Suker, Uefa and regionalisation

935

Croatian hero of the 1990s, Davor Suker, currently Croatian Football Federation president, is campaigning for a place on the Uefa Executive Committee, one of 12 people chasing 7 places.

Sukor has been campaigning across south-eastern Europe, with a simple message: collapse the cream from the national leagues of 13 countries into one powerful 42-team regional league structure.  He has support across the region, including Turkey and the former Yugoslav countries.

Smaller countries across Europe have realised that they must regionalise or accept a future of irrelevance.  The Gazprom-funded deal between the Ukrainian and Russian regional league floundered at the onset or war but regionalisation is not going away.  We need innovative campaigners like Suker to rise to positions of authority, replace the ranks of the incompetent and talentless.

Well done to newco for rewarding those who used their media outlets to campaign relentlessly on their behalf in recent years with a seat in the directors’ box on Tuesday.  I’m sure David Leggat deserved the accolade of being the only mainstream media journo so honoured, which is quite something.  New season lamb is in stock early this year.

Every Champions league night is chocablock with ‘kick racism out of football’ adverts, and all the top names, Messi, Ronaldo etc fronting it. Uefa are on a mission.

Yet the STV cannot bring themselves to report the case of a club director indulging in potentially explosive tweets (especially in the wake of Charlie Hebdo).

Not wanting to shine a light on another Scotland shame?

Mind you, the same STV were more than happy to whip up a Tonev storm.

  2. If Shifty gets a guilty he will miss the next Scottish Cup game – which is the replay, and the next League game.

He was already banned from Sunday’s final for 2 yellow cards

Not sure if people have missed this but Stefan Johansen was booked on Sunday and he will miss the replay as well,

Agree. Custodial 4 months for singing is stupid. banning order and community payback maybe. Criminalising young men is not the answer. The English guy was in court on a racism charge for calling a polis ‘Jock’. FFS. Reality checks needed.

  6. Good news indeed about VVD.

Although I have to be totally honest I wasn’t in any doubt that would be the outcome….even though it is the SFA. They simply couldn’t have upheld the ban and left the Butcher guy with no case to answer because of a procedural issue.

Now concern is about Biton. The guy has been outstanding in the last 2 months. Gone from squad player to one of the first names on be teamsheet. When you take him out you have 2 effects – 1) you lose the simple ball retention and calmness in possession and 2) Johansson drops back to a plae where he is undoubtedly less effective.

    Need Biton fit!!!

I’m going out on a limb here and gonna say that this guy didn’t ‘just sing a song’ and I’ll add in that it probably won’t be his first offence.

A number of years ago, at a lap of of honour at Celtic Park, a teenage girl ran out of the Jock Stein Stand, with the apparent intention of giving Neil Lennon, then a pllayer her scarf. A constable moved in to apprehend her, as he did so the match commander waved him away and sent the girl back to her seat.

Since Dave King became King he suspended Derak Llambias and Barry Leach and announced a probe into their dealings at the top of the ol stairs. Another probe was announced into the affairs of football Chairman, Sandy Easdale following his resignation. Today there are various calls for a probe into the activities of new director Chris Graham.

Now I don’t know much about ol’ Ayebroke, but I do know this…

A Rangers fan who was arrested for sectarian singing while on his way to attend a game against Celtic has been jailed for four months.

Scott Lamont, from Glasgow, was heard singing the words of the Billy Boys song on Cathcart Road on 1 February.

TBH, and with tin hat on, does this really deserve a custodial sentence?

I know it’s a stupid little hun but a suspended one would be fairer.

Re The guy jailed for singing the BB.

My first reaction was that it was likely to have been much more than a casual rendering of a banned song.Would he really have been incarcerated for four months for simply singing the song?

Others on here obviously think otherwise. I find it interesting how different people respond to the same event.
