Topping’s who knew what when?

2675

In his Q&A session with the Daily Record yesterday, outgoing SPFL chairman, Ralph Topping touched on the subject of who knew what when, regarding Rangers slide into liquidation saying:

“There wasn’t one single person ever who envisaged this case happening. You tell me who pointed out that this was going to happen – did you?

“The biggest assumption about the set-up in the SPL would be that you would have Rangers and Celtic playing in it in perpetuity – nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this and nobody flagged it up.”

Well, in October 2011 I knew.  This CQN article from 27 October 2011 notes in very specific detail Rangers were going to liquidate, a phoenix would be created which wanted direct access to the SPL (the top flight at that time).  I got the timing wrong, predicting the phoenix would take place during the season, but to be fair, it later became clear this was Craig Whyte’s plan at the time.

Ralph Topping’s SPL knew too.  Rangers alerted them to the situation that very month.  The SPL spend November, December and January preparing the ground for Rangers administration and liquidation, a period during which a new TV deal was signed.

It’s a good point except Pocchetino’s team were awful last season in Europe.

I think British teams still get to emotionally caught up and lose position by chasing bad percentages.

Also the adjustment as to why what normally works suddenly doesn’t

Also a lot of British teams formations are predictable so good continental coaches find weaknesses to exploit.

The Europa final were Man Utd despite having 10times the riches of Ajax won by being a dull cautious team who succeeded on the break was an example of Mourinho ‘s pragmatism.

He knows the EPL’s status as best league in the world is bunkum.

Jim Baxter made his Sunderland bow after a big money move from Rangers, but it was the Scots on the other side that stole the show as Jock Stein’s young side gave a masterclass, showing the early promise that would see them go on to win the European Cup two years later.

Goals came from Bobby Lennox, Joe McBride, Bobby Murdoch and a brace from John Hughes completed the whitewash.

My Dad went to the 7-1 game @ Sunderland, Wiki says it was raining!!! my Dad said it was snowing… I know who I believe. ;))

I heard this when the 3 Generations went to see the Celts. He also told me about the Aiberdeen trip the next week. It was really funny. Today he relayed the story when I prompted him and Mum was in hysterics. Today I found out why those 2 games were so vivid. Granda passed away a few weeks later.

So it is good to wipe the floor with them again in their own place.

Im certain he is a police agent.

That whole scenario was set -up today, saw it coming a mile off.

Soon as he got pictured with the huns top, i thought here we go.

During the week, there were loads of reports of the Police being uncovered infiltrating a thousand organisations.

    Everybody is an enemy.

    State agent/actor.

    Fits the known profile.

So who won at the gowf yesterday?

Clue. It wisnae you or OldTim!

  11. The other possibility is that peter lawwell is making sure Celtic get away draws so we don’t make a loss opening a half empty stadium in the early rounds of the league cup. If Sevco don’t drum up a crowd it’ll cost them money to host Peterhead.

Yep lads the whole thing was videoed from across the road. There were folk in the shop with him and EDL types waiting nearby.

A small number of Celtic fans approach the shop.

When it kicked off the shutters were quickly pulled down and the lads were surrounded and attacked. A lad was struck with a baseball bat and a Union Jack pillow put under his head.

    Unfortunately no Police nearby.

This Robinson, which is a false name has served time for Assault on a Police Officer and Deception.

He was online baiting Celtic supporter, this mornings and it looks like a few went to the shop and were ambushed.

There really should have been a Police vehicle outside the premises while this bigot was inside, IMO, as an absolute minimum.

A was travelling from Luton to Sunderland to incite a breach of the peace and sell his book.

He should have been stopped and detained en-route, given the incoherent nonsense he has been publishing online.

    fanatic …

    how ya doing, mate?

I will admit that I cant recall Spurs’ results last season so well … my recollection was they were pretty up and down … good away win, followed by a bad home loss, sort of thing…

but, I think the general point remains …. british game has been left behind… but, as I said, I still struggle to see why that maintains when, at the top level, there are fewer and fewer british players and coaches…

and I still think Pocchetino is one the best young managers around … I remember at one point years ago, hearing about him for Celtic … would have loved that!

    He is playing a role.

Quite an obvious one as well.

When they have their ‘new boy’ lined up, Tommy will be sacrificed.

    Nothing more certain.

He will outlive his usefulness, then its curtains:)

    Soon i hope.

  18. The green man – absolutely. Often the biggest mouth suggesting the most out there stuff is the one to watch although I’ve always suspected a few more subtle ones are planted in unions and such like to continually frustrate them taking action – I’ve got a bit paranoid about it over the years!! There’s a book or five in it never mind an article!!
