Time on the bench gave Hooper space

1040

This season, Gary Hooper has looked well below form of last term; his touch, movement and goals record don’t match up, but he came off the bench on Thursday to score a truly excellent goal.  Controlling a difficult ball in the centre circle, with defenders in close attendance, he picked out Giorgios Samaras before sprinting past his markers and finishing.

The winner against Motherwell was less spectacular but required sharp movement and spatial awareness.

Footballers cannot always play through bad form, sometimes they need a break, even for an hour on the bench, to get a different perspective on how they and the team play.

Despite his return to form I would retain the same 4-2-3-1 formation against Inverness next time out.

Issue 4 of CQN Magazine is out next week, let me know if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

You got an answer to my question regarding Celtic’s opposition?

if we are steadfast, and use our position and prominence, can this deal go through in the face of our opposition?

Everyone who has posted on here could look back and think : ” Hmmm…..maybe I could have worded that better.” That is as big a criticism as I could (not “would” ) make of your sentiment. As a matter of fact, I understood what you were saying and did not have a problem with it. Considering the volume, content and standard of your many posts ( some great), I think this criticism is rather petty.

  3. This is going to sound insane but i think i enjoyed going to celtic park more when i was a kid….and that was going to most home games during rangers 9 in a row, dont know if it was just the buzz at the thought of seeing players i adored, it felt like we were the biggest club in the world, i have no idea, i even had that same buzz during the fergus years….i loved getting into the stadium and everyone would go nuts when roll with it came over the speakers before kick off. as much as i love celtic and love going to the games when i am home there is something missing from the club. im not saying its entirely the boards fault. i dont know what it is. its just a feeling. maybe its just the state of scottish football and all that has gone on over the last few seasons.

we need to be elsewhere, we need new direction. we have to get the fans back who have deserted the club over the last few seasons and we have to make sure the kids are wearing green and white on the streets of scotland and not chelsea or man united. we have a so called worldwide fanbase, 9m they say….are the club trying to reach out to these fans…i dont think they are. somebody with a brain please get involved with our once great club and turn things around before we die a slow death in this hell hole.

even things like tennents on the hoops, come on! DD you are a buisnessman with contacts all over the globe and the best you can do is that!

Whatever the motivation or sources behind Phil’s story it certainly had the impact of bringing out loud and clear the feelings of our support and Celtic are aware of the rumour and consider the article unfounded.

It is maybe a pity that insufficent trust exists that the story had credibility, but it has certainly highlighted the stakes at play.

I have just read this on another site ,can anyone confirm if this in fact was the case .

Iam reminded of a situation years ago when Rangers fielded Israeli goalkeeper Bonny Ginsberg even though his international clearance hadn’t been received and thus was ineligible. On the same day Forfar also fielded an ineligible player. This was prior to the SPL and SFL rules at the time stated the penalty for fielding an ineligble players was a points deduction of 3 points (2 points?).

However fearful that loss of points might cost them the title Rangers appealed it and at appeal it was found that Ginsberg was indeed ineligible however in lieu of the points deduction Rangers could pay a £10K fine. At the same disciplinary hearing Forfar also decided to appeal their ineligible player and were also given the option of a £10K fine or the points deducted. There was no way Forfar could afford a 10K fine as it would have bankrupted them so they swallowed the points deduction ….. they subsequently got relegated that season by dint of the points deducted and would have stayed up had they been able to afford the fine. Of course £10K was nothing to Minty and the Gers who marched on relentlessy without blinking.

Newsnight ran the first part on it last night. I’m tempted to say it was shocking stuff, but I’m not really that surprised when I think about it.

Obviously the timing is perfect though for the folk holding the enquiry this week.

I had a quick scout for that, but couldn’t see anything from the relevant period.

  9. You guys are worry worts.

Worrying never fixed anything. In fact it makes things worse by overstimulating your dopamine receptors. Or something. I think that was on an episode of House once.

But anyway, don’t worry, be happy. (thumbsup)

The way it is set up in shortbreadland is that it is all a bit harder for “us” and a bit easier for “them”. And in the course of a season this can result in “them” gaining some extra points and “us” losing a couple of points.

