Taxpayers do not sponsor lazy gossips

I know what you were thinking; Zenden, like Ljungberg, but older.  We need experience in the squad but with Commons, Ledley, Samaras and McCourt all able to stake a claim for the left midfield position this is the last place we need to bring in a 35-year-old.  Best of luck to the player but I’m pleased he has left Glasgow.

Today’s Sun report that a senior policeman witnessed a crime being committed but instead of doing what he is paid to do, he reported the incident to Uefa.  You have to wonder about the veracity of the crime.  The officer will do well to explain his actions if they amount to anything more than a few lines in a newspaper.

We are all partisan in this city but Justice is blind to such emotions and taxpayers (that’s you and me) do not sponsor lazy gossips.

just as we always suspected the new laws are being formed to get us and only us,but until they become law the fuzz will no doubt try to tar us with the same brush as our neanderthal cousins from govan, just when did the IRA become a sectarian organiastion they are open to anyone with the same beliefs

All I can see are quotes from the police?

  4. Joe Fillipi – i dont need to stay in this country. We have progressed in the past but arent you paying attention? They are about to outlaw us – they are about to stop us speaking our mind and pass a law which where we dont know what is illegal because its entirely up to the police to decide what is offensive and therefore illegal.

We are going backwards in an Orwellesque manner.

Its incredible – the SNP have the media, the police and are desperately trying to destroy the legal profession to cow them.

    Their first target is us

They didnt continue with Labour’s initiative to stop sectarian singing and mysteriously got involved in a game of football and have created a law that on the surface wasnt needed. But to those who want to criminalise catholics and celtic supporters you needed some excuse. We had McAskill praising the huns open sectarianism at the League Cup final (he has refused to comment on that) – as did the deputy chief constable). We had our National Broadcaster decide to widen the definition of sectarianism at the Scottish Cup final – they never apologised. We had the leader of the justice committee openly tell us that the law is to “even things up”. She is now accussed of anti catholicism and McAskill has casually dismissed this. We have been told that making the sign of the cross can be deemed illegal – with the police to decide when.

First direct response from Celtic. Looks like a cack-handed stitch-up job. Hopefully UEFA see through it…

CELTIC fans are at the centre of a UEFA investigation after police raised concerns over “offensive” songs during a Europa League game against Rennes.

Celtic have been asked by European football’s governing body to give their side of events during the 3-1 victory over the French club at Parkhead on November 3.

It is understood that Strathclyde Police made the UEFA delegate aware of “offensive” singing during the encounter.

A spokesman for the force said: “We can confirm there were a number of instances during the game of singing offensive songs and inquiries are ongoing to detect the offenders.”

Celtic today confirmed they had been asked by UEFA to provide a response to the allegations.

A club spokesman said: “We are currently looking into these claims.”

The club are understood to have been taken by surprise by the UEFA action, having had no direct feedback from the police.

A Celtic Park source said: “This is quite unprecedented as no issues were raised to the club during the match and the police didn’t inform us directly about their concerns.”

UEFA did not respond to phonecalls today but reports in the Scottish Sun claimed they would hold a hearing on December 8.

It is unclear what charge Celtic could face although it is believed that the allegations centre on songs about the IRA.

Celtic last month urged fans to stop singing pro-IRA chants after being “inundated” with complaints from their own supporters following their 2-0 defeat by Hearts at Tynecastle.

Lothian and Borders Police announced they had launched an investigation into the “singing of sectarian songs” following the Clydesdale Bank Premier League game on October 2.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell said: “Chants glorifying the Provisional IRA are totally unacceptable.

“One, it is wrong, and it is an embarrassment to the club and embarrassment to the majority of supporters.

“We have dealt with it at Celtic Park and we will do all we can to make sure it doesn’t happen home or away.

“We don’t want it, we don’t need it.

“We have the best supporters in the world and hold that reputation dear.”

Possible UEFA sanctions include a fine and ban on supporters.

Rangers fans were banned from travelling to their next away game in Europe and the club were fined more than £70,000 after being found guilty of two counts of “discriminatory behaviour” on the part of their supporters in April, following Europa League games against PSV Eindhoven.

Rangers were also warned they faced playing a home game behind closed doors if found guilty of the same offence within three years.

The Ibrox club had received fines following similar incidents in matches against Villarreal and Osasuna in recent years.

  19. Unfortunately todays FAC meeting was badly disrupted by the white trash of the local ludge

Bad choice of venue, wrong area venue choice not helped with local scare stories of an IRA republican meeting doing the rounds.

First speaker was Kevin Rooney a poor choice IMO

Very disappointed in a sizeable number who walked out, the white trash who set out to disrupt today got an easy win

I was in Glasgow Sheriff court (the accused, obviously) this morning and two wee guys had ‘just can’t get enough’ as the ring tone on their phones, phoning each other constantly so it persistently rang out across the halls. All courts adjourned at 10.55 and emptied into the halls, to reconvene at 11.05 after the 2 minutes silence at 11am.

The big polis watching the two boy was absolutely beelin’, and they were watching him, sniggering and laughing. He was getting redder and redder in the face, clearly more and more irate. He made his way over just in time for 11am and as soon as the minute’s silence started he was to pounce. He was a coiled spring.

At 11am a loud siren sounded, I think they used the fire alarm. Unprompted, the boys immediately stopped their phones and sat in complete silence, as did everyone else, people from all walks of life.

Perfectly observed, apart from the big polis who fidgeted in confusion and anger at a missed opportunity. If only he’d concentrated on paying his respects.

No arrest(s), so apparently no unlawful behaviour.

To be deemed offensive at a football match is not even unlawful in this country (yet)

So why is it deemed worthy of reporting to EUFA.

It will get nowhere with EUFA.

I cannot see the logic of what it is trying to achieve,
