Taxpayers do not sponsor lazy gossips

I know what you were thinking; Zenden, like Ljungberg, but older.  We need experience in the squad but with Commons, Ledley, Samaras and McCourt all able to stake a claim for the left midfield position this is the last place we need to bring in a 35-year-old.  Best of luck to the player but I’m pleased he has left Glasgow.

Today’s Sun report that a senior policeman witnessed a crime being committed but instead of doing what he is paid to do, he reported the incident to Uefa.  You have to wonder about the veracity of the crime.  The officer will do well to explain his actions if they amount to anything more than a few lines in a newspaper.

We are all partisan in this city but Justice is blind to such emotions and taxpayers (that’s you and me) do not sponsor lazy gossips.

Where have the club disappeared to when all this is going on , our support and indeed our club is being attacked from all sides and yet the sound of silence from Celtic Park is deafening.

We need to circle the wagons and get ready for our last stand , for if we do nothing now then the vultures will be picking over the carcass of all we believe in.

It’s time to unite as one and defend our rights .

  2. Interesting debate on living in Scotland. I left for economical reasons 10 years ago. And maybe you have to experience life in another country to get a true perspective. But having my son walk home from school with a Celtic top and LARSSON 7 on the back of it without worrying about his welfare..that seals the deal for me. Not going back…and if you asked my wife and kids you would get the same answer. Great to go back and visit the family. But better to come back to America…

So lawwell has decided the singing of freedom songs is wrong, absolute SCUM, rear baring SCUM, time to clear the board of masons.

It’s about throwing mud. Classic Media House. Muddy the waters, create the impression that we are “under investigation by UEFA” (when it would appear that we are not – yet).

The whole defence of the Huns all these years has been “one’s as bad as the other”. This “story” is perfect for the media to run with, it’s very easy to create the impression of wrongdoing.

As I say, classic, classic, dirty tactics. Surprised the police have been daft enough to let themselves be used – I suspect they will have a few questions to answer when UEFA throw this out…

‘gloryfying the IRA’ are entirely words of your choosing.

I’ll ask again, which songs DO YOU refer to as ‘gloryfying the IRA’

  20. In all of Rangers previous appearances at UEFA, the ibroke club have enjoyed full support from the authorities in Scotland

They have never been reported by the Scottish Police to UEFA, indeed no Scottish club has been reported to UEFA by the Police

Rangers have had written submissions to UEFA on their behalf from the Scottish Government, the SFA, Jim Murphy when he was Scottish Secretary at Westminster, David Will vice president at UEFA campaigned on their behalf, even Glasgow city council which is supposedly full o kafflicks wrote to UEFA supporting Rangers

The cries of condemnation are going to become deafening we can expect that.

We know what to expect in the next 3 years, so everyone prepare themselves.

I would be fairly confident with an exoneration however, if its the Celtic board who are our alleged defenders then I am extremely, extremely worried.

You see I dont think they have the balls to put a defence together. Sure, they will quote french police, previous governors, mayors, fifa etc statements from recent years to talk us up – but they wont offer a defence to the BOTOB for example.

I would love to think they would print the entire words of the song in one paragraph, then print Irelands, Englands and Scotlands national anthems and ask them to differentiate which one differs from the rest.

    But they wont.

I would also love to think Celtic would call on the services of someone like Tom Devine and ask him to write the defence on their behalf, so that they themselves are not publicly seen to defend what others view as ‘terrorism’.

We could take the view that this is an opportunity and one to grasp with both hands, because it is.

If UEFA investivate these so called offensive songs and exonerate us – then we can ram it down every bigot in Scotlands throat and force them to see the actual problem is their own – not ours.

  22. From Scotsman.com

CELTIC fans are at the centre of a UEFA investigation after police raised concerns over “offensive” songs during a Europa League game against Rennes.

Celtic have been asked by European football’s governing body to give their side of events during the 3-1 victory over the French club at Parkhead on November 3.

