The language of defeat, crowd-sourced media management

1075

Speaking at the weekend, Kenny McDowell looked ahead to the cup semi-final saying “We aren’t going into the game fearing a big defeat.  If anything we are going into the game knowing we’ll have to be on our guard and wary of that, but we are not going into it fearing of losing by a big score-line”.

Admitting that he’s wary about the prospect of a big defeat is the last thing you want your manager to say publicly as you prepare for a cup tie.  It conditions everyone to the prospect of defeat.

From Ronny, it’s all positive: “It’s going to be fun.

“It’s good that this is a big game, so we won’t be underestimating the opponent.

“We are in a good position, we can win everything and that motivates.”

Big games, big results, are often won in the head before a team takes to the field.  You win because you know you’re going to win, because you know you can rely on your team-mates.  You know that if you do your job correctly, there is nothing the opposition can do, short of elbowing you in the face and hope you retaliate.

No game of football is easy and Ronny and the players will know they will have to work for anything they get on Sunday, but the preparatory work has been done.  The players are fit, rested and can’t wait for Sunday.

On a side note, I can’t believe how thoroughly the New Club advert has penetrated media coverage this week.  On top of Motivator McDowell, can you imagine ‘ex-players’, pundits and fans having to explain their existence and relevance in the run up to a semi-final?  This wasn’t a crowd-source advert, it was crowd-sourced media management, which ran rings around the best paid PRs in the business.

Let me know (celticquicknews@gmail.com) if you want a ticket to CQN 11 St Patrick’s Dinner at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13 March – Cup Final weekend, as it happens, or you can buy a ticket at the bottom of this page.  I’m in the mood now.

San Diego Bhoy, at least you get to say that in the sunshine. I’m freezing ma nadsack off telling hun associates that here in the frozen wasteland of north Britain.

My boy is coming up the road so we can watch the pumpfest together, I’m fair looking forward to seeing him. Not so much the game, but at least I know he’ll be with me on Saturday night and not out there with the mad wans like Sipsini and his hun workmates.

Thats your sentiments mate, and I’m sure theres a few who will share them. However, there’s those of us who, whilst denying their existence as the former club ,will be looking forward to pumping them “royally” on Sunday. I’m sure you’ll still take some sort of gratification on Sunday night. Enjoy the Superbowl

I went for an eye test today. Everything was cool banana’s on the eye front but the optician dude was a bit of weirdo. He spent the entire time talking about camels. The only camels I’m familiar with are the smoking variety.

HTF does an optician in Carnoustie become a world authority in camels?

It is a big ask I know, but looking for 3 tickets for the Dundee game, it’s not essential but it will be the wee mans first away game with the fanatics, I thought that was as good an away game as any as I won’t see him the following weekend because of the mad party people in Belfast.

  19. Historically home to the Kumeyaay people, San Diego was the first site visited by Europeans on what is now the West Coast of the United States. Upon landing in San Diego Bay in 1542, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo claimed the entire area for Spain, forming the basis for the settlement of Alta California 200 years later. The Presidio and Mission of San Diego, founded in 1769, formed the first European settlement in what is now California. In 1821, San Diego became part of newly independent Mexico, and in 1850, became part of the United States following the Mexican-American War and the admission of California to the union.

Did I ever tell you aboot the time we returned from Pittodrie and stopped off at oor usual place in Coupar angus?

The bar used to close at around 4 o’clock on a Sunday(I think it was to get us oot and on our way) well, we just kept turning the hands on the clock back half an ‘oor every 20 mins or so – The barman became a wee bit suspicious when it got dark outside.

Another time, we hoisted a JP2 Tricolour on the flagpole outside the pub and a’ the locals gathered and waited on us comin’ oot……was like a scene from young Frankenstein, wi the torches :-)

A new Rangers team with Ashley behind them would be a formidable force, I guess they just really want Rangers Men, Brogues and Aprons.
