They want to get rid of him

730

‘They’ want to get rid of him.  Not all of them, by any measure, I’ve seen Neil Lennon welcomed as an old friend by some whose allegiances lie a long way from Celtic Park, but to some he represents an opportunity to indulge in the kind of prejudice which was once widely accepted in Scotland.

In this instance I’m not talking about the idiot football fans, there are lots of idiot football fans, just waiting for an opportunity to present their credentials.  You can meet them wearing any colours.  The people who showed their true colours today were in charge of stewarding guests at Tynecastle – and Neil Lennon was a guest.

It’s a horrible place.  The day the flats are built cannot come soon enough. I expect a robust response from Aberdeen, as well as life bans. I expect nothing from Hearts.

This is a deplorable incident made much worse by the failings of the police and stewarding at Tynecastle today.

I have worked on and off in Edinburgh over a number of years and have been present in the city on numerous occasions when Aberdeen have come to town. The noticeable thing every time was the heavy police presence that was attached to the Aberdeen fans and the police routinely videoing them on their way to/from the ground. This was in the days long before the Offensive Behaviour Act and FOCUS.

So I don`t understand why there seems to have been a lack of police and stewarding when all this was going on today.

It seems to me that in Scotland you can physically assault an Irish RC football manager as he goes about his daily work and you can also throw coins and spit at him. All without police intervention. But even think about singing a perfectly legal song about Irish hunger strikers that is sold in record shops worldwide, on Amazon and on ITunes etc then the full weight of Police Scotland and the judiciary comes crashing on you.

Aberdeen fans have demonstrated aggression towards Neil Lennon before. I recall Neil taking to the field to address the crowd in May 2007 after his last league appearance at Celtic Park as a Celtic player. Aberdeen were the visitors that day and their fans stayed behind at the end so they could barrack Neil Lennon as he was making his farewell speech. It was the only time they had made any noise all game.

I hope we thrash their motley crew of hasbeens and diddy English League 2 no mark loan players next week. Another 9-0 would do me fine.

    Very interesting post..

Surely this cannot and must not be brushed under the carpet.

As a previous poster stated, imagine this treatment to somebody like Jose Mourinho. National front page news guaranteed.

What I’m totally surprised about is that you would expect the Police and Stewards to apprehend the culprits long before it was necessary for NFL and Gary Parker to leave.

I expect a very strong statement from Celtic.

    Thanks and HH.

  8. Goldstar10 I am disgusted by today’s events. In fact I feel totally deflated by them. It’s confirmation of our isolation. I really feel for Neil too.

That’s why I am equally disgusted by those who run our club. Neil is famous and has people to defend him. But our club and many of our supporters have allowed young and vulnerable supporters to be criminalised and victimised. Sadly they don’t have the resources of Neil to defend themselves.

So if this event unites us will we also look after them?

on a serious note, I seen HT saying £30 for next game at that hovel in Edinburgh, now if our fans refused to pay that, and Celtic sent the tickets back, that would be a great help in closing them doon, ready for demolishing their hovel

They have been running amok at away grounds all season, it just isn’t reported in the SMSM.

The litany of violent incidents that they have been involved in is incredible, yet it is the Green Brigade that were being vilified and demonised by the media.

The media and the football authorities bear a large part of the blame for what happened today. They both promote the idea that NL is the problem, but especially the media with their ‘he brings it all on himself’ line, assigning all the blame to Lennon and excusing those guilty of assulting and abusing him.

SCOTTISH societies anti Irish racism is so deep rooted that it ain’t going anywhere else anytime soon. ‘What school did you go to’ interviews’ in the 1970’s. Hearts are just as bad as he rest. St. Mirren ‘Gypsies tramps and thieves’ as a recent example. We are hated because of our roots, history, Lisbon and that the Irish never ever lay down to the British colonialists. But really especially 1967. It might never change although I pray that a majority of good might force society to do so. Before it is too late. HH.

Just my own stance, and it is sore, I have not attended a SFA sponsored game for past 3 or 4 years, or gone to Hamdump, and Yes it has meant missing out on seeing Celtic, but, I will not give them 1 penny of my money.

Next weeks game at Celtic park, the money from the game does NOT go to Celtic, but is shared by the clubs and funds the SFA – not from me, sorry.

  29. Aberdeen FC statement

Following the allegations of spitting and missiles being directed at Celtic manager Neil Lennon at Tynecastle this afternoon, an AFC spokesperson commented.

“The support we enjoyed at Tynecastle was absolutely fantastic and helped to create an incredible atmosphere that the manager and players acknowledged played a major part in what was wonderful day and occasion for Aberdeen Football Club.

“However, it would appear that a tiny minority within the Main Stand behaved in a manner that is completely unacceptable and has absolutely no place in football and we would urge anyone who has any information as to the identity of those responsible to get in touch with the Club in order that appropriate action can be taken.”
