Torch passing moment between Carl and Gus

288

There are moments when the torch passes from one player to another in football.  Carl Starfelt (28) played for Celta Vigo on Saturday but did not make the bench for Sweden against Moldova last night.  Instead, Gustaf Lagerbielke made his second appearance at the back for Sweden and scored his first goal for his country.  Just as the players swapped in and out of Celtic in the summer, the international careers of Gus and Carl are heading in different directions.

A few weeks ago, Celtic called on Tomoki Iwata to fill-in in central defence, but soon we will have a glut of options there.  Cameron Carter-Vickers will be first choice when fit, while Gustaf, Liam Scales and Maik Nawrocki will compete for the other spot.  Nat Phillips, on loan until January, and Yuki Kobayashi are also in the picture.

Brendan Rodgers will genuinely not know what his central defensive pairing will be by the midway point of the season.  Early season expectations were that Maik was mostly likely to grab the opportunity.  The £4.5m signing has now been out with a hamstring injury for eight weeks, with no sign of an imminent return.  It will be a long way back to fitness for the Poland Under-21 international, but he is so highly thought of, he will get his chance.

Until then, Gus and Liam will be able to stake their claims.

Absolutely shocking foul by England’s Gallagher.

Launched, body off the ground, studs to ankle which twisted badly.

    Red card all day long.

  2. Giakoumakis scores and creates second for Greece. We lost a good one there.

Scales playing well, but some very avverage players letting us down.

  3. RIP Hugh.

    RIP Frank McDougall.

Can remember the 4-1 game, well can’t really, as we had just spent 5 day’s on a Bus to Lisbon and Back (5-0 game later).

We arrived home at 4.30am, bus was leaving at 7.30am for Aberdeen…..

The rest, as they say, check the BBC for high/lowlights 😁….

    Once Again RIP Frank.

“SENIOR sheriffs have ruled using the word “hun” to describe Rangers supporters is a form of sectarian abuse.

A man who directed the slur at two police officers argued it was a slang term in the west of Scotland for followers of the Ibrox club that had no religious connotations.

David Di Pinto was convicted of a breach of the peace aggravated by religious prejudice at the Scottish League Cup Final between Celtic and Hibs at Hampden Park in December 2021.

His trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court heard he shouted and swore, flailed his arms and called two officers “hun c***s”.

He was fined £500 and made the subject of a football banning order for 12 months.

However, Di Pinto, 39, of Renfrew, challenged the religious aggravation element of his conviction at the Sheriff Appeal Court in Edinburgh.

His legal team argued the use of the word “hun” did not contain a religious aspect nor disclose malice and ill-will towards a religious group.

They said a “hun” was a member of a warlike nomadic people from Central Asia who invaded and ravaged Europe in the fourth and fifth centuries.

Sheriff Principal Aisha Anwar, sitting with Sheriff Principal Derek Pyle and Sheriff Brian Mohan, rejected Di Pinto’s appeal and ruled that the word is an offensive sectarian term directed at members of the Protestant faith who are thought to be Rangers supporters.

Sheriff Principal Anwar said: “The historic sectarian tensions within Glasgow and particularly between supporters of Rangers FC and Celtic FC are well understood in Scotland. ”

Sure as shit they will be looking to prosecute us for putting this term online whilst letting the masses be “up to their knees” without punishment

  5. For those of you who think my deletions and censorship are harsh

We live in a hugely different world to the CQN of 5, 10 or 15 years ago

In terms of both the litiguous nature of our world and the trolls that pop up to deflect our converstaions

In our case in CQN the trolls are rife

One or 2 well placed posts/trollings corrupt the blog

    And hurt us going forward

Apologies for the deletions and censorships of good Celtic fans

The world lost a great Tim yesterday .

    Hugh ( Shuggie) MacFarlane .

Hugh’s brother Ben will be known to some on here .

The MacFarlane brothers Hugh , Michael , John and Ben were and are , very proud of their ancestral Irish heritage.

They were brought up during an era of distinct anti Catholic persecution.

In the town of Buckhaven in Fife ,

Which was a wee Orange enclave during the 1970’s .

They were the product of two wonderful parents .Along with the McAllister’s they were the most abused Roman Catholics in the town .

Just for playing fitba in the street they would be bullied because they were RC’s .

They bore the abuse with bravery and class .

Shuggie was a wonderful soul .

    Gentle in his manner .

All four brothers more intelligent than the average bear .

Hugh always made you feel like his day was better for meeting you , when the reality was .

Your day was better for meeting Shug .

Always a blether about “ The Tic” .

Sometimes it would extend onto our hopes for a United Ireland .

A Staunch optimistic Celtic Mhan .

A Mhan of great faith .

His family and loved ones will be really hurting today .

He will be sadly missed for years to come .

    R.I.P. Hugh MacFarlane .

  8. Liel is likely to leave Celtic now – not sure how terminations work.

The “temporary stand” my memory isn’t the best but pretty sure me & my mates were in there for the Paul McStay testimonial but with the fog that night we would have been as well staying in Bar67, couldn’t see a thing … around that time “our” season tickets were in the old Rangers end (Coatbrig end) so we got re-seated, the old temporary stand certainly moved, although I think the Ebtrs around then used to break up the park and win 1-0 seemed like every game

Roll on tynecastle next week 🍀