It is understood that Strathclyde Police made the UEFA delegate aware of “offensive” singing during the encounter.

A spokesman for the force said: “We can confirm there were a number of instances during the game of singing offensive songs and inquiries are ongoing to detect the offenders.”

Celtic today confirmed they had been asked by UEFA to provide a response to the allegations.

A club spokesman said: “We are currently looking into these claims.

The club are understood to have been taken by surprise by the UEFA action, having had no direct feedback from the police.

A Celtic Park source said: “This is quite unprecedented as no issues were raised to the club during the match and the police didn’t inform us directly about their concerns.

UEFA did not respond to phonecalls today but reports in the Scottish Sun claimed they would hold a hearing on December 8.

    ——–

So Celtic didn’t actually confirm anything of the sort and neither have Uefa.

    The Scum can gtf.

Kelvin McKenzie, Piers Morgan, Bill Leckie, etc a rolecall of dishonourable liars.

    Die.

    Already.

  23. As the weather is usually so miserable in Scotland, I do not see the problem in the Celtic support invoking the intervention of the great sun god, Ra.

The singing of ‘ooh ah up the Ra’ was quite common in ancient Egypt as crowds gathered outside the pyramids at Giza.

It’s unbelievable that the worship of Ra is now to be criminalised and is an affront to all those wishing for better weather during matches.

I am therefore thinking of leaving the country.

    :-)

  24. I’d have had Zenden – all day every day – for the experience – his experience – even in the dressing room/training ground – lots of our players are young men – simple fact – Zenden would not have been a Ljungberg type signing – maybe killing off a game – possibly a great calm headed partner for Wanyama (who is passing like a seasoned campaigner himself and looks like a 4th season Celtic player) – the official site says he was not offered a ‘permanent’ contract.

Ah well – I’d have like to have seen at least 3 defenders in at the same time as Bolo getting the once over.

And yes Bolo has always been a preferred player of mine – so a dream unrealised for me yes – but he’d have been worth the short term cash.

    In my simple, humble opinion.

  25. Who is offended by songs which are a mark of respect to Irish republicans? Is it British people, unionists, protestants? If that is the arguement being given by the polis to Uefa, then just show them a video of HRH Elizabeth II laying a wreath as a mark of respect to the people who gave their lives for Irish republicanism during her recent visit to Ireland.

  26. James Forrest is Lennon on

After careful consideration, following a day when I’ve not felt particularly good about continuing to live in Scotland, you know what? This is MY country more than it belongs to bigots and halfwits. Watching cardboard patriotism all week in the form of the poppy debate has made me cynical and pissed off, and hearing today about the cop who would rather do UEFA’s job than his own has reminded me we live in a sectarian state … but that gives me two choices; to fight the prevailing political and social climate or to pack my bags, because I’m not cut out for living in silence and unless things change some of my views are going to be criminalised before very long, and I won’t be able to keep them quiet no matter what the consequences are likely to be.

So, before it’s outlawed, let me lay some cards on the table.

I am a Scot and an Irish Republican. I don’t believe there’s a distinction between singing about those who fought in the Irish Wars of Independance and those who fought in the Scottish ones. If some SNP wannabe wants to change the law to criminalise me then he better watch out because I’m taking my video camera to their next party conference and forwarding what I record to the PF.

To those amongst the Celtic support who claim to be embarrased by either those who wear the poppy or those who’s flower of choice is the Easter Lilly, I suggest they find a different football club to follow because the Celtic I support is no more Irish than it is Scottish and no more a house of the left than it is a palace for the right. We are a Family where every shade and colour is represented, where all views are welcome except those which defile or defame another for his race, colour, creed, sexuality or religion. Please note that I make no mention of a man’s politics, because they are his own and if you believe in something not only should you be able to defend in but you should understand why.

