Speaking at the weekend, Kenny McDowell looked ahead to the cup semi-final saying “We aren’t going into the game fearing a big defeat. If anything we are going into the game knowing we’ll have to be on our guard and wary of that, but we are not going into it fearing of losing by a big score-line”.
Admitting that he’s wary about the prospect of a big defeat is the last thing you want your manager to say publicly as you prepare for a cup tie. It conditions everyone to the prospect of defeat.
From Ronny, it’s all positive: “It’s going to be fun.
“It’s good that this is a big game, so we won’t be underestimating the opponent.
“We are in a good position, we can win everything and that motivates.”
Big games, big results, are often won in the head before a team takes to the field. You win because you know you’re going to win, because you know you can rely on your team-mates. You know that if you do your job correctly, there is nothing the opposition can do, short of elbowing you in the face and hope you retaliate.
No game of football is easy and Ronny and the players will know they will have to work for anything they get on Sunday, but the preparatory work has been done. The players are fit, rested and can’t wait for Sunday.
On a side note, I can’t believe how thoroughly the New Club advert has penetrated media coverage this week. On top of Motivator McDowell, can you imagine ‘ex-players’, pundits and fans having to explain their existence and relevance in the run up to a semi-final? This wasn’t a crowd-source advert, it was crowd-sourced media management, which ran rings around the best paid PRs in the business.
Let me know (celticquicknews@gmail.com) if you want a ticket to CQN 11 St Patrick’s Dinner at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13 March – Cup Final weekend, as it happens, or you can buy a ticket at the bottom of this page. I’m in the mood now.

Afternoon all
I was just about to comment on the verbosity of James Forrest but not even finishing my greeting was a touch on the non verbose site
I did not like James’ articles as much as others here and elsewhere clearly have. it is too long and repeats itself.
Whilst I am interested and concerned by hoe Rangers fans of a certain type react but whatever the result some will be intent on mayhem.
I could not care about how Rangers players feel after the game if we beat them. At least half their team is unknown to me and those
I do know are small fry to the kind of villains they have had in the past.
SoT,
Many moons ago I had the opportunity to play football in Malta (which I turned down…silly boy)
At that time Stanley was still playing there and, with a bit of luck,I could have played against him.
One of my many “close but no cigar” moments but no regrets,it all worked out great for me,but what a moment that could have been
Cowiebhoy. Thoughts & prayers with you & your family at this time, May your uncle James rest in peace
I want Celtic to win and win well. I want people to be saying how good we are looking, how professional we are. I want us to be good and our playerd to realise that thrre are bigger tests ahead
Apologies but some tech probs this end

I reckon I’d struggle to raise a smile or anything else so soon after a bottle of malt.
I’ll stick to the black stuff. Works for me,I can figure out when I need to go home when I’m on that.
On whisky,I just try to figure out how many ‘sickies’ I can get away with…

Ye canny jist throw that in the ring then walk away………….
The front page Herald article with the headline “RFC Born 1872, Died 2012” remains in situ on a wall in a corridor at Glasgow Caledonian University. One FFin’ Hun has almost written to complain about it:
“Disgusting that a university allows a sign wrongly claiming rangers fc are dead i demand you act responsibly as a place of education and not a place of nasty political football, religious based sectarian, offensive posters or images to be portrayed on poster boards by bigoted minded people! I expect this to be taken down and appropriate action to be taken to ensure no colours of any attatchments that cause offence prejudicial religious or otherwise be allowed on such boards! What an embarressment to the university.
As you said its been up since 2012 time to take it down and to suggest this as educational then perhaps you can give a breakdown as to what this serves in that area? Why it has been up for two years or more? Why there is nothing about other clubs like hearts for example? Have you any intentions of taking this down or do you have an interior motive for leaving this not only offensive but misleading and most definately inaccurate wrongful headline? Industry changes constant why would the university continue to use wrongful information left on a message board since 2012?
I will take it to the next step because you have evaded the questions about your answer claiming its used for educational purposes which is why your allowing this offensive item to remain and lets be truthful no lecturer is going to hold a lesson in front of a message board therefore this calls in to question your motive? Its a shame that you appear to have an inner prejudice towards students or else you would have this removed? Given the way Glasgow is regarding football, religion , bigotry and sectarianism dont you think the University is being irresponsible supporting the use of material that is not factual? Has the subject material been used for lessons within the teaching areas or do classes get taught in front of message boards?”

until he realised he couldnt write
I hope I’m wrong but am thinking that our game against them this weekend will be more like the ones we’ve had against Ross County recently than the ones they’ve had against say Hearts or Hibs.
I think they believed they could do something against either or both of those two, or were at least forced into giving the impression that they believed they could to avoid furious zombie action, and simply got found out for not being as good as either. When they’ve played more realistically within their limited abilities, like against Inverness Caley, they’ve done much better.
Can they swallow their pride and play 6-4-0 against us like they do with other clubs that they know are better than them? Or will their pride and the risk of their zombie backlash even if they do and we still beat them provoke them into coming out and actually trying to match and even play offensively against us?
The former, in my opinion, would lead to a close score line but victory for the hoops and them having relinquished any last deluded vestige they have in pride of their team. The latter? I prefer that scenario actually, under those circumstances I believe we would take a right few off them.
Either way, just a win will be fine. Then try to stomach the plaudits that will spout forth from everyone in the SMSM and anyone who has a voice in football, regarding how well the the plucky underdogs did.
It’s here and so I’ll have to watch it, in the same way as I’d be drawn to watching a slow motion train crash on the telly, but I honestly hope I don’t have to again.
