Five years ago when CQN’er Kano was confined to hospital with a debilitating illness Pablophanque was first to issue the call, “We need to raise the money to bring Kano home”. In the weeks which followed the Bring Martin Home campaign launched. The campaign succeeded and then some; the Kano Foundation is its lasting legacy.
While working in Holland in May 2011 Pablophanque took ill suddenly and died a few days later, leaving two young-adult children to deal with matters a long way from home. As the news filtered through of his death, the call went out in the comments section here to raise money to bring his remains home. One day later Pablo’s son was told the money was there and to confirm arrangements.
Pablo’s estate has recently been settled and his son and daughter wanted to repay the generosity shown to them when they needed it most. Mary’s Meals are now in receipt of £4500 from them towards our CQteN Malawi School Kitchen Appeal. It is an enormous gesture by two young people and shows the level of appreciation they have to those who helped them in 2011.
Raising money is hard and I remember telling Pablo his idea was ambitious, to say the least. There has never been a spontaneous movement like Bring Martin Home and the Kano Foundation. Many of those who made the call for Pablo were inspired by Bring Martin Home. The cumulative impact of this generosity is quite stunning.
My thanks to Pablo’s son, daughter and brother for this fantastic support, inspired, as it was, by the wider Celtic community. I never use the ‘Greatest fans in the world’ line, largely as I don’t think there is much competition, but the Celtic support are among the finest human beings you could hope to meet.
Thanks also to everyone who booked a seat or table for the CQteN St Patrick’s Day Party at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 14 March, where we hoped to raise the bulk of the money for the school kitchen. If you want know what it’s all about, read Friday’s article.

There is no way we can ‘forget about Europe’ whilst we’re stuck in the SPFL. We need the money that we earn from Europe just to exist. That is of course assuming you want us to continue to dominate domestically. Take away our European income and all bets are off.

CelticTom, I know you mean well but you’re advocating splitting the pot we get from the CL to strengthen the teams we need to beat to get to that pot in the first place.
A flawed strategy, a bit like arming insurgents in foreign lands then later having to go over and fight them. We know how well that works out.
The only escape is the only recognised UEFA ruling which allows a professional club in a country where more than half the top flight’s teams are part-time (or something like that) to apply for pastures new in another neighbouring country’s all-pro league. Which involves the opposite strategy to yours and letting clubs die out.
Not one many would be comfortable with. Personally, after the pandering to the Resurrected Ragamuffins the only club sin Scotland I would feel uneasy about condemning would be Aberdeen, Dundee United and Hibs. Everyone else can bite the karma.
The alternative clean-conscience approach would be to ally with top sides with a similar predicament across Europe’s smaller leagues. Something it is continually reported that we are striving towards.

The points I was making….with reference to the points you were making….. is that in a world where you get what you pay for we cannot acquire or pay enough at the moment for the calibre of player we demand to satisfy our aspirations as CFC supporters.
This is because……..
1. We operate in a country that is too small in all commercial aspects
2. We have no legal control of immigration as a country
3. Reducing ticket prices and salaries will not improve the product
4. Young men of the right ability may love the game but pro football is played for money
5. The money offered is not worker wages but much more
6. No one is questioning your supporter credentials
7. Our current problems lie with current PLC policy…it needs adjusting
Putting a cheaper team on the field with half of the stadium in mothballs will achieve what exactly? Other than the slide to mid table mediocrity in an already mediocre league.
Its all about the money and how you use it………thats where the reference to policy kicks in?

If anyone offers their own opinion, I will agree or disagree. Same as everyone, I think.
If, and I think this is what is causing the confusion in our exchange, someone lifts directly from the MSSM and posts it on here as though it should be given consideration as a fact, then I believe those posts are harmful to Celtic and helpful to the MSSM.
Because of that, I am often critical of negative posts even when they are accurate.
In your case , we disagree about the falling crowds. You say they are falling rapidly (huns` bank account) and I say they are not.
I am rambling. To the crux of the matter (at last!!). You (and many others, of course) believe it is OK to be negative about Celtic on here and I believe that CQN was set up to counter the negativity of the MSSM so we don`t need negative posts.

Spanish news is reporting that 7 spanish clubs are to be sanctioned by Brussels for receiving public money. They could be ordered to repay all the financial aid considered ‘illegal’.
Real Madrid, Barça plus Athletic de Bilbao, Osasuna, Valencia, Elche y Hércules ar ethe clubs involved.
No mention is made of clubs outside of Spain but the story appears to have broken v recently.
Players , managers, coaches and directors can be replaced, supporters can’t be!
