Uefa-Res 12, Craig Thomson, take a look at yourself

1052

The document from Uefa to the Resolution 12 team, which emerged online over the weekend, is genuine. The headline part of this correspondence was always going to be Uefa confirming that whatever errors or omissions on the part of Old Rangers and the SFA’s Uefa vetting process, no further action was possible as New Rangers are a “new club/new company”.

Priceless, I know, but a delightful wee surprise, though it was, the status of Newco Rangers wasn’t the purpose of Resolution 12. Res 12 was about SFA process and accountability.

There was a great deal of correspondence with media figures since the letter was produced. It’s probably worthwhile noting the chronology of correspondence:

Uefa wrote to the Res 12 team on 6 June, copying the SFA and Celtic. After this date Grant Russell at STV asked Uefa for an update and received pretty much the same information that was sent to the Res 12 guys, without the supporting “new club/new company” line.

You may be of the view that after receiving the 6 June letter, the SFA could have asked Uefa not to offer such information in future (the layers of this story are endless). We’ll never know, but the horse had already bolted.

As correspondence on Res 12 continues, the team decided not to attempt private conversations with Uefa while making correspondence public, which is why this leak didn’t come from the Res 12 team. But I’m glad it’s out. It’s the definitive and irrefutable reference point on the status of Newco Rangers, and it’s on Uefa headed notepaper.

I don’t expect I’ll be goaded about Res 12 online as often going forward.

While we’re on the subject of the SFA: Craig Thomson, take a look at yourself. You know this is not good enough.  Your decision-making this season has been atrocious. James Forrest booking, for staying several yards away from the crowd after scoring a goal, was ludicrous, capping a multitude of errors this month.

If only people at the SFA were accountable. Which brings us back to the point above.

Getting nervous about tomorrow.  So much on the line……

  1. Morning CQN’rs. This time tomorrow we WILL be discussing who we will get the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW, make no mistake about that.

Brendan is a wily one and I am sure he will have his team and tactics spot on; but just in case he hisnae and he has Chris Davies on here looking for some tips, here goes.

Backline, keep Janko and Tierney in with Toure and O’Connell. Trust Kolo to nurse them through the game – the pace of the young lads will be vital in getting back and forwards. Tell Craig Gordon to open is feckin’ mooth and talk to his defenders all through the game: it makes a big difference. Also, play the ball short to our team Craig and keep possession!

Broonie and Nir Bitton in the middle. Take a punt on Liam Henderson in there with them; his industry and solidity will worry Be’er Shiva. Also delivers a great corner kick. (I know he won’t, he will play Rogic).

The 3 Amigos up front: Forrest, the Griffalo and Sinclair. Run them ragged and stretch their backline allowing Tom Rogic (if he plays) or Scott Brown to run onto the second ball! That way their midfield need to screen our midfield runner and it hampers their game plan. We will get a goal in the first 30 minutes!

Second half, tighten up a bit with 4-4-2 bringing Erik on after 60 minutes to see the game out with Toure. Dembele for Rogic/Henderson and play the ball over the top and into corners for our front 2 to run onto. Tuck Sinclair and Forrest in a wee bit (remember inside lefts and inside rights) with Janko and Tierney covering the flanks. This will flood the midfield and stop their big Nigerian trying to dictate play.

Then with 15 to go, bring on Paddy Roberts and watch them struggle to match his pace and trickery.

A score draw or a 2-1 or 3-1 victory to the bhoys!

Thanks to work, i will be relying on Radio Scotland and this place to keep me informed. Massive game. Despite the defensive lapses, can’t see us blowing it. Too much firepower and confidence upfront.

  3. I don`t know how many times I have read on here that the game we were about to play was `the most important game of the season` . Not only have I read that many times but I have also agreed!

Tonight`s game, though, from the commercial side, really is our biggest game of the season. It compares , for us, with those play off games for the Premiership in Englandshire.

