The rascal Neil Lennon

771

What a rascal that Neil Lennon is, laughing off interest in Amido Balde while leading us all down the Kevin Doyle road last week, then Amido pitches up at Celtic Park, complete with obligatory Celtic scarf, before heading for some scans and time plugged -up with on the running machine today.

Amido’s road to Celtic Park has not been straight.  He was released by Sporting Lisbon last year without kicking a ball for them, but he has spent a year in a competitive league playing against some Champions League defences, so Celtic will have a fair idea of what kind of player he is.

Does he have the technique?  Does he have the physique?  Does he have the temperament?   John Park and the scouts will have given Neil Lennon lots of information on these elements of Amido, so there should be no surprises.

This is even more true of Balde than of last season’s twin striking signings, Lassad and Miku (trivia question of the future, Who led the line for Celtic when they beat Barcelona in 2012?).  Both arrived in the final days of the window, with options expiring all around and beggars choosing.

As always, the most important hope for any transfer window is that the manager and scouts get their first choices.  That assured, we’ll do alright.

11 June and first piece of transfer speculation. Held the tide as long as I could.

Last year was my debut at Aberdour. Great course but a daunting start with 2 par 3’s, the first with a plethora of CQN patrons watching and the second over water. Great fun.

west wales celt, it’s “likely” that you may have a point, however your point does not address what I posted.

As I said before, it’s shameful that this move was apposed and I’d like to know if Celtic opposed it.

The Campbell Ogilive pish is a sideshow under which the SFA have now given the green light to every hun extremist to continue their hatred and persecution of our club and support, with the blessing of the majority of clubs.

What kind of message does this send out about Scotland “the smallest retarded and backward wee country in the universe”.

As much as Reagan is a fool who has pandered to the hun, you cant fault him for trying to cleanse this aspect of our game.

How did Celtic vote? I for one would like to know.

Many say that the huns are Scotland’s shame; others think the national apathy to brazen corruption is a strong contender. Darkness does not drive out darkness and evil begets evil; for it to spread it only takes good folk to solace in silent slumber. The light of the darkness, well I thought there would be a blinding beacon by now, but I was disappointed; somehow I think the light of darkness dimmed to a very faint ember the day they laid Paul McBride down.

My take on it was the huns have repeatedly, in deafening chorused crescendo’s serenated their hate to the world and never once taken to task by the SFA. Truth be know they were often lauded for it by police and media too.

This initiative, in my opinion, was an attempt to demonise the Celtic Support and to harm our club every which way it possibly could.

  12. The SFA initiative on sectarianism may have gathered more support and held significantly more credibility if they had completed their investigations into the associate member club supporters behaviours in the relatively recent far less distant past.

Rangers cleared by watchdog over ‘most successful club’ advert

    Wednesday 12 June 2013

An advert for Rangers Football Club (RFC) has been cleared following 78 complaints it described itself as the “most successful” in Scotland.

The radio, press and email ads said: “Join Scotland’s most successful club at Ibrox (stadium)” as part of a promotion on season tickets.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said 78 complainants believed the “most successful club” claim was misleading because they understood it had only been formed in 2012.

Defending the ad, the RFC said previous owner-operator The Rangers Football Club Plc, named as Oldco, went into administration in February 2012, but the business and assets were bought by another corporate entity, now known as the Rangers Football Club Ltd, or Newco.

The club provided an extract from a decision by an independent commission appointed by the Scottish Premier League (SPL), which said “a club is treated as a recognisable entity which is capable of being owned and operated and which continues in existence despite its transfer to another owner and operator”.

It also provided a letter from the European Club Association (ECA) concerning its continuing membership after the liquidation, which stated that, although run by a different legal entity, it considered RFC was still the same football club, having the same registration number with the Football Association, the same fans, the same stadium, the same club coefficient ranking and the same trophies, and it therefore recognised RFC as a founding member of the ECA despite the change of ownership.

The ASA said that, while Newco had not taken on all of the debts and liabilities of Oldco when it bought its assets and business, “we noted that both an independent commission appointed by the SPL and the ECA had reached the conclusion the football club RFC was a recognisable entity in its own right, and that it had continued in existence despite being transferred to another owner”.

The ASA added: “We further considered that consumers would understand the claim in question related to the football club rather than to its owner and operator.

“We therefore concluded it was not misleading for the ad to make reference to RFC’s history, which was separate to that of Newco.”

A Rangers’ spokeswoman said: “The club was never in any doubt that this would be the outcome.

“It was a ridiculous claim and we knew the ASA would take the same view as the football authorities, the ECA, (independent commission chairman) Lord Nimmo Smith and the panel of the London Stock Exchange.”

  27. Season ticket holders get priority for Dublin Decider

By: Newsroom Staff on 11 Jun, 2013 16:46

CELTIC will travel to Dublin to take on Liverpool in the inaugural Dublin Decider on Saturday, August 10.

The two sides last faced each other competitively in the UEFA Cup quarter-final back in 2003, and the English Premier League side will provide a stern test for Neil Lennon’s double-winning team.

Celtic Season Ticket holders will be given the first opportunity to purchase tickets for the match, and will be given priority from Thursday, June 13 at 9.30am. Tickets are available from €25 for adults and €10 for under 16s. Any tickets unsold during the priority period will then be made available on general sale.

The match, which takes place at the Aviva Stadium, where Celtic played in the 2011 Dublin Super Cup, kicks of at 5.30pm to accommodate families and those attending with young children.

Both Celtic and Liverpool have a substantial following amongst the Irish diaspora with a large travelling support expected to attend the match from the UK.

When launching the event last week, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring said: “This is going to be a fantastic Gathering event, and I’m excited about it already.

“It’s not every day that you can welcome two famous clubs from overseas with such strong Irish connections. I want to thank the FAI and both clubs for organising this game, and I look forward to greeting the fans when they come to Ireland.”

Season Ticket holders looking to purchase tickets for the Dublin Decider can do so ONLINE by calling 0871 226 1888* or in person at the Ticket Office at Celtic Park from 9.30am this Thursday, June 13.

  30. Why are the SPL keeping £2M back to pay rangers?

Record Sport has seen the document sent to SFL clubs by the SPL and it showed SPL revenues to the end of the current season, projected last summer, were set at a maximum £16million.

But outgoings and potential liabilities – including £1.8m to Harry Hood’s company and Rangers’ £2m prize money for finishing runners-up in the SPL – amounted to around £8m.

  31. Sorry but only in Scotland will this new club same club argument be up for debate.
