There was a fascinating and completely unfounded angle to the Daily Record’s story today about Celtic’s forthcoming AGM, “Celtic’s directors insist Rangers (sic) were dealt with fairly”.
Oh no they don’t. This is an incredible dose of poison to inject into the Celtic family.
The matter in question is a resolution before the AGM urging Celtic to write to the SFA and Uefa regarding club licencing for season 2011/12. As a result of this resolution Celtic’s written response to the AGM confirms that they questioned the SFA’s licensing at the time directly with the Association, a fact which had not previously been revealed. The matter was also raised with Uefa. Both bodies backed the SFA actions.
I knew how this played out at the time and I was keen for the matter to reach the AGM, where questions could be asked and responses given, but lines like “Celtic’s directors insist Rangers were dealt with fairly” are put out just to mess with you.
The Record addresses another point in the same article, “the Scottish champions are also acutely aware of how official action would heighten tensions between fans of the two clubs”. If you think Charles Green was the only one on the receiving end of threats and intimidation last year, when these matters came to light, you’re wrong.
Celtic pursued the licencing question as far as they were permitted to do, this is quite different than insisting Rangers (sic) were dealt with fairly. The SFA are not interested and Uefa are not interested. As a result of this resolution, this issue can be properly examined in front of the supporters.
The club’s public comments, or often, the lack of public comments, put the safety of their employees and supporters, which was already acutely in focus, first. Not so long ago office staff at Celtic had to go through training on how to open the mail following specific attacks.
Despite popular mythology, Celtic don’t control the SFA, re-orientating that organisation will take a while. The issue of licensing in 2011 was pursued as far as the club were allowed to do so. Get along to the AGM, look the board in the eye and ask your questions on this. Celtic also have a responsibility – and a lot of formal security advice – to staff, each other and all of us when it comes to public comment. This is the world Celtic has to operate in. The sooner we are out of here the better.

Without doing the primary research and actually standing outside CP and RC schools myself I would still respectfully suggest that more than 95% of both groups are of Irish and RC origins. Why quoting demographic % should offend you I have no idea but the truth is out there.
How else can you explain how we have been and continue to be treated as a section of Scottish society?
I spend more than half of the year outside of the UK and have done so since 1979 and I see what I see, there is no sense of victim hood on my part, only deductive logic.
Neither is there any offence taken :)

Theres nothing wrong with garnering support among shareholders and putting the question, proposition or demand to the board at an AGM. Its your right as a shareholder.
I was attempting to explain why the board cannot take a Don Quixote approach to the shenanigans of the SFA and chose to do this by explaining about the demographics of Scotland because it is these demographics that essentially frame the TOR that the club operates in, either written or unwritten (IMO)
Its precisely because we as a cohort make up less than 1/5th of the population of the country that we are treated as glibly and disdainfully as we are.
So they cheated and caused the theoretical cost of lost revenues to CFC and the rest of Scottish football…….everyone knows this.

Unless your Lenin, Mao, Gevara et al with a coupe of million AK47’s to call up at will, you are not going to change what this country is any time soon.
On a personal level I would take an Irish passport tomorrow but unfortunately we have been gone too many generations now.
Enjoy your evening guys.
k.c,
No everyone is interested, most only want to see the hoops on the park, Murray could buy us tomorrow and there’d still be tims no caring about the board.
Sometimes I’d like to be like that.

Greendreamz,
The whole point of the resolution is that we had recourse and never used it, the demographic has not bearing on that recourse.

Anybody watching crimewatch, so sad losing a child and you’ve got to feel for them but something tells me if he wasn’t a doctor and they lived on a council estate somewhere they would have been jailed for leaving there children, been on holiday plenty of times and have never and would never leave my girl alone day or night
dessybhoy,
You think Jack Irvine will be turning up at Celtic Park as our next PR consultant ?

Facenose splte syndrome?
Masochism?
I hate the actions of S.F.A.,S.P.L. et al.,ergo I blame the Celtic Board.
I would rule nothing in or out
For everyone who said Celtic should hold their counsel and not make any statements concerning Rangers, I hope you are happy now.
The club did what ever they wanted, not a thought for supporters only shareholders.
I wonder if they would have done the same if only 10,000 season tickets had been sold last season.
Peter Lawell said he would do what was best for Celtic, that was to have a seriously harmed Rangers but not a dead one.
There was never any pressure on Celtic from their own fans to make a statement and because of this there was no pressure on the SFA from Celtic.
To see Ogilvie being re-elected unopposed tells how complicit not just Celtic, but all Scottish clubs are in this.
With regards to UEFA why would they not want to publish any documentation regarding Rangers unless of course they were informed from the relevant authorities, SFA, that there was no case to answer.
If there was I am sure they would want to re-enforce the Financial Fair Play rules that they have in place.
Regarding the world we live in, football is a sport to me, open to all and ruled by the same rules for everyone, otherwise lets forget the rules on drug taking and gambling at the same time.
If the games authorities are not going to uphold the rules, then lets stop giving them money, things will soon change, I don’t believe any league in the world can survive on TV money alone.

Just said the same thing to mrs

Nae pain nae gain, if we want to clean up the game everyone will take a hit.
But I suppose you can stick with your Stockholm syndrome eh the battered wife of Scottish football suits some, forever a victim a victim forever.
Evening Hoops and Hoopettes from a pleasant evening in Majorca.
I note that the words of Canamalar’s resolution may have been changed. Is a motion like this allowed to be reworded? I would not think that this would be the case.
Disappointed with our boards part in continuing all things Old Firm, otherwise why would they recommend against this?

Agree with you on BB05’s post. Slightly difference with yours, I never saw Jinky play, I was a late starter, my first season 77/78 despite being 51, never been away since.

Greendreamz, good to hear from you. Can’t say I was offended but the demographics point is something which I find to be crass sometimes. However the tone of my post could have been better. Interesting to read all the thoughts tonight.

Said that many a time.
BTW watching Doc Martin not the BBC so did they leave their kids locked in the room or where they daft enough to leave the door open?
Cala,
No not at all, I understand, but I cant see the benefit to us in the long run.

Not sure if door was locked the guy came in the window, the dad just said ‘ what could we have done different’ my god how about not leaving your kids alone and going for dinner and drinks with your friends would have been a start, shocking statement taking none of the blame
Lilys..,
Really ?
So a just equal transparent system would not benefit Celtic in the long run, my what big teeth you have grandpa
Hunskelper,
Bringing the McCann’s class into this horrific issue is unfair.
I hear the drizzle of the rain
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls.
And from the shelter of my mind
Through the window of my eyes
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
To England where my heart lies.
My mind’s distracted and diffused
My thoughts are many miles away
They lie with you when you’re asleep
And kiss you when you start your day.
And a song I was writing is left undone
I don’t know why I spend my time
Writing songs I can’t believe
With words that tear and strain to rhyme.
And so you see I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.
And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I.
Cala
Come on, is that the best you can say?, you let me down there.
lilys

Would Fergus McCann have accepted this? Would he have accepted the LNS mock enquiry? Would he have accepted the same club myth and the SFA’s fear of making a definitive statement on it?
Had the wee man been in charge at CP over the last 18 months Scottish football would be a very different place and the likes of Ogilvie, Regan, Bryson et al would have been run out of Hampden.
