The rascal Neil Lennon

771

What a rascal that Neil Lennon is, laughing off interest in Amido Balde while leading us all down the Kevin Doyle road last week, then Amido pitches up at Celtic Park, complete with obligatory Celtic scarf, before heading for some scans and time plugged -up with on the running machine today.

Amido’s road to Celtic Park has not been straight.  He was released by Sporting Lisbon last year without kicking a ball for them, but he has spent a year in a competitive league playing against some Champions League defences, so Celtic will have a fair idea of what kind of player he is.

Does he have the technique?  Does he have the physique?  Does he have the temperament?   John Park and the scouts will have given Neil Lennon lots of information on these elements of Amido, so there should be no surprises.

This is even more true of Balde than of last season’s twin striking signings, Lassad and Miku (trivia question of the future, Who led the line for Celtic when they beat Barcelona in 2012?).  Both arrived in the final days of the window, with options expiring all around and beggars choosing.

As always, the most important hope for any transfer window is that the manager and scouts get their first choices.  That assured, we’ll do alright.

11 June and first piece of transfer speculation. Held the tide as long as I could.

We have a special Father’s Day offer for the Willie Wallace book.  Order between now and Thursday morning and we’ll include a Father’s Day card, complete with your own message. See the big graphic to the right..

Did Celtic reject the proposals on racism and sectarianism within our stadiums?

I couldn’t give a rats ass about the Ogilvie re-election, I’m more interested in the protection of Celtic supporters, in the street, at Celtic park and any away ground our support visit.

What was our stance when this was voted down?

    Those Charlotte tapes are hilarious

obonofanti, those tapes are not only hilarious, they’re 100% Damoclean. As are the text offerings proferred by Charlotte.

And regardless of their admissability in court, or the risk incurred by citing them (in MSM), the very fact of their existence should have been deployed *sub rosa* by CFC to indicate that the cat is out of the bag; it might be sitting there lickin’ itself, and not yet doing anything, but it’s undeniably OUT.

It’s a truth universally unapprehended that much of the most effective litigation is accomplished outwith the courts, often by dint of smacking your opponent round the head with stuff that can’t be advanced in evidence but which would damage the seven colours of crap out of ’em if it were to be made public.

I didn’t factor that sort of thing into my earlier rant, but it’s worthy of note: if a heavy hitter informs (unofficially) an adversary that not only do they they have access to the (alas, *stolen*) negatives, but that they know the age and name of the goat involved, said heavy hitter can apply big fat muckle leverage in order to advance their own position.

Ignore the Scots MSM; lament the “take no risks” approach which has hamstrung the likes of Thomson & Channel 4; but excoriate the supine inactivity of the powers that be over at Celtic Park, who continue to aid and abet The Brotherhood in their quest to reanimate the zombie club and everything it represents.

Apropos of nothing; started in on the Tanqueray No 10 despatched by BoAire fils for my birthday, thot to myself “haven’t had a pink gin in ages” and discovered that MY BOTTLE OF ANGOSTURA WAS DEID.

Has anyone else ever been there when the bar ran out of Angostura?

Spent god knows how long searching for Angostura upstairs, but found zilch; sufficiently smashed to give consideration to trying Benylin, ‘cos it’s roughly the same colour, but thought the better of it.

Decided instead to return to CQN and observe that it’s a terrible day when even the underclass (viz., gowfers) are capable of recognising that not only is something rotten in the state of Denmark, but that Cellick have relocated to Copenhagen…

The way I see it, in the fight against corruption you have but two real weapons; one was God given and the other is a product of society, they are your voice and your pound.

If you have the courage of your convictions then I hope you use them both wisely. Of course if you believe that there is no corruption… then silence is golden and your pound is just token.

    We are all complicit

All the recent and not so recent events have made some thoughts I have had swirling around clearer. This saga has been going on for years and what struck me very early (back in the RTC days) was how amateurish most of the participants have been. This includes RFC execs, SFA/SPL/SFL execs, journalists, and even some of our esteemed legal and marketing professionals.

Some history of my involvement may be appropriate here, I first starting following RTC a long time ago when I heard of the rumours that all was not right down Ibrox way, at first it was the equivalent of the guilty pleasure of watching a car crash, but as the events unfolded a sense of anger drove me to a different reason for engaging in this story, simply put – as a follower of a smaller football club I know for a fact if East Fife had committed even a fraction of the same offences or similar financial debts they would not exist today and no one in the corridors of power at Scottish Football would have lifted a finger to save them And I know EFFC would not have been unique in this situation.

