They want to get rid of him

‘They’ want to get rid of him.  Not all of them, by any measure, I’ve seen Neil Lennon welcomed as an old friend by some whose allegiances lie a long way from Celtic Park, but to some he represents an opportunity to indulge in the kind of prejudice which was once widely accepted in Scotland.

In this instance I’m not talking about the idiot football fans, there are lots of idiot football fans, just waiting for an opportunity to present their credentials.  You can meet them wearing any colours.  The people who showed their true colours today were in charge of stewarding guests at Tynecastle – and Neil Lennon was a guest.

It’s a horrible place.  The day the flats are built cannot come soon enough. I expect a robust response from Aberdeen, as well as life bans. I expect nothing from Hearts.

  1. Ernie, come and join me in Russia if Scotland votes yes.

Big cup winners, the greatest danger to those who profess the Catholic faith comes from those who hate faith in my opinion. Would you not agree? Despite apparently being a sectarian hellhole, there have been few sectarian murders in Scotland. That does not diminish the fact that some poor souls have been killed by bigots. However, such murders occur in every other country. I remain to be convinced that there is some utopia where prejudice doesn’t rear its vicious face.

  2. Ernie, I think your last point indicates that you are devoid of argument. We will leave it there. Let us know about that utopia some time. One may suggest that it is you who is intoxicated given that you don’t know that some form of prejudice exists wherever man exists.

Re the Sammy v Stephen argument. I think that parts of the argument Fry and co would use are that a) the Church is, unlike other targets, more than capable of defending itself and that as such there is little likelihood of anti- Catholic violence or discrimination against Catholics as a result of some off the cuff quips b) the Church has hardly covered itself in glory with respect to abusive priests and c) religion is not innate- mocking somebody’s religion be it Catholic or otherwise is more akin to ridiculing their politics than ridiculing them because they are black, female, Irish, gay, Chinese or suffer from a hereditary disease. The metaphorical Sammy on the other hand lashes out with foot, fist and whatever he can lay his and on people who are members of a religion he has been told to hate virtually from the cradle, are physically weaker than he is and because he can get away with it.

Not defending the Guardianista’s POV at all – cleverer people than I could tear massive holes in it I’m sure- and neither am I totally convinced that it does not contribute to the view that any mockery of Catholics and Catholicism is fair game. But I think it is why it is permitted in certain circles.

  6. Big Nan, this debate has taken up too much of CQN time. We ain’t gonna agree. You posted about the young girl murdered by a pervert who may well have had masonic influence.

Big Jimbo, of course criticism of the Catholic Church should exist and the Church has some responsibility because of dreadful mistakes. Your post concludes the matter for me. Gotta go.

That’s a really good question you asked about the make-up of the police. As far as I remember they don’t answer that one.

I’ve read some really pathetic stuff on here over the years but this one is really pandering to the lowest common denominator, begining to sound like them on FF when they start to question how many Catholics hold high office or are promoted into managerial positions. And just for the record I know quite a number of police officers simply because my son is one and is also a ST holder at Celtic, amoungst his cop mates there are many RCs, Celtic supporters and ST holders and there are those that don’t have any anti catholic or pro Protestant agenda.

I have also asked him if he ever felt or experienced an undercurrent of anti Catholicism or even Celtic his answer was that it’s no different from any other workplace there are a few idiots from both sides of the divide. Things have moved on in the last 20 years even in the police, that is not to say I justify their actions particularly through FOCUS but that is not religious based that is a purely political driven agenda.
