ignore these idiots. It’s a shame that whenever we discuss some of the important issues of the day the twats spew out their hateful guff and derail the blog.

That’s the price we pay for having an open to all blog.

I’m lucky that I’ll be able to watch the golf today. Really looking forward to it. Imagine; a 22 yr old amateur could win it. I’m betting on Spieth and Harrington.

Miserable day down here once again.

Sounds miserable on CQN once again.

Glad to see we fans of Sammi won that wee poll………………………..

Aye, the Yes voters won re wanting Sammi back but only because the NO voters were intimidated by the true Sammi people accusing us NO (we’re better apart Sammi) voters of being cowardly, unpatriotic and wanting to protect our pensions and preserve the status quo (Francis Rossi an awe). Should have been a fresh a fresh start for Celtic and Sammi to go our own ways………….. Yeez blew it bigstyle!!!

How many fae Dundee voted in this poll???? eh! eh! eh!

Dallas Dallas if only the people who are abusing you on this site knew a tenth of what you know and remember about Celtic. Then again, given that the TimMalloys would not be their football team of choice, that is not surprising. You keep on keeping on safe in the knowledge that there is nothing of interest on their own sites and pricks opinions don’t count anyway.

Get a quid or two on Griff & 2-0, as fans we were gutted last season with Legia & Maribor, think the players were too and will make sure we make it this season

HT – honestly didn’t much attention to the Cidtci / McAllister incident, mainly because he didn’t play for us but I think Nadir will get the equivalent to a not proven although after the Tonev case anything could happen

  22. HT

I reckon Ciftci will get a 6 match ban. The footage I’ve seen is pretty damning and he must know he can’t get away with such behaviour. He’ll also find out that Celtic players will be absolutely hammered for any rule breaking. To be fair, if one of our players had been bitten, we would be up in arms.

I was the same and I’ve only watched the incident for the first time. It wouldn’t surprise me to hear the ‘balance of probability’ phrase used again and a subsequent lengthy ban.

Ditto mate, I logged on last night after a long day on the streets and logged back off pretty quick and that’s happening all the time now which is a real shame as CQN has been a big part of my Celt Abroad experience for the last six years:((

I’ve only seen the incident from one angle. It’s clear that McCallister reacts to Ciftci moving his head towards his leg and he can clearly be seen to mouth, “He bit me” to the referee. However, from my limited viewing I can’t actually see Ciftci biting him.
