Time on the bench gave Hooper space

1040

This season, Gary Hooper has looked well below form of last term; his touch, movement and goals record don’t match up, but he came off the bench on Thursday to score a truly excellent goal.  Controlling a difficult ball in the centre circle, with defenders in close attendance, he picked out Giorgios Samaras before sprinting past his markers and finishing.

The winner against Motherwell was less spectacular but required sharp movement and spatial awareness.

Footballers cannot always play through bad form, sometimes they need a break, even for an hour on the bench, to get a different perspective on how they and the team play.

Despite his return to form I would retain the same 4-2-3-1 formation against Inverness next time out.

Issue 4 of CQN Magazine is out next week, let me know if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

Thank god for Strictly, feat. Ola, Flavia and Holly.

When Scottish football implodes I shall soften the blow by watching Flavia, the Italian spitfire.

JF – I think you are maybe focussing too much on “not being allowed” to win the league. Bad term from whoever used it.

I think we can all agree that efforts were/are/will be made to make winning it as difficult as possible.

Didn’t you listen to @GrahamSpiers last night? This is a completely different situation. Celtic were on their knees, only a few days from death. The problems of RFC are nowhere near as serious as that.

  6. Auldheid,

You know that I have the highest regard for what you contribute to all things Celtic. I feel, however, that that statement “We are now the people” should never have been uttered on CQN. I don’t want ever to be associated with the supremacist mentality that oozes out of them.

You would rather we stayed submissive? That was my point.

Must have missed it but can you enlighten me who funds CTs full time wages. I only asked because he is the best ref we have when he is not in cheat mode.

    The Idiot:

In the week of an important match – can’t recall which one off the top of my head – he was found to be working at Ibrox. He’s an independent contractor, and that particular week they were paying his wages.

  12. James,

You mentioned Chris Sutton and him being the type of player you want to see. Ghod dont we all.

Dunfermline lay down. Sutton called it as he saw it and the rest is history. I was standing up for MON`s losing ahem Celtic team then like I am standing up for Neil Lennon now

Dougals injury time penalty at Ibrox just to make sure. etc

I can list blog after blog of the war of attrition material that we have had to endure. Tommy Burns Kille compensation compared with the SFA for the cardihun ?

I agree with you that we were in a position to win it and blew it but if there was a level playing field it would never have been that close in the first place. I can also safely state that I think it is far worse this year than last.

Why has the huns small squad hardly got an injury or a call off ?

Why is our larger squad decimated ?

Why do the huns have far less suspensions (see Naismith tackle at Pittodrie) although he was called up for his elbow that the ref choose to ignore

Why have the huns went out of three comps already this season but are doing well in the SPL ?

Why does Euan Norris not wear a Rangers top while whistling for penalties for Rangers ?

you shouldn´t let your very justified frustration get in the way of your overall better judgement.

    Hail Hail

  13. I think Phils story is speculative there is no way he will know what way Celtic plc will blow when the gorilla finally gets out of the room so whats the point of splitting hairs about it. Yes we do want them punished and I believe they will be no matter who comes to their defence locally. My logic for this is simple they are dealing with HMRC a gorilla so fed up with being in its cage and getting poked (one of their main men had to swear on oath today) that once free it will ravage all in front of it, Naomo Campbell exluded of course

  14. James Forrest. My understanding was he was employed by FES who are a supplier to Rangers as well as Celtic. I actually felt that on that occasion the criticism was misplaced.

  15. The Battered Bunnet on

    According to the BBC tonight…

BBC Newsnight has obtained a dossier of evidence from an ex-policeman hired by the News of The World (NoW) which shows the newspaper was engaged in covert surveillance on an industrial scale.

Over eight years Derek Webb was paid to follow more than 90 targets selected by staff at the newspaper.

Not enough self-regard can lead people to become depressed, to fall short of their potential, or to tolerate abusive situations and relationships.

Too much self-love, on the other hand, results in an off-putting sense of entitlement and an inability to learn from failures. (And it’s occasionally a sign of clinical narcissism.)

    IMO

Rogers were always winning the tax case and by such they had a problem ,how to avoid dropping 3 divisions .

Of course there will be discussions on the issue but If the rules are bent (again )to their favour ,then what really is the point of going to watch a sport that is so blatantly corrupt .

They and we should be treated in the very same manner as all the other teams ,that is the bottom line .

They keep telling us how much of a great institution ragers are ,well why don,t they prove it .

If they have a tax bill to pay then bloody pay it .

49m surely such a great institution could raise that much ,fans ,investors ,sympathisers ,friends .they were 80m in debt not too long ago and we were told it was not a problem .

Well it seems they are looking to say ,tae hell wi that ,we’ll just go into admin and it will be up to the rest of Scottish football to do what has to be done .

Here’s a novel idea MBB and the peepil pay your dues and keep your claim to dignity if not stop asking to be bailed out .

I hold the view that there are few things more indicative of ” submissiveness ” than slavish imitation ..

Self respect and standing up for oneself should not result in behaving to others as others behaved towards you..————–

  24. If the board were to go along wth such a craven acceptance of the huns outright cheating then they would be seriously out of step wth their support or customers as they might call us

If they really see us as just customers then they should realise that unhappy customers will just walk away

Failure is bad enough but to be cheated and then say that’s fine just defies belief

We would have come along way from the vision and courage of our founding fathers if such cowardice prevails

For all his many faults Sir Bob Kelly fought for the flag and was prepared to brng the whole rotten lot down rather than give up our heritage

I have shares and STs – they will all go if the board accept this!

The huns should be stripped of all the titles and trophies that were “won” during the period they were cheating

They should be forced to start at the bottom of SFL3

If they “phoenix” all their remaining history should be wiped

As a shareholder I would expect that the board of CFC should be investigating if they could recover the income they have lost out on as a result of being cheated not colluding in a shameful appeasement of blatant cheating

Why would anyone even think of continuing with what will be a charade?

Football needs healthy competition and that compettion needs to be based on a level playing field

Anything less is just not worth it!

  26. Let me ask everyone one question…

Would Fergus let the Huns away with this?

He would take them right to the death and still want more.