Irish Republican songs are not illegal and they are not sectarian. The argument that singing about the IRA is illegal because they are a proscribed organisation cuts no slack at all. At one time our government said the same about the American patriots fighting for independance, about the Indian patriots under Gandhi who used passive resistance and other governments have labelled the same accusations at the National Party of Taiwan; the Palestinian Liberation Organisation and the African National Congress. If “Ooh ah up the ‘Ra” is to be criminalised, so to is “No Surrender to the IRA”. If the Boys of the Old Brigade is made illegal then I look forward to hundreds of arrests when next we hear Flower of Scotland and I wonder how many SNP MSP’s will be in the cells this time?

I welcome UEFA’s investigation into Celtic fans singing “sectarian songs”, instigated by a police officer who, if he’s telling the truth should be sacked for not following his brief and making arrests. Or is it common practice for the police to blatantly allow illegal behaviour and passing the buck to someone else to tackle it? We either have very lazy coppers or very bitter ones … maybe a bit of both. I welcome the investigation because when it returns a verdict of Not Guilty then it’s off to the courts for the next round and a similar verdict there.

Which brings us nicely to the word “hun”. A word which has been used to describe the supporters of Hearts, of Airdrie, of Motherwell … and of Celtic, believe it or not, before some Rangers fans took offence and decided to play tit-tor-tat as a result of their celebrations of murdering Catholics being declared criminal. The word “hun” can be traced throughout history, as applying to those who’s behaviour is particularly destructive, either in a physical, literal sense or in a sociological sense. One only had to see the Battle of Manchester for an example of the former, and listen to the bigotry and bile of their songs to see the latter.

It is not a catch-all for every Rangers fan, merely those who wallow in the bigoted cesspool into which much of Scotland is sinking. It is certainly not a catch-all for those of a Protestent persuation; Lorenzo Amoruso – Catholic and a Hun. Maurice Judas – Catholic and a Hun. Adolf Hitler – Catholic and a Hun. Osama Bin Laden – Islamic Fundamentalist and Hun.

Nor is it a catch-all for any player who played in Rangers colours. Any number of Rangers players have risen above the accolade, including Brian Laudrup, Giovanni Van Bronckhurst, Artur Numan, Marco Negri and even the occasional Scot like Stephen Pressley. I have no idea of Alan Hutton is a Hun, but Charlie Adam comes from a family with a strong Hun mentality.

I never considered Ray Wilkins a Hun, and I believe Gascgoine to be the epitome of one. Alex Ferguson is certainly not one, whilst Archie Knox, who worked with him at Man Utd, is one of the bitterest bent.

We know who they are, and they know who they are. Everyone who knows anything about the Scottish game knows who they are. Pat Nevin, who never talks about them, knows who they are. Graham Speirs, who talks about them all the time, knows them and they hate him for it.

The Scottish press is full of them. Chick Young is one, and he supports St Mirren. Jim Traynor is certainly one and he supports Airdrie. David Leggat is one, but he supports Vodka and Hugh Keevins is definitely one and he supports Celtic. The SFA is filled to the rafters with them. Campbell Ogilvie was promoted for being a career one. Hugh Dallas was sacked because he was caught being a stupid one.

The word “hun” is not a term of endearment, but a well earned expression of contempt, so it is hardly a wonder many of those who have worn the label, along with it’s sister label – Scotland’s Shame – don’t like it … but this is a cruel world sometimes and they can think on this as tough love.

In the end, as angry and fed up as I feel today, I also feel determined that efforts to criminalise myself and my friends, attempts to drag us down to the gutter level of this nation’s most disgraceful individuals, will not be successful, that we will resist them, that we will overcome and stand tall.

What else is there to do? I’m certainly not packing my bags.

  27. fergus slayed the blues on

Have Celtic been in contact with the police to find out exactly what was sung and the reporting officers views .

As has been stated the police have never reported any other Scottish club for this ,why us and why now (no need to answer )

It truly is amazing however that the whole world could witness the ragers fans bile for 90 mins of a cup final only for them to be publicly praised by the authorities for creating a great atmosphere ,I suppose it all depends what kind of atmosphere you want though .
