Torch passing moment between Carl and Gus

288

There are moments when the torch passes from one player to another in football.  Carl Starfelt (28) played for Celta Vigo on Saturday but did not make the bench for Sweden against Moldova last night.  Instead, Gustaf Lagerbielke made his second appearance at the back for Sweden and scored his first goal for his country.  Just as the players swapped in and out of Celtic in the summer, the international careers of Gus and Carl are heading in different directions.

A few weeks ago, Celtic called on Tomoki Iwata to fill-in in central defence, but soon we will have a glut of options there.  Cameron Carter-Vickers will be first choice when fit, while Gustaf, Liam Scales and Maik Nawrocki will compete for the other spot.  Nat Phillips, on loan until January, and Yuki Kobayashi are also in the picture.

Brendan Rodgers will genuinely not know what his central defensive pairing will be by the midway point of the season.  Early season expectations were that Maik was mostly likely to grab the opportunity.  The £4.5m signing has now been out with a hamstring injury for eight weeks, with no sign of an imminent return.  It will be a long way back to fitness for the Poland Under-21 international, but he is so highly thought of, he will get his chance.

Until then, Gus and Liam will be able to stake their claims.

My last comment on this, I think the Green Brigade (in my opinion) we’re standing with the Palestinian people not Hamas … but feel free to have your own view, my very last comment is what about the lives that are lost by Israeli rockets … or do they not matter to you for any comment

Liam Scales must be due a new deal before Brentford or Southampton come calling 🍀

  2. Big Jimmy: really disappointed with the Ireland result but with NZ having two players yellow carded we never imposed our advantage. Was at a retirement do so couldn’t follow the match properly.

All good here. Bringing twenty colleagues over for the Aberdeen match in November.

    Hope you are keeping well.

  3. Sorry to continue with this topic but I have seen so many posts claiming the GB were supporting Hamas that I feel the need to ask:

Did the GB have other banners as well as these two ?

    `Free Palestine ` ; `Victory to the resistance`.

If not, then claims that they were supporting Hamas are blatantly unrue.

FWIW, I think the GB were wrong to join in the general commentary on the horrors taking place in Gaza and Israel. They must know how our media will respond. I hope they have learned and let any near future protests take the form of distributing leaflets giving their point of view.

It was a really smashing game of rugby between two fairly evenly matched sides. I felt Ireland made too many basic errors and that was the difference.

PS Should the Organisers be questioning their `early` seedings policy?

Two of Wales, Argentina,Fiji and England go through whilst two of Ireland, All Blacks,South Africa and France are knocked out? Hmm…

    worth a watch

I did (watch) and I agree that it was worth it.

  8. I’m surprised that CCV played part of the US v Germany game. Do Celtic have to release players for friendly internationals?

  9. Hot smoked.

Scotland ranked 5th could have also beaten the 4 in the weaker quarter finals.

Plenty of rooms and tickets in Paris if Fiji and The Boks win today.

Hell mend world rugby and the French for organising such a farce.

  10. The afghans giving Engerland a run for their money at the cricket.

What a Sunday this could be if they lost to Afghan and Fiji and Spain drew with Norway to let Scotland qualify for the euros.

And rangers appoint another 10 month wonder as manager.

Clement was holding out for a FOUR year contract … holding the Huns to ransom after he witnessed Gio & Bealesy Bhoy binned …

    Happy days

Am loving the Hun pain :-)

Brendan over his two stints will go down in history seeing off manager after manger in Govan, would love Barry Robson (a great player for us) to win the league cup and get 2nd place in the SPL this season

Clement new manager at Sevco on Sky Sports News

    —————

What they don’t get over there is that they could appoint Pep or Klopp and they’d still not be able to better us to regular titles.

As Phil says “Simply the Second Best!”.

It’s the new normal. They just can’t get used to it and their fans will never accept it, which means they’ll continue sacking managers, moving on board members, sacking scouts and DoF, changing scouting systems etc and none of it will change a thing.

They are incapable of accepting their place, which is good news for us Tims.

Even the BBC report on Clement says his task is to overhaul Celtic’s 7 point lead. Surely it should be stability and building something to challenge next season or the season after.

Their supremacist mentality actually works in our favour.

    😃👍🏆🏆🏆🇮🇪🍀⚽️

  13. That will be 3 managers they are paying, GVB and Mick Bassett will be still getting paid on gardening leave, as they can’t afford to pay them off

Because you’re sevco troll who has used the tragedy to try to create division on a football blog. What an utterly loathsome pi#ece of shit you are. Want me to go on?

  15. Qatar has pulled out of any attempt to buy Manchester United. You might think that has nothing to do with the horrors of the Middle East but you would be wrong on two counts. One, Hamas supporting Qatar can no longer prioritise buying a Jewish owned company, a football club, for £5 billion, and or being seen to do so amid chaos. Second, Israel hopes Qatar will finance a huge refugee camp in Egypt for those forced to leave Gaza, something Egypt cannot hope to afford, and presently has no intention of so doing. That £5 billion would go a long way to getting that project underway. The project being a second Nakba. The UN would have to be involved, and nobody could dispute that any Palestinian ending up in the Sinai would be anything other than a genuine refugee. Well maybe Suela.

Oh well, here we go again.

Let the hype begin. The SMSM can just dust off the stuff they wrote when Micky Mouth was appointed and change the name.

  17. Clement confirmed (if you pardon the pun) three and half year contract … the Hun board must have tried to save 6 months or his pay off :-)

  20. GerryBhoy,

    I think we will qualify.

It looks unlikely at the mo, granted.

The Kilmarnock game showed real promise and actual evidence we have an incredible team here. Reo, ffs.

You want any player to Njoi the game of fitba. It was good to see him Bach doing that.

    t’is a team game.

Definitely worth a read, very accurate indeed. Nothing quite like a good bit of hate,eh.

Fairly obvious why “the west” is in Israels side, but what about the illegal settlers stealing Palestinian land on a daily basis. Does that not count any more

it is some listen – he is a brilliant manager, winning 3 titles in a row in belgium with 2 different clubs, while promoting academy players, very methodical, all about the system, give him time, man mangement is good, he is brilliant ………….

    meanwhile on follow follow

he better win the league cup, the european group, make the players better and beat ra cellic,

  26. Handing out another multi year contract when you’re paying off the two previous management teams is…brave.

On your post regarding works going on around Celtic Park, is it in a large area? I assume if it was the fabled hotel etc. that’s huge construction and there would have been an announcement?
