The truth about St Johnstone and Inverness

880

St Johnstone have been a managerial proving ground in recent seasons.  Owen Coyle did a great deal of good work without achieving promotion to the SPL, but his two years there managed to sufficiently impress Burnley that they tempted him south.  The people of Burnley were probably as surprised as the rest of us when Own led them to the FA Premier League but five months into the season he jumped ship to Bolton Wanderers.

Coyle kept Bolton up in 2010 and again in 2011 but they slipped from the league last summer.  Poor form in the Championship soon turned sentiment against the manger and he was relieved of his duties in October.

Derek McInnes followed Coyle at St Johnstone and brought them into the SPL in his first full season but 15 months ago, after being touted for several jobs in England, he left for Bristol City, who, bottom of the Championship, sacked him today.

Steve Lomas is St Johnstone’s current manager and the latest to impress clubs south of the border offering larger pay-packets.  He would be foolish to accept a job from a struggling club who have sacked their manager mid-season.  As we have said several times before, managers receive a great deal of credit or blame but the success of a football club is infinitely more dependent on the entire structure of the club.

St Johnstone’s structure is just fine.  The same is true of Inverness, where Terry Butcher decided to stay this week, as well as Ross County and Motherwell.  The city clubs, Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts, Dundee United and Dundee all churn through seasons as compulsive underachievers.  If they were able to do something about this fact our league would be the envy of most.

They’re not going anywhere…..nobody would have them…….just another example of greengo’s strategy for keeping them the hoarde on board, while he milks them for all they have…….which is good news for us, and the future of Scottish Football

Good Stats to support your opinion.

Of course Hooper has scored frequently no argument, however Europe apart,GH goals against poorer defenders, however my main concern is that Hooper ( in my opinion ) has lost his appetite for front running and the punishment that entails, hence the reason he is now playing deep to avoid the back to goal tackles.

I think his early effectiveness as a pure CF is therefore nullified and he causes confusion with the Midfield.

If you add to this his reluctance to commit then I’m afraid its cheerio for me.

If you track this back to Bougherra at Ibrox and subsequent games against hatchet men then I think his appetite is blunted.

    Pity.

Rapid Vienna are setting the lawyers on hun2 for the debt they have already paid, green made an offer of pence in the pound and it was rejected, greens version, ‘we have settled the euro debt that’s the end of the matter’ obviously ment, we have issued a take it or leave it offer, cept, the leave it option means euro involvement :o)

  8. Talking about riots and meltdown, a thought about the violence associated with the “fleg” in NI.

This all coincided with the publishing of the NI census figures which showed the changes since NI was established 90 years ago with Protestants outnumbering Catholics by 2 to 1.

The latest figures show that of those with religious affiliation: 46% Protestant, 43% Catholic and 6% other. They are no longer the majority, and under the 1999 Good Friday Agreement, agreed by all political and governmental parties, reunification with the Republic is down to a vote by the population of NI as I understand it.

I think this is what really is behind the “fleg” nonsense. As in Scottish football, their historical supremacy is under threat, and they don’t like it now that a remote possibility becomes a very real one.

They will now say they don’t like the Agreement and want it changed/dropped, but may find they have less luck with ‘bending the rules’ with international political accord than they have with Scottish football regulations.

Re your dialogue on youth development.

I noticed the concept of some form of endowment / trust “This segues with an idea I had a while back for a Scottish Football Endowment. In short, every ticket to every senior game in Scotland carries a £1 youth levy. The levy would qualify for gift aid, adding 28% to the sum raised.”.

Is there any reason why clubs couldn’t start doing this already, so instead of £35 for a Juve ticket, it is £25 , plus a £10 gift aid ! Which then equates to £12.80 ?

I realise Hector might have something to say if we over cooked this , and, we need to have some sort of audit trail, but , if we took £25 ( or whatever) as being our normal admission price, and then used a levy in the big games , which mean the premium is a gift aid levy , rather than a price increase, it could be an interesting way for all clubs to divert cash to youth / young player development ?

  13. If anyone still believes the EPL is the best in the world, they should watch this “super” Sunday…

Pretty anodyne fare. Liverpool are a shadow of the club they once were, and United have their poorest team in years. Take out RVP and they have very little creativity.

Hooper has been placed behind the defenders mainly due to Commons’ injury, but he has shown himself to be at least as effective, if not more so, in that position than Commons. He is having by far and away his best season at Celtic.

You may well be right and if so the hordes may not be too happy

the thing with CGs new sevco strategy it relies totally on the gullible staying onside IMO all the talk of record attendances has now given the hordes a sense of power which is all well and good when he keeps doing their bidding but leaves his whole business strategy very fragile indeed .Lets not forget the hordes now believe that their club can go out of business and still be the same club .This belief will come back to haunt them

    Gift Aid Levy:

Not sure what % could be set against a Development Scheme – assume; education (including football development), maybe costs (bed & board etc) but don’t think any wage element other than typical/ similar apprenticeship schemes.
