Tear down the walls of footballs cartels

534

Former Bolton Wanderers chairman, Phil Gartside, lost his battle with cancer yesterday. During Bolton’s 18 year Premier League tenure, Gartside wanted Celtic and Rangers in the league, as part of a reorganisation which would have seen a second tier Premier League created.

His motivation was the realisation that English football’s model was inherently dysfunctional. Teams like Bolton would over-commit to the player contracts necessary to keep them in the league, but with everyone else doing the same thing, it was only a matter of time before they finished in the bottom three. Less than 3 years since relegation Bolton face a winding-up order this month over a £2.2m debt to HMRC.

‘The Gartside Plan’ for league reorganisation found little support among his Premier League peers. Each passing TV deal poured ever-more money into the Premier League but the model remains dysfunctional. Those relegated regularly face dire consequences – and that’s before the bubble bursts.

As English and Welsh clubs who have dropped out of the Premier League continue to deal with the consequences, Europe’s mega-rich clubs are unhappy with their return from Champions League football. The relative democratisation of Champions League qualification, introduced by Michel Platini, which sees more clubs from smaller countries reach the group stage, is seen as a problem to some of Europe’s richest.

They want games against Manchester United, not Dinamo Zagreb. So do TV companies and sponsors.  The football industry in Europe operates a series of EU sanctioned cartels.  These sanctioned exceptions were granted on the basis that football is a sport, not a conventional business.  The more top clubs act like businesses, not sporting institutions, the more reason to tear down the walls of these carters.

Talking about banning the Record and the Hun from Celtic Park, some of the posters in here who do they’r work for them should be banned first, that’s if they’ve ever seen the inside of Celtic Park,,

I’m noticing the predictable slagging of Mr Pastrys post starting, yet no proof to back up they’r disagreement, as I said, predictable opinions, but no valid argument .

As I’v said before, the SMSM, and Huns I don’t bother my arse with, right now it’s the (so called) fans that I’v got an eye on, the agenda blitz on CFC by (so called) Celtic fans is all about getting a supporter on the board, nothing more, nothing less, the splinter are loving what the SMSM are doing to CFC , and don’t try the old spin about the SMSM not being attacked by the CFC board, the SMSM have been doing this for as long as I can remember and will continue, but I’v NEVER, and I mean NEVER, in all my days as a supporter (60 years) seen a Celtic manager who has been top of the league, won the league and a cup the season before, being under so much hatered and bile in all my life, it’s disgusting, and puts all of us in a bad light, and there is no need for it, not what they are putting this man through, the SMSM done the same with Lenny, IMO, the supporters, and groups, and some blogs related to CFC, are no better than them for what they are doing to RD.

Strange that the boardloving bruiser latches on to MR PASTRY and his utterings. Is it because his grasp of figures suggests that he didnae go to uni?

Or that by pulling figures out of the air to support his argument-a selective one,at that-that he is emulating his idol and bestie,PL?

Its Mr Pastry and TD67 with a reasoned argument.

Only they dont answer questions on it…..no debate.

    So….Mr TD67…I will ask again.

Why is the board SILENT about the media attacks….WHY?

    Stop Hiding.

  7. Must say I enjoyed the few posts sparked off by Celt55 last night when he posed the question of the original lyrics of The Foggy Dew. The subject of Ballads who wrote them originally, why they were written and changes that have come into the texts over the years is a major interest of mine.

To me Ballads are sacred, particularly those relating to our history. The Egyptians wrote their history in stone the Irish in song.

I can understand how some of the more recent ballads relating to fairly recent troubles might cause people of opposing views offence and I can also understand how these offended people may not be able to differentiate between ballads of different eras.

However ignorance & stupidity is their problem not ours.

I know there are some on here who would prefer if no Irish Ballads were sung at Celtic events & games but to me it is the living proof of Bobby Sands words ” Our revenge will be the laughter of our Children”.

I know Celtic is a broad Church open to all and so it should be but the reality is that when most posters here talk about their grandparents or great grandparents it is patently obvious that they are direct descendants of The Famine.

To me it is a source of joy & wonder that neither time, location or laws can destroy what is in your spiritual DNA.

There is no free press in the UK it’s worse than anything that ever existed in Russia, China or North Korea.

You only need to look at the free press on tinterweb to counter their propaganda, we need a strong rangers is the same as we need corrupt banks.

My point was, that the Club have no recourse. I understand that the press have their own agenda.

Celtic Football Club cannot change what the Daily Record publish unless it’s considered libel. These newspapers have solicitors to ensure what they print isn’t leaving them open.

Yes agreed, but do you honestly see any improvement in our team this season? I’m not for sacking Ronny or changing horses in mid-stream but there is something seriously wrong within the management/team structure. I don’t know what it is but if Ronny wants to succeed he needs to look at this.

    _______

I agree that the lack of progress in Europe is disappointing. A review needs to be done at the end of the season to judge where we are.

I don’t think our problems are unsolvable under Ronny, but he needs to show a willingness to improve on the defensive side of the game. A new coach to help John Kennedy perhaps?

  15. TIMALOY29

We could ban them from Celtic Park.

No advertising, no press conferences for them, in fact f*ck all for them and the board could ask Celtic supporters to boycott the papers.

That would impact on their advertising revenue, circulation with inevitable consequences.

    AND

They would have brought it on themselves.

That was with their previous manager…

    _______

That’s true. But you can’t ignore the progress made under the previous manager to get them where they are now.

Ranieri deserves praise because he had watched Leicesters games at the end of last season and was so impressed that he didn’t want to change things too quickly

“When speaking to the players, I realised they were afraid of Italian tactical approaches. They didn’t seem convinced and neither was I. So I told the players that I trusted them and would speak very little of tactics. It was important to me that they all ran hard, just as I’d seen them running towards the end of last season.”

  17. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Timaloy29,

Companies that advertise with the rags have a lot more power than ever, you just need to look at what happened to Speirs and Haggerty to understand that, there are always ways to influence their output.

Two that immediately spring to mind are, stop giving them advertising and stop giving them access to the club and it’s players, in fact three, make a statement before and after every game asking the supporters to stop buying their rags.

All three together would have an impact that would make them think twice about what they publish.

  18. TonyD @11.05

Agree with you 100% My problem is the ever so humble Uriah Lawlwell, why the silence? We are being ripped apart, the old divide and conquer strategy by all and it makes my blood boil to see so called Celtic fans do like wise.
