They want to get rid of him

‘They’ want to get rid of him.  Not all of them, by any measure, I’ve seen Neil Lennon welcomed as an old friend by some whose allegiances lie a long way from Celtic Park, but to some he represents an opportunity to indulge in the kind of prejudice which was once widely accepted in Scotland.

In this instance I’m not talking about the idiot football fans, there are lots of idiot football fans, just waiting for an opportunity to present their credentials.  You can meet them wearing any colours.  The people who showed their true colours today were in charge of stewarding guests at Tynecastle – and Neil Lennon was a guest.

It’s a horrible place.  The day the flats are built cannot come soon enough. I expect a robust response from Aberdeen, as well as life bans. I expect nothing from Hearts.

Treatment for NFL at Tynecastle shocking ,only manager in Scotland who would be on the end of such abuse ,but he brings it on himself ………eh ?????

Just watched BBC highlights of game. Pawlett scores Aberdeen 2nd goal and jumps into fans to celebrate. Checked match report ,no sign of a yellow ,is it just us who are punished for this “offence”. Then again Madden was MIB.

I would argue that AFC does have a problem with more than a Tiny minority of its fans. at the aberdeen game on the 23rd Nov there were persistant chants telling us to “go home”. And also repeated singing of a horrible Jimmy Saville song. Very few songs in support of their own team, mostly they sung abusive songs. With the away fans next to family section, the main recipients of these songs were families and visiting school groups.

What was sung that day was completely unacceptable, it has very disturbing racist and sectarian undertones. A normally thick skinned doctor of my aquaintance even went as far as to report the singing to The hate crime unit of police scotland. She never got a reply.

  5. As much as I dislike hearts and their hate infested stadium it is important to remember the only part they played yesterday were as landlords. The game came under the remit of Scottish football league as a neutral venue and all police / stewarding would have been organised by them.

  6. iPaddy – excellent post. I sometimes feel that as in many things in life sometimes the only ones you hear are those that shout loudest. Good to hear a balanced view.

One question that I don’t know the answer to – when NFL goes to another ground to scout does he need to tell the host club and given the host club was Hearts should there not have been a special police presence given the history at that ground? If not – why not is what I’d like to know. By leaving he showed a level of tolerance not many would have. Don’t know the man – but it doesn’t suggest he is hot-headed.

Not by me they are not, and I will continue to use them appropriately; appropriately with consideration and devoid of whataboutary.

  8. With transfer window now closed, I reflected on whether we have come out the window stronger than we went in.

I get the impression that our manager had been much more actively involved in this window, than in the previous one.

Last summer, I felt Lenny knew exactly what he was getting with VVD and Biton , but others were signed on scouting reports, and CVs.

I always rated Joe Ledley, always strong in big games ,but, conversely, he wasn’t a Lambert or a Sutton, or even a Wanyama, and I suspect mid to bottom of EPL is the right place for him.

So , as we look forward to season run in, I think we are stronger now, than we were at the beginning of the season, but, we are behind where we were last season.

In the months between now and start of CL qualifiers, assuming we don’t loose any first choice players, I think we need to target :

    – A centre back, possibly to replace Efe / put pressure on him

    – A better second choice goalkeeper. Again, I like Lukasz, but I wouldn’t fancy him in Europe.

    – A top striker, to play alongside, Griffiths, and I would dispose of two out of three from Stokes, Pukki, and Sammy.

In Stokes and Sammy’s case, they have served us well, but a change of clubs is in both their and our best interests.

Finally, if we have a couple of million spare, Robert Snodgrass as well.

  9. Anyway Bhoys, 4-0 today , hope to see Johannson get his first start and a demonstration of solidarity with NFL.

Tom, hope u are safely home .

  10. Our manager has been subjected to totally unacceptable amount of abuse whether sectarian, racist or equally unacceptable non-sectarian, non-racist loutish behaviour. They are in the main the small minority of individuals who have taken verbal abuse onto a more dangerous acts of violence. Many more may dislike NFL but either do nothing or reserve it to shouting obscenities at him over 90 mins of football.

He and indeed the people of Scotland were badly let down by the judicial system and in particular an Edinburgh jury. He has been badly let down by the safety and stewarding arrangements at Swinecastle. Hopefully he will not be let down this time by Aberdeen FC.

Under no circumstances though are the majority of Aberdeen fans bigoted but they like every other club in the land will have a minority who are. However stewarding should be strong enough to protect guests from abuse by a section of the support.

Scotland’s laws do not support or condone sectarian or racist actions. The last two top Scottish lawyers are of Catholic and Irish Catholic ancestory. The idea that some have espoused here that a Yes vote would make things worse in an Independent Scotland is completely ridiculous.

For those of us who want to build a better society a yes vote gives us greater opportunity to build that society. For those on here opposed to that you are welcome to stand by your friends who fly the Union Flag, Sing God Save the Queen with fervour, and give “Red Hand” salutes. Strange bedfellows indeed!

and no disrespect intended – but there was an enormous amount of inanity indulged in the analogy in as much as Aberdeen purportedly hate Rangers more than Celtic, but with regards Neil Lennon and that statement then the acid test was yesterday, or it might have been yesterday, the only way we could quantify it is to have all the same idiots in the same stand with Neil Lennon and Ally McCoist in attendance and then measure who was gobbed on the most.

Is it alright to gob on Ally McCoist?

Some of the Scottish msm, and they know who they are, should be hanging their sorry heads in shame this morning. The demonisation of NL started in Belfast but the smsm picked up the baton. These irresponsible hacks knew full well that they were fuelling the fire, but as long as it sold more copies or got more listeners, it was worth doing.

The Celtic board should have addressed it the time. Its probably too late now.

  21. 16 Roads, do you think that some of the Protestant community in the North of Ireland perhaps have some hatred because of the actions of IRA? Humans aren’t any different. Hate breeds hate. Some of your community may hate the British because of Bloody Sunday. Is that more natural hate than the hate that a Protestant may feel towards Republicans?

Tim Tanium – spot-on, when the Yes campaign succeeds the first order of business will be a Bill of Right which will give equality regardless of race, creed, or sexual orientation. Something the UK does not have that will be a huge step towards eradicating the nonsense which we have to bear on a regular basis.

NFL attacked and racially abused, Aiden racially abused at nearly every ground he played in within Scotland. Why the rabid hatred? An almost institutionalised dislike of Irish Catholics within Scotland is my experience. I faced it throughout my career working in the NE, continual joke about ‘paddy’ or how stupid the Irish were this even extended to a meeting of senior managers when one the management team (an Aberdonian) during a presentation actually said ‘we can’t do this (an engineering solution ) it looks as if an Irishman designed it is so stupid’ Roars of laughter until I said” would you mind repeating that” No apologies just most of the good old NE boys telling me I was over reacting and it was only a joke and I should calm down.

I know for a fact that because never hid my views on Irish nationalism, never preached but when asked expressed them, I was passed over many times for promotion by a senior management team comprising in the main of Aberdonian masons (it is endemic in the North East). It wasn’t until such time the company was acquired by a major American service company and the old management very quickly removed that strangely I was promoted 3 times in 3 years. Don’t figure!

The only thing that will defeat hate in the parish of NW Britain, is when honest admission and reconciliation is made on behalf of the crown that seeded the hate. Until that day hate will cling to the last straw.

Who do you think is responsible for all the hate in Ireland and at Celtic Park too, I think it is the British Crown, who do you think it is?