Look at some of the draconian punishments handed down by the SFA over the years for minor paperwork issues or relatively benign comments onto other teams. But over the last few years Rangers have pretty much been able to twist things to their satisfaction time after time – with the one exception, when the fans spoke out in unison. And this is what is needed now – we need to unite together (even RFC fans if they see that they too are being short-changed by our “leadership”).

Uniting everyone to a common purpose is not going to be easy and there are three main strands to the fans efforts at the moment, firstly “rangers must die” this is a sizable group of to be honest mainly Celtic supporters who feel that nothing less than the complete shutdown of RFC is acceptable for their sins. Secondly “rangers must live” the RFC fans position that regardless of wrongdoing or scams or nefarious investors making money from them RFC must continue now and forever etc and thirdly “the SFA/SPL/SFL leadership must be cleansed” – this is where I am, quite frankly if RFC live or die is not really my concern as long as it is done legally and with no special treatment.

This is the one point where fans of most clubs and even RFC can see some common ground – the leadership of our governing bodies over the last few years has been nothing less than amateurish and embarrassing, from Doncaster’s Ratner moments to Regan’s deer in the headlights act they have failed Scottish Football, and all the while taking large professional salaries. Bryson’s testimony was one of the most farcical statements to have come from the SFA ever.

There is one thing that could bring this to a head – the semi mythical 5 way agreement. So much has been written about this and analysed but no-one has really nailed Regan and co on the specifics : “is there a 5 way agreement” – yes or no? “if so why is it confidential?” “was rangers treated with special consideration?” “if not then why is this agreement not made public in the spirit of transparency?”. And this is where we are all complicit – we could focus as a group on one thing (it doesn’t have to be the 5 way – but one specific action) but instead we are all pursuing hundreds of different threads with sometimes manic attention to detail, the problem is the effort becomes diluted, it becomes background noise – Charlotte is teasing but not delivering.

In a lot of ways we missed our chance months ago – Auldheid put together an excellent letter which was sent to all clubs, the response? as far as I am aware nothing – not even acknowledgement of receipt (TSFM/Auldheid can correct this) – that was when we missed an opportunity, because as we all know but it is worth spelling out again – the SFA does not rule by divine right, it is owned and run by its members, who are? – our clubs, who are owned and run by our boards. Who owe their existence to our money, fundamentally the only sources of income for our clubs and the SFA is through the fans, by gate fees, tickets, merchandise and our willingess to buy products that encourage sponsorship – so through our money – we collectively are the SFA – we should have seized the moment and collectively pinned our clubs down on the response, they ignored it and sadly so did we. Again – “time to move forward”. Time to move forward is the constant refrain but forward to where? not with this leadership – so can we unite on one thing to drive a fan led movement for change? or do we just sit back and listen to more hilarious Craigy Whyte outtakes while running the RFC numbers over again to see when they will go bust? Should auldheid’s letter be dusted down? can we get TSFM & Twitter & Fan groups & Alex Thomson & Stuart Cosgrove & even Tom English together to have one focused cause that becomes the story? A public protest? a letter campaign? we need to stop being the “monitors” and start being a force for change, The SFA must go. sorry for the rant.

    A Ceiler:

Whilst I have no idea the motivations in rejecting the anti racism/sectarianism proposal I would personally be concerned at the implications of the whataboutery methodology to this issue in Scotland.

I was one of the complainers about cup final commentary and those complaints were ultimately rejected largely because a definition of sectarianism was proposed that incorporated ‘political sectarianism’. In practice, the likely definition in practice would likely be determined by the likelihood of your actions causing offence to sensitive zombies.

Unless or until the distinction between political expression and sectarianism is reestablished any establishment measures to ‘tackle’ such issues are likely to amount to a stick with which to beat timmy.

An advert for Rangers Football Club (RFC) has been cleared following 78 complaints it described itself as the “most successful” in Scotland. The radio, press and email ads said: “Join Scotland’s most successful club at Ibrox (stadium)” as part of a promotion on season tickets. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said 78 complainants believed the “most successful club” claim was misleading because they understood it had only been formed in 2012.
