Uefa-Res 12, Craig Thomson, take a look at yourself

1052

The document from Uefa to the Resolution 12 team, which emerged online over the weekend, is genuine. The headline part of this correspondence was always going to be Uefa confirming that whatever errors or omissions on the part of Old Rangers and the SFA’s Uefa vetting process, no further action was possible as New Rangers are a “new club/new company”.

Priceless, I know, but a delightful wee surprise, though it was, the status of Newco Rangers wasn’t the purpose of Resolution 12. Res 12 was about SFA process and accountability.

There was a great deal of correspondence with media figures since the letter was produced. It’s probably worthwhile noting the chronology of correspondence:

Uefa wrote to the Res 12 team on 6 June, copying the SFA and Celtic. After this date Grant Russell at STV asked Uefa for an update and received pretty much the same information that was sent to the Res 12 guys, without the supporting “new club/new company” line.

You may be of the view that after receiving the 6 June letter, the SFA could have asked Uefa not to offer such information in future (the layers of this story are endless). We’ll never know, but the horse had already bolted.

As correspondence on Res 12 continues, the team decided not to attempt private conversations with Uefa while making correspondence public, which is why this leak didn’t come from the Res 12 team. But I’m glad it’s out. It’s the definitive and irrefutable reference point on the status of Newco Rangers, and it’s on Uefa headed notepaper.

I don’t expect I’ll be goaded about Res 12 online as often going forward.

While we’re on the subject of the SFA: Craig Thomson, take a look at yourself. You know this is not good enough.  Your decision-making this season has been atrocious. James Forrest booking, for staying several yards away from the crowd after scoring a goal, was ludicrous, capping a multitude of errors this month.

If only people at the SFA were accountable. Which brings us back to the point above.

Getting nervous about tomorrow.  So much on the line……

In tense away ties, when going down the streaming route (what…its akin to the huns going ‘down the liquidation’ route in terms of viable options, surely) I have taken to also going keeping a livescore.com tab open, which updates instantly, whereas streams can be ~20seconds behind.

Not much of a difference, but strangely reassuring.

Alternatively, you can have your da listening to the wireless only, who is about 5 minutes ahead of everyone including the players, come bursting in and tell you the latest.

Morning Bhoys tonights the night even with a 3 goal lead im nervous I would rather we had not lost the 2 goals and it had stayed 3-0 those two away goals give Bar Sheeva a chance. However despite my nerves I expect the hoops to get through and that would be a fantastic start to Brendans reign. I dont know what the team will be but we may get a surprise or two I would play Joe Hanson as his high energy pressing in my opinion would suit this game . Well enjoy your day Bhoys and have an even better night .H.H.

Last beamback I attended was probably away to Hapoel Tel Aviv IIRC on a nice night at CP in the late 90s.

Weather and lack of bar facilities render it not really a viable option very often.

That reminds me of a time when I watched a European match up in my room when I was younger because I was too nervous to watch it with the rest of the family. TV in my room was fed by an aerial, the main TV downstairs was on cable and for some reason the action was a just marginally ahead on my TV. On three occasions my family heard me cheering and jumping around about 5 seconds before they knew what had happened.

We beat Ajax 3-1 at the Amsterdam Arena that night.

  21. Tambourine Bhoy of 1967 on

Regarding Rogic and his lack of pace…. he may not be the fastest, but he has 2 of the quickest, smartest feet in the country. He’ll be the guy who even when surrounded by 3 opposition players will casually dance his way into space, and if he continues to improve his overall game, will often use that space to create and score many, many goals.

What a night, the first big European name we turned over since saving the club really, we’d been schooled a bit in the mid/late 90s against PSG and Hamburg but that was a hugely symbolic win and signalled great times to come.

Despite the criticism of Ronny, I think Rodgers has arguably a better starting point that MON(Larsson, Lubo notwithstanding) given the stature of the club, facilities, infrastructure, finances etc.

Remember people thought Samaras was slow, when he was 2nd fastest in the team apparently. Players with big strides can give the impression of not running at top speed, although they’re shifting along.

    __

Depends on distance though doesn’t it?

Maybe Rogic is faster than Griffiths over 100m but Griff is faster over 10m

Short bursts of acceleration are more important in Football in my opinion

  28. traditionalist88

That is possibly a fair point. The narrative now is that Ronny made good players bad, so by such logic Brendan has started with a good squad.

Personally I think the issue last couple of seasons has been average to decent players being played in an inflexible system that suited maybe two or three of the players at most. But that’s all in the past and it is futile even debating it any more (attention Chris Sutton).

Now we have a manager with a good pedigree, who commands respect from players, opponents and the media and who has the tactical flexibility to “fix” things during a match. The players are still average to decent but the manager will take them to the next level. That is why we are all excited.

  30. ERNIE LYNCH on 23RD AUGUST 2016 11:15 AM

That’s my understanding. The Res 12 guys (and Celtic, and the SFA) got a letter from the Head of licensing and fair play. The media outlets had a response from the press dept. No redaction as far as I’m aware.
