Topping’s who knew what when?

2675

In his Q&A session with the Daily Record yesterday, outgoing SPFL chairman, Ralph Topping touched on the subject of who knew what when, regarding Rangers slide into liquidation saying:

“There wasn’t one single person ever who envisaged this case happening. You tell me who pointed out that this was going to happen – did you?

“The biggest assumption about the set-up in the SPL would be that you would have Rangers and Celtic playing in it in perpetuity – nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this and nobody flagged it up.”

Well, in October 2011 I knew.  This CQN article from 27 October 2011 notes in very specific detail Rangers were going to liquidate, a phoenix would be created which wanted direct access to the SPL (the top flight at that time).  I got the timing wrong, predicting the phoenix would take place during the season, but to be fair, it later became clear this was Craig Whyte’s plan at the time.

Ralph Topping’s SPL knew too.  Rangers alerted them to the situation that very month.  The SPL spend November, December and January preparing the ground for Rangers administration and liquidation, a period during which a new TV deal was signed.

I posted the other day that boycotting our home game against newco would have single biggest effect in so far as it would bring the issue to a wider audience.

Can surrealism have a political purpose:)

Haha, now you have me on another google search .

Hugh Cromwell lead me to OLIVER ……

Which in turn lead me to “GODS EXECUTIONER”

Not got a copy, but i’m determined to read it .

Never read a book in my life ( to my shame) not even the Celtic ones i received through the years .

BTW , my ignorance of history let alone Irish history is poor (non existant really )

I thought their “troubles” started in 1690 did’nt realise that was’nt the start :((

Not wanting to start a “troubles” debate i’ll leave it at that .

I dont see the need for multi-posters. What would be the purpose of that?

Usually, its to sow discord, to deflect from the matters at hand, and get other posters confused.

You get one persona throwing in the virtual grenade, then the other persona supports the first. This is obvious. However, somebody is worried.

Kojo always deniedbeing a multi-poster but nobody believed him after his sign off mistake. Though not all of those accused of being Kojo alter-egos actually were

Kev J is another multi- poster and friend of Kojo’s but his disruptions are more annoying and repetitive than they are now in ubdermining the blog

Tom McLaughlin was another who was alleged to have used false names to back up his own viewpoint.

It all speaks to an insecurity that the point the posters are trying to make may not have much merit.

  8. I was at Sunderland yesterday, mayhem trying to get in.Women with kids getting shoved by horses, hundreds of fans withe tickets not able to get in until they just opened the exit gates so people get in.

Interesting take on Flaky Pastry. I guess unless they come clean we will never know the real truth.

    J.J.

He was a frequenting poster on McMurdo Jnrs R.S.L. McMurdo appeared to vouch for him and indeed encouraged him. They then fell out and J.J. set up his own blog. I’ve followed it with interest from the start, in the early days it was certainly more pro Rangers and indeed he said he would and did block posters who had bhoy in their moniker. He, in time, started to get hassle from Sevco followers of McMurdo and their enemies Sons of Struth.

He started ripping into Sevco more and quickly realised his hits and donations increased.

My thoughts are he sees Celtic fans as a cash cow. I think The Mensch who posts on his blog is him too. He reads CQN, maybe he will post and tell us the truth, did he play a blunder and con McMurdo for a considerable period of time or has he changed his opinion to get Celtic fans to donate to his blog, No matter what something doesn’t add up with him.

  15. Re the post earlier about Hearts.

I’ve a few colleagues who are season ticket holding Jambo’s and they are disgusted by Budge’s lack of voice on all things Sevco.

I’ve also been to hospitality at Tynecastle a number of times and was treated exceptionally well. They were comfortable that I supported Celtic and I never felt under any pressure to hide my allegiance.

Some fellow Tims think Hearts fans can be worse than Sevco’s – I’ve found that to be utter nonsense, not in the same bigoted league, although they do have a few rockets amongst their support.

I have the utmost respect for FOH as that organisation actually did something that saved their club…or is it company:)

  16. Dixie

Yeah my kids relayed horror stories re getting in. They’re both big lads but said it got scary trying to stay on their feet and saw several ” weaker” fans getting taken to the ground.

I’m assuming everyone is ok or we would have surely heard about it.

