Strikers and the comfort zone

538

There’s something healthy when the arrival of a new striker, who has yet to trouble the net, has raised the game of an incumbent.  If you talk to footballers they’ll tell you they need to be challenged.  Even most greats hit a comfort zone, where they know they are cherished by manager and fans alike, so that knot in the stomach about where the next contract is coming from never materialises.

Gary Hooper missed this at Celtic.  He was the apple of Neil Lennon’s eye, and clearly top striker at Celtic, but a few seasons in his appetite for the same old challenge seemed to wane.  I’m assured by those who shared a dressing room with Henrik Larsson, this was one area which set the Swede aside.  The accolades meant nothing to him, he wanted every trophy, every record, which perhaps indicates why he captured the Champions League in his mid-30s.

Jimmynotpaul, the similarities are there in the posting styles of Ryecatcher and Rudi, but it may be coincidental.

I fear we may lose Cifcti for a minimum of five games if the SFA behave in their normal manner.

Just off to the hospital to have my check up to confirm or not that I am as thick as a bottle of chips.

Or bring it along on 10/10. Save the postage and the sure and certain outcome of it not arriving.

I’ve never seen bottled chips. I think anyone who suggests such an anathema deserves to be vilified.

Bottled chips, ffs. Whitedoghunch will be raging.

Btw,welcome to the legion of the trolled. You have finally arrived. Your encyclopaediac knowledge of all things Celtic doesn’t cut any mustard with us,you know.

Only once you have been well and truly trolled can you really call yourself a proper CQNer.

The only part of that with which I disagree is `probably` .

Where can I purchase a bottle of chips? That`s the kind of information that could come in handy before any lengthy journey.

  8. Re Cifti, maybe it was lost in translation. Maybe being bitten in Turkish is like being kissed in Scotland? Anyway, 10 game ban I think.

  10. The weather at St Andrews is deteriorating. Should suit the British and Irish players. Paul Lawrie came from 10 shots behind on the final day at Carnoustie in 1999. If he can get over the disappointment of yesterday, he could still be in with a shout. I agree with the poster earlier, and the bookies, that young Spieth is favourite. What a player!

SPFL agrees 3 year deal allowing Scottish Football to be shown on mainstream TV in China for first time. Worth around 500k a year.

In deepest Burgundy on grand parental duty and had to share this with you. The youngest of the three to the daughter who is married to a Frenchman is just eighteen months and a bright, lively wee chap he is. Books are beginning to absorb him for ten minutes now and again and one in particular. It is one of those that is heavy on detail with streets and parks full of people. He is picking up words rapidly and so we spot the cats, the dogs, the woman who looks a bit like Grandma and so on. I spot a certain figure in green and white hoops on two of the pages in the large size format. Only once did I have to tell him and now when asked, “Where is Celtic?” he points straight to that figure. I will glow for the rest of the time we are here.

Och when you’re a big team you just have to have the squad to deal with these things. Having said that I was hoping he’d get a run out in the challenge cup, oh wait….

  18. Just checking the betting for the gowf. 33/1 that the winner will win by 2 shots or less. I think that’s amazing value. They go 6/4 that the winning margin will be 3 shots. What do I know?

As there has been some talk of the Royals on here of late, here is one from Viz Letters:

“So Princes Harry and William are throwing a party to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their mother’s death. I’m glad that they can finally laugh about it, but throwing a party seems a bit harsh.”

I believe that team pic is from the Feynoord tournament. We also played a few games in the USA that summer too.

Anyway if you are as ‘thick as a bottle of chips’ God help the rest of us. Well done on your measured replies, for me some of them are just not worth bothering about. Too many good Celtic people on here to let them win.
