Thistle: every dog has its day

235

A lot of water has flowed since September, when Celtic eliminated Partick Thistle from the League Cup.  Celtic went on to win the Cup and claim their 10th successive trophy, topped their Europa League group, but slipped last time out, Thistle have dropped into the play-off position, second bottom of the Championship.

Despite this, tomorrow’s Scottish Cup opponents beat second placed Inverness home and away since they lost 5-0 at Celtic Park and recorded a win a Dens.  So they are a team who can get their act together on occasion.

Celtic should be in peak condition after the winter break.  Firhill is a ground most of the team will be familiar with, the only note of caution will be our performance against Dunfermline at Celtic Park in August.  Dunfermline are only three points ahead of Partick but took Celtic to extra time in this season’s League Cup, the only side in four seasons of domestic cup football to be level at the end of normal time.

Thistle, on the other hand, are likely to remember what happened when they faced Jock Stein’s Celtic in the 1971 League Cup Final.  Every dog has its day.

It will be good to see our former player, Kenny Miller in a Thistle shirt, the fourth Glasgow team he’s represented.

` Right so Rangers (sic) get charged for the conduct of their players, but no bans for the players themselves?`

That does seem an excellent point. Can anyone explain?

  3. Sevco are 100 to one ON tonight yet I noticed that one of their fans was complaining about the release of this charge as it could affect their players tonight !

The point re timing might have some valididty but at Home v Stranraer?

  4. How can the SFA punish Sevco as a club if there are no notices of complaint against any of their players or staff for their behaviour at Celtic Park? Somebody must have misbehaved but obviously it’s a big mystery.

  5. From @markwalker_67

Christie gets a ban days after the game but yet here we are weeks before anyone knows about a 3rd yellow card and it takes all this time to charge a club over players behaviours in the same game. Am I missing something here 🤔

  6. It really is a farce with the SFA and we should be raising this in writing to the SFA. Now we know they are covering up their work but we should still press them and leak the letter.

I have never heard of a 3rd Yellow following a red.

The new compliance officer and the new referee supervisor are really no different to the previous people and are cut from the same cloth. Celtic need to force representation on the SFA committees. We don’t need to use our Executive directors but can use non executives like Brian Wilson. We also have a Football club Board with a number of Directors who can be put forward. From the outside we don’t see all the cover up’s in action. What we can do about it, I don’t know!. The other clubs are not for us and the press and other media are not our friends.

Come the glorious day, it will be all the sweeter.

  7. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

Lennie obviously involved in the signing then ?

Thought that was PL`s responsibility .

Soro will be Lennon’s second signing of the month, following the £3.5million arrival of Polish striker Patryk Klimala from Jagiellonia Bialystok.

The Parkhead gaffer added: “We’ve done a lot of work on him and did a lot of work on Klimala and we got him in the building.

  8. And the punishment is….a wee slap on the wrist???

This just gets murkier and murkier. The SFA in trying to look above board and fair to all teams simply have shown they are incapable of running an honest competition. Their corruption has come back to bite them.

Is there any veracity at all in the sun “article”? Did Morelos get a 3rd yellow? DId Kent get even so much as a wrap over the knuckles? I think we should be told.

  9. During the 18 days it took Traynor, Robertson, Maxwell and Allan,to come up with this shite, one of them must have said…..’we’ll never get away with this…..’

    The rules clearly state

A5 Offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures

Is a red card offence .

Now if we are to believe that Clancy gave morelos a yellow card for what Clancy must have taken the gesture to mean ,a throat cutting gesture ,what sort of gesture would merit a red card .

No one had even heard of the pathetic “in Columbia it means game over” pash.

So are we now to believe that Clancy and sevco are the only ones who knew if a player from Columbia makes a throat cutting gesture ,he means no harm .

I,m sorry but this complete and utter corruption has to be called out and investigated ,this is now beyond the pale .

This was how a Brechin player was punished earlier this season

    Three match ban for ‘Malky’

    [Wednesday, 11 March 2015 19:47]

malcolm stuart‘Loons’ defender Stuart Malcolm will sit out the club’s next three SPFL League One fixtures against Stranraer, Brechin City and Stirling Albion after his double sending off in last night’s defeat at Peterhead.

Stuart was shown a red card in the 69th minute by referee Kevin Graham for what was deemed violent conduct. This offence means an automatic two game ban.

However after the final whistle the match official advised Stuart and the club that he was issuing a second red card for an offensive gesture made towards the home support as the player left the field of play.

This offence brings with a further one match suspension.

    OVER TO YOU CELTIC

A player from brechin gestures to opposing fans going off the pitch and gets a straight red card

IS MORELOS OF SEVCO BEING TREATED DIFFERENTLY BY THE MIBs AND THE SFA

    too true he is

    corrupt to the core

How can Sevco be cited? It was the two odious individuals who brought the game into disrepute and could have caused serious disorder , they should be held to account individually surely?

As for the third yellow for Morelas , surely the seriousness of his actions merited a second red .

  14. According to the Celtic Blog, Rangers have been cited for actions involving Morelos, Kent and Beale and they can be fined

This is against the club and not the individuals.

This must be as a result of correspondence from Celtic as this is new and the SFA have already looked at the individuals and the cards.

  15. glendalystonsils on

A small fine for Sevco and no further ban for Morelas or ban for Kent . SFA and Rangers* will be filling the ‘loving cup’ to drink to the success of their joint ‘mission’.

  16. Good evening CQN from a bewildered Garngad

Hunbelievable so you can get a yellow card after getting a red… Ffs total pish

Also total pish is the trumped up charge for Sevco, if none of their players are getting charged, it would be laughable if it was not true.

Never mind at least our custodians will get stuck in.

    Sorry my post at 5,22pm

was from a game in 2015

I was looking for the incident Mark Wilson mentioned on radio that happened the day before morelos got a yellow at motherwell

  18. About issuing cards after a player was ordered off, during a high profile amateur game I red carded a player and after final whistle he ‘exchanged views’ with me on the way to the changing rooms.

I added an additional THREE red cards for his ‘comments‘ (all were worth more than a yellow card).

He was banned for 3 years by SAFA – aging ex youth pro thus ending his playing career.

  19. This equivalent 3rd yellow is nothing but a squirrel to do 3 things…test the footballing public reaction…and to further the victimisation of Moreloss narrative if/when the FTSFA get round to dealing with it…and to deflect from the Kent offensive gesture…all IMHO
