Time for expensive signings, the 1254125 10k

1606

Motherwell travel to Celtic Park tomorrow on a mission.  A win would see them draw level with Celtic, and after a physically and mentally draining Champions League midweek game, they will fancy their chances.  Inverness remain top of the league on goal difference, but this is the third consecutive season Motherwell have tucked in below Celtic.  They will not finish above Celtic, of course, but this is likely to be our toughest test of the season.

As well as the result, there should be other objectives from tomorrow’s game.  We are eight games into our European campaign but our two most expensive summer signings, Teemu Pukki and Derk Boerrigter, and still to settle into the team.  Both should start against Motherwell.

For reasons you know too well, I thought it would be a good idea to do the Great Scottish Run on Sunday in aid of 1254125.  I have (just) setup a Mydonate page, if you have been unable to participate in any event so far, you can do so online now.

Many thanks for your support.

  1. I. perhaps, should not be amazed, given the number of times we are urged to “just ask” an EPL star to come to Celtic, that people are amazed at the salaries on offer at EPL clubs.

We came across a leaked list, some years back, of West Ham salaries that showed that Luis Boa Morte, among several other mediocrities and reserves, was on 60k a week at West Ham. Yet, we, as a club, were derided for failing to attract a Sutton or Hartson-like player from that level and that kind of over-paid wage bill.

The only way we would get somebody from there now is on a loan where we paid a portion of wages. It would be unlikely to lead to a transfer or permanent contract because they would not sacrifice 25 to 50% of their earnings to come here.

Is it Peter Lawwell’s fault that the EPL wages are mad?

Sorry see John Campbell – beards are out, moustaches only otherwise ole Sammi and the like would be hooging it as usual. Here’s a hint….. Oh D……D…….D……..D………D………D……..D………D.

  6. Afternoon all

Still laid low with the lurgi ( sic?) and won’t make CP tomorrow. Should be a good match.

Efe A has been superb of late and hopefully now he’s signed his extended contract he won’t slacken off or get injured. His comeback since the Juventus match and his collapse in form subsequently has been a joy to watch. Virgil is the best footballing centre back we’ve had since Pat Stanton and Efe might just be second best.

Next players who should get extended contracts are Adam Matthews and Mikael Lustig.

Looking forward to the Sean Fallon book – I know the author and knew Sean himself . The Iron Man had the story to tell

  7. With all these injuries we’ve got, can we not learn a wee bit from the oldest, skeekitist, best payed rookie manager in the business: Ally McOist?

    Ask for a postponement !

  8. Sixtaeseven,

I wonder if he was sacked would the deal he has supposedly signed contain a termination clause condition that would revert to £800k salary and repayment of forfeited salary.

Just asking like as he seems such a cheeky chappie.
