The players, the manager and the board

503

Celtic controlled the first half at Easter Road without really troubling Hibernian.  That control shattered when Nir Bitton and, more culpably, Scott Brown, combined to concede an unnecessary foul then penalty.  The subsequent lack of urgency to follow Scott Bain’s save and daydreaming at the second Hibs goal was typical Celtic season 2020-21.

You were not surprised at the outcome.  Before the game I wrote a piece on Newco’s accounts (it is important and I will pick it up during the week) but I knew when I was writing it there was a more than decent chance we would have to address this matter instead.

The players have first responsibility to resolve matters, then the manager, then the board.  Doubtless there have been several iterations of attempted fixes, but none have been effective. It is not too late to rescue our season but it will be soon.

  1. 67HEAVEN .. CHALLENGING THE LIE ..I AM WEE OSCAR…… IPOX BELONGS TO THE CREDITORS

Which new Manager? ..out of interest

  2. I have been saying for weeks, that Lenny is depending on players who let him down on a regular basis. That is down to the ma6nager.Elyanoussi,2 good games out of 6.Frimpong.Just what does he bring to the team.No assists, though plenty of chances, cant really defend, and too small.Ajeti ,we all can see,he cannot play lone striker, but manager insists on doing it.

Midfielders need a break. He insists on playing Christie,Calmac,Broony, even when their form has dipped. This is not the Calmac we know.We have Soro, and Turnbull, not getting a chance, and I am not believing for a minute, they are not up to it.When we have seen the little cameos from Soro,he looks a very capable player.Turnbull,a proven box to box ,goalscoring midfielder. All this is down to Lenny.Being too loyal,is killing him. With Eddy and Griff fit yesterday, why were they not starting.Thats not being too loyal, thats stupidity.

I know many did not agree with me when I said the UEFA games should have been used to get players not getting game time ,a chance to up their fitness.Turnbull,Soro,Elhamed,Ntcham,Klimala,Griff, and be first team ready, giving others a rest.

I think most are of the opinion that Elhamed should be at RB at the moment,to try and shore up the defence.Nope.Baffling decisions.I just have no idea how he cannot see, what everyone else can. Results are proving who is right.

The Huns will not suffer an insolvency event this season. Their board have guaranteed the huge sums required. They plan to get through this season, stop the ten then sell off any players they can to balance the books.

Ignore Hun finances. They are irrelevant. They are running away with the league and currently humiliating Aberdeen.

If Celtic don’t act now the league is over.

  5. I’m repeating myself here ;but our keeper stats are easily the worst of any team in Europe.EVERY SECOND SHOT ON TARGET IS A GOAL. And we waste EVERY set piece taken by Christie. And throw ins- only waste time and possession!! Keepers are both rubbish. Defence is not a defence in any sense. Forward s are strangled by Lennon s 1 forward tactics. Elyahnoussi is rubbish for Celtic. Ncham too. Brown got Lennon sacked yesterday and doesn’t seem to care. Poor frimpong was truly atrocious. It’s very very easy to spot the problems and very very easy to fix them. Except that Lenny does not see either.

  6. Players made individual mistakes yesterday. But a few players did play very well. Even that defender that came on as a sub and played flawless ;-) Make sure your opinion counts for something, by 10pm tonight please CQNPOTY@GMAIL.COM

  7. So Christie wants a “different challenge”.

I expect him to stay at home midweek and be dropped from the first team for his remaining time at the club.

As far as I’m concerned he can gtf.

    And the sooner the better.

  9. We have played poorly before but it’s usually over playing struggling to score unfortunately this season defensively we are all over the place … constant chopping and changing at the back, full backs out of position no midfield cover … it feels as though defensively the team can’t be bothered , free crosses into the box are routine … I can’t remember us being such a defensive shambles at any point and winning the league … we have 5 tanner ba players out of 6 with only Scott now being too slow to lay a glove on anyone …. balance of the team is all wrong for the blood and snorters in spl … seems to me there is plenty of behind the scenes crap going on … unfortunately looks like a few huffs , no one is enjoying it …. I doubt the Board will push Neil just yet .. I suspect we will have a new manager mid Jan

How about him learning how to hit a dead ball?