If its a championship that is won and lost by a couple of points or – even only one point – ,then the effectivness of this tactic is obvious.

Naturally I disagree. Their argument that both clubs are needed gives us a weapon we can use, if we’ve got the guts.

We will never have a better chance to win this.

  13. I posted earlier about what my response to a Celtic aided NewHun fc would be.

However what about my and I’m sure thousands of other Celtc season Ticket holders response to a Celtic board that strenuously opposed any pro NewHun iniatives.

What about our response to a Celtic board that led the moral, financial, social, economic and anti sectarian agenda against allowing our game to be bastardised to accomodate NewHun fc?

I reckon Paradise would be inundated with requests for Season tickets.

    The thunder would be earthshattering.

The refs might even get to referee objectively.

Even the SFA would not have compromise themselves constantly.

Maybe the media could report honestly. (I know, I know)

Goodness, the Gazebo might even need to be extended.

Let’s not all start burning our bra’s just yet. (bra’s? Really?)

A lot of anger on here since Phil article. There are a lot of ifs and buts and do-you-mind-if-I-donts to be played out before we start throwing our books and tops onto the bonfire (that’s much better than bra’s!)

Let’s try and do what we do best, stick together, common voice and goal and make sure the board know how we feel. They have not made any promises about Rearangers to anyone, anyone that believes such is more misguided than a man that thinks that Hilair Beloc.

How about those two back to back wins eh?

How about some injuries coming back in contention?

How about the clocks going back and it being light when we all head oot to school?

How about getting back to what is important, being a Celtic Supporter.

Rankers will fail soon enough, we will not help them rise from the ashes, they are cheating scum and will get their just deserts in this life or the next, worry not.

    Define Supporter please Google:

    sup·port·er/səˈpôrtər/

    Noun:

A person who approves of and encourages someone or something (typically a public figure, a movement or party, or a policy).

A person who is actively interested in and wishes success for a particular sports team.

Rumors are the oldest form of mass media.

    Back to lurking and working.

  15. I believe that should they be allowed back in for the ‘good of Scottish football’ then we should resign form Scottish football..

let that be discussed at the meetings before a vote; should it come to that…

It feels like the fun in our game has gone mate, I want to go to games and punch the air in joy because 1 of my heros scored for celtic like i did as a kid, not because our club has scored against 1 of the many enemies we face weekly. its more like we celebrate putting 1 over the many people who hate us rather than scoring for ourselves. not sure if ive written this properly as its hard to explain but anywhoooo ive said more tonight than i have in 5 months so i better make a run for it haha.

Auldheid may have used an unfortunate turn of phrase, but he is absolutely spot on insofar as should it all play out as seems likely, with a Newco Rangers emerging from the indignity of the comeuppance for their malfeasance, Celtic will hold the whip hand and must use it to full effect.

The opportunitity to reshape Scottish football is tangible.

In a way Phil has done us a great service by bringing out how strongly the Celtic support feel if justice is not done and seen to be done.

It puts the other clubs in the between a rock and a hard place position.

Do they lose the income from the Celtic support who turn up in numbers, or income from a Rangers support whose record of not turning up in numbers when the going gets tough is not encouraging? (There was a guy on Clyde last night saying he would not attend games if Rangers downsized and Keevins asked him what kind of supporter he was. That is a key issue.

Celtic just have to say to the rest of the SPL clubs, who do you want to upset the most, the Celtic support or the support Rangers might attract in a downsized form?

It should be a no brainer. At the end of the day all clubs are interdependent but Celtic are in the strongest bargaining position.

In that respect James do not be suprprised if a bargain is struck (and this is purely a personal view )but it has to be one where a repeat of the past becomes impossible.

I agree this is the oportunity to have a major say in the future of scottish football, but will we ?

What is the boards goal, do they want an escape route, do they see the OF as something that must be saved, are they willing to bend over and get shafted again like they have bent over since the club began, untill we know what they want we are playing a guessing game.

I honestly don’t know all this is going to pan out.

I suspect there will be court cases, not necesarly involving Celtic, there will be ramifications that we don’t have a scooby about that will crawl out of the woodwork when they go bust.

I just wish it would get a move on.