I don’t think you can pick n choose which games to attend if you’re in the HCTS,I couldn’t make a game 3/4 years ago and phoned the ticket office to cancel but was told that if you’re in the scheme you must take tickets for every game as its part of the deal

I don’t know any Hearts fans but Budge’s father and Dodgy Dave the first go way back (allegedly)

I understand fans of other teams not liking Celtic or the old/new klub but can’t understand why they are not peed off about being cheated by a team they seemingly dislike to start with

I want Celtic to put a marker down, especially for the Res 12 Bhoys, but I am also comfortable knowing my paranoia was justified …… And Wednesday is massive for our football team

I would say Wednesday is more important, some might disagree but it’s all bout the team for me these days

I usually seem to post at a different time to you.

I used to go racing quite a bit. I presume you have been to Cartmel before.

I have to say one of my least favourites. Course facilities very poor, more a fairground with a beer tent. Caramel itself lovely, we stayed 2 miles away in Grange upon Sands, again lovely, but no one under 80 appeared to live there.

My favourite courses apart from the biggies like Cheltenham and York, Uttoxeter was a lovely surprise beautiful town and good facilities. Windsor and Beverley much better than I expected too. Hexham was a farmers field. Doncaster and Ayr disappointing for Grade 1 tracks and Chester was a poor mans York. Only my thoughts and experiences, be lucky.

getting excited/nervous about rosenborg already – big game – will br have picked up enough about them – will the players be able to lift themselves up to mid season form – what formation will rose’ play – will we have a ‘get a goal from nothing’ player on the pitch

  22. Delaneys Dunky/ Billybhoy

Despite all their best underhand efforts, the SFA, SPL, Club chairmen, SMSM, Charles Green, failed to get Sevco a place in either the top tier (plan A), or the second, because football supporters made it clear to their clubs that they would countenance nothing but a start in the lowest division for the new club.

    We know what happened next.

    Everyone has a tipping point.

    Hail! hail!

  23. Gerry, one of the positive things to come out of all of this is the country-wide dislike of Sevco. I work with Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, St Johnstone and Thistle fans and all of them support Celtic when we play the Hun.

I got into the stadium no problem yesterday, never saw any issues outside, now trying to get to the bar in the concourse that was a different matter with all the partying tims singing n dancing, the coppers wouldn’t let you take your drink to your seat so it just got busier as more people got in and bought a beer, all good clean fun though

  27. Back when celtic had won 5 or 6 in a row in the early 70s I used to marvel at all these really clever old men on our supporters bus who used to know so much about celtic that they could find all these problems with the team and the club that I could never see. Nor indeed could Jock Stein or even my old man. We just went along and enjoyed our celtic supporting most weeks, it was great fun and ok we complained when folk like Bobby Davidson cheated us in the 1970 cup final but we knew what we were up against and it made our triumphs all the sweeter. We knew what we were against, it was part of the joy of it.

I used to marvel even more that how intelligent the older guys were outside chapel on a Sunday when they gathered after mass usually to moan about this or that about celtic. They were even more clever as they never even went to any of the games for whatever reason but my goodness they knew everything that celtic were doing wrong and loved to moan about it.

My old man was a plumber to trade and although not academic in any way he had a philosophical view on things. He explained to me one day that many of these guys had few ways of venting their frustrations with many other things in their lives. He explained that celtic gave folk like him and I a nice escape from the daily grind and as we were winning that these were amazing times and that there were thousands like us happy with our celtic. He explained that for others celtic was like a punchbag and a chance for folk who had no chance of ever actually changing anything in the world to shout and howl at the moon as they had never really achieved much themselves. No matter what celtic did it would never be good enough.

He also told me ‘our day will come’ when celtic will be the dominant team in scottish football and the place of Catholics in Scotland will be established as equals with equal opportunity.

I love it that he has lived to see that day.

For me our day has come in society here, and of that there are a great many examples, and for me there is no doubt our club is at an all time high in its relativity against ‘the field’. We have one of the best run clubs in Europe despite the EPL dynamic. We are filling our stadium and when the GB are there we have an amazing energy in our stadium even vs Ross County.

Interesting though that so many clever folk….. Even in 2017…..still prefer to moan and whinge about Celtic….