  11. onenightinlisbon on

Re Christie, he’s working his ticket however now would not appear a good time to be speaking about “new challenges”, what’s next, Eddie, Ntcham, Julien all saying they want “New challenges”….

  12. One night, gave you the benefit earlier, but using everything you can for your agenda. Aberdeen have a depleted squad today.

Hypothetically for the good of Celtic mind, who are you replacing our manager with.

Cause it’s troll like right now. Hours and hours of repitition, no new revelations, just moaning and moaning and moaning. It’s like you’re being paid by the hour, do you get overtime rates on a Sunday? 😂🤣

  13. This season has been one disaster after another with Ferencvaros, Bolingoli, 2 poor performances away in EL play offs, Huns game, Sparta – the fact that Neil Lennon is still our manager trotting out the same excuses and reasons is a complete and utter shambles of football and company management. I thought that at least when we did not win a league championship, we would go down fighting with every last breath we had, instead we are going down with barely a whimper and that is what hurts most.

I’m not saying anything lots of others have said on here, why have a go at me?

    Aberdeen depleted…another excuse…fek off

  15. ERNIE LYNCH

    Indeed!

He is starting to believe his own publicity.

We’ll see how well that goes.

  16. glendalystonsils on

    Challenges is it?

How about rising to the challenge of looking like a Celtic player first!?

  17. Go tell the Spartim on

Is it fair to say that a fair chunk of online supporters have lost faith in the manager ? I know I have but all this angst is for nothing as I have even less faith in a complicit board (only my opinion) to do the right thing, there’s no history of them doing so. We’re run as DD sees fit, our aim isn’t to be the best we can be, not that I can see.

So I’ve given up hope of us reaching the ten, the board sticking up for the club and it’s supporters and for there to be an even playing field in Scottish football.

As Norrie M has alluded too, how many will renew their season book next season, £700 for a season book will be a struggle for many and if many perceive the board to be dawdling along and in in the plan then they’ll have ripped the soul for many.

I’m sure PL and his reported £68000 per week salary couldn’t give a toss whether I renewed or not but if there’s a lot like me who are reconsidering (mainly for financial reasons) then when he leaves in the summer, as I suspect, that’ll be his legacy in my eyes

  18. If the great desmondo is just waiting for the reendorsement of the ‘old firm’ brand then imho it could be a major gamble….if the swing goes to them ie league title and CL money Celtic may end up seriously losing season ticket sales and merchandising from fans who will be genuinely scunnered. Tables will turn in a matter of months…all from a serious position of strength. How embarassing!

  19. Because you’ve repeated it for hours. Are you looking for validation? Seeking to be just right once?

Yes twice aberdeen have played sevco this season with depleted squads. First game zero strikers. This game no ferguson who’s their engine and a pain in the *rse for any team.

  20. Ntcham cant even deal with the challenge here, doubt we will even get what we paid, but all and any who dont want to be here get shot of them, I dont care who they are, NL said this after Ferencvaros some wanted away then retracted it the next day saying they were great guys.

He was toast then the only difference now is the colour of it.

  21. Lambert14,

Only on a Celtic Blog, would your remedy for our present ills,be to sack the board, get any credence.Especially a Board, that has brought 9 titles, very possibly 4 trebles,Brendan Rodgers,,and backed the present manager with money for the 10th.

When I see this stellar list of managers we could have had, this fabled list of star studded managers, just desperate to come to the SPFL,then I will say, yes,we could have done better. There were no,Poccetinos,Mourihnos,Bielsas,Villas Boas,in the queue. If you think there were, fair enough.I know there was not.
