There are moments when the torch passes from one player to another in football. Carl Starfelt (28) played for Celta Vigo on Saturday but did not make the bench for Sweden against Moldova last night. Instead, Gustaf Lagerbielke made his second appearance at the back for Sweden and scored his first goal for his country. Just as the players swapped in and out of Celtic in the summer, the international careers of Gus and Carl are heading in different directions.
A few weeks ago, Celtic called on Tomoki Iwata to fill-in in central defence, but soon we will have a glut of options there. Cameron Carter-Vickers will be first choice when fit, while Gustaf, Liam Scales and Maik Nawrocki will compete for the other spot. Nat Phillips, on loan until January, and Yuki Kobayashi are also in the picture.
Brendan Rodgers will genuinely not know what his central defensive pairing will be by the midway point of the season. Early season expectations were that Maik was mostly likely to grab the opportunity. The £4.5m signing has now been out with a hamstring injury for eight weeks, with no sign of an imminent return. It will be a long way back to fitness for the Poland Under-21 international, but he is so highly thought of, he will get his chance.
Until then, Gus and Liam will be able to stake their claims.

Very slow start from Ireland
SAINT STIVS
Have you been up by Celtic Park lately? I was there yesterday buying grandson birthday presents from the superstore.
There is a building site taking shape on the ground to the right of the Pools Office, in the area where the team buses usually park on match days. I saw 3 or 4 workmen’s huts that looked to have been newly erected. There were several hard-hatted, vis-jacketed workmen in the area looking busy.
Could this be the start of the fabled hotel/museum building project?
I have no idea, but something is happening.

Brilliant game of rugby.
Awesome.
Credit to both teams.
All Blacks superb.
Ireland terrific.
They made one big mistake.
Letting Andrew Porter insult Wayne Barnes’ mother pre-match.
(At least that’s how it looked from the refereeing of the scrum)
2-0 to the Southern Hemisphere.
Miles Harrison sounds upset.
🤥🤥🤥
Brilliant attack play by Ireland at the end met by an even better Kiwi defence
All Blacks go through

Curious if the Ireland rugby fans all sing ‘the fields’ or just 3/4 of them ?

“My fourth green field will bloom once again” said she
Not a rugby fan ,but an English referee ,what would you expect ,
The All Blacks played a man down for twenty minutes for what seemed to me minor offences.
Then again Celtic played with nine men in Rotterdam….
In the years ton come …
I think (just my opinion)
The Green Brigade will be on the correct side of history
Any death is terrible … inflicting more death is pretty horrifying
Well done the GB staying silent justifies more deaths
If a part of the ground gets closed or heaven forbid the whole ground …., just think for one second of what’s happening every day or the week and think for one minute of it was your child
Well done the GB
If nobody does nothing then nothing happens
More than a club … 🍀

I respectfully disagree.
“staying silent justifies more deaths” – what does this mean?
On 7th Oct, as children were being murdered in their beds, women raped and innocent people beheaded, a small minority of Celtic fans thought it was a good idea to show support for this and involve Celtic in this support. This was wrong.
Many organisations which initially showed support, have since dialled back and apologised for ther premature message.
Sadly, our lateral movers don’t have the maturity to do similar. Like petulant children, they will throw a tantrum and do the opposite of what they’re being asked to do.
Let me be completely clear here, I’m not saying the GB should support the bombings in Gaza. This action is abhorrent and the coming days will bring stories of the most dreadful suffering.
The display of Palestinian flags will, to most reasonable people, look like support for the crimes of 7th Oct. Indeed, many of the pro Palestine marches of yesterday saw protesters with stickers of the paragliding murderers on them. The same paragliders who went on to murder 260 festival goers. We also had the Celtic top wearing woman in Glasgow use the nazi attrocities to lambast supporters of Israel. No doubt that’ll become the local story.
I was reminded of the Mitchell and Webb sketch – “Are we the baddies?”
My wish, my plea would be for any Celtic fan who is horrified at what is unfolding in Israel and Palestine to have a banner which simply says – Stop Killing Weans
GLENOWEN on 15TH OCTOBER 2023 7:20 AM
‘Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas and transferring money to Hamas,” Netanyahu told his Likud party’s Knesset members in March 2019

Genuinely not sure why the insult.
Do you think it was right for the GB to show support for the murder of 1300 Israelis (and other nationalities) last Saturday?
I’m against the killing of children. That was true last week, it remains true this week.