From a supporting point of view, of course, we will have quite a few ` most important games ` to come. Aberdeen next Saturday for a start !

I’ll be very surprised if Liam is in the starting 11. And I think Mikael’s experience will be preferred to Jankos inexperience at right back.. Big Mik is first and foremost a defender.

Team very nearly picks itself tonight.

Too late to bring in Erik, O’Connell has held him off, Bitton outranks

McGregor and Lustig was held back at the weekend in order to play tonight.

  8. HOT SMOKED –

I think you missed the point.

The normal comment after a game is, “If they had offered them a 5-2 before the game they’d have taken it.” That makes sense.

What Paddy said this morning was, “Celtic have a 5-2 lead. If they’d been offered that before coming over (to Israel) they’d have taken it.” That doesn’t make sense, which is what I found funny.

No big deal. Just made me smile.

  9. TGM

I often cycle by a guy wearing a Celtic top whilst standing outside his house . I always give him a cheery greeting but I am not sure he knows why! I think he believes I am someone he knows but just doesn`t recognise in the cycling gear !

If we qualify tonight, I will stop and chat to him the next time!

  10. Context and comparisons.

If we get through tonight’s game it will earn us more in prize money than we’ll have accumulated from the SPL should we eventually reach 10-in-a-row.

  12. Hoping for a good result tonight , we have a good cushion , but that defence scares me a little . This team is no mugs , a lot of defending and dropping back will be required . The lad oconnel in particular worries me , he is young and still a lot to learn ,but I feel he is prone to getting caught out and his distribution is poor , but I hope to god I’m wrong about the lad . On such an important day for the club, you would think the usual attention seeking suspects would give it a rest.

Twists, couldn’t agree more, but I think the answer simply has to be call them out as trolls then don’t, ever, reply to or comment on what they say.

Nah, not for me; Lustig is slowing up remarkably! He’s nearly as slow as Rogic (and Neil Lennon in his heyday). Brendan wants us to press high and get back and forwards. Lustig isn’t up to that tonight IMHO. The way janko and Tierney play is precisely what Rodgers was talking about yesterday. Also have to remember it will be hot so Lustig would tire quicker than most. Bitton, Rogic and Toure (because of where they were born and brought up) will cope with the heat – though Rogic will still be his usual “60 minute man”. Janko, Tierney, O’Connell – all fit young lads who will have the energy for the full 90 minutes, but I’d hook O’Connell after 60 and put Sviatchenko in to solidify for the last 30.

The might Moussa on after 60 for Tom Rogic and Paddy for Jaimsie after 75. The tactical switching of Rodgers will confuse them!

Also remember, their 2 goals last week came down the side where the “safe, experienced” defender was. Saidy helped close the door when he came on!

So will I, but I reckon he would do a real job in there. Nir Bitton to hold back more with Brown and Henderson acting as the runner into the space behind the attackers. It would provide more energy and push them back further.

I reckon he will play Tom Rogic because of his skill and ability to read the game and pick a pass.

As far as Janko/Lustig goes, I reckon Lustig sat out on Saturday because Rodgers wanted to give the back 4 game time ahead of tonight. Just my opinion. :>)

  19. So far I can’t not like BR, I think once he’s really settled in we’ll be unstoppable.

However, close to a week later, a comment from Chris Sutton still rankles slightly. He unfairly (imo) made comment to the effect that the performance we were seeing showed how ‘clueless’ RD was. What I think nobody is picking up on is the players BR is being allowed to sign, compared to RD. Was that RD’s fault for not being more strong, minded? We’ll never know but I’d hazard a guess that we’d be seeing better performances than previously if RD was in charge of the team we now have.

I’d rather have BR on board, but I think the apples and oranges comparison was a little unfair.

  20. The DJ on Radio North Angus just announced that Celtic Fans had raised £ 34,000 for Palestine. I `phoned and let him know it was £80,000. As I type, he has just announced the new figure! All done very positively in a ” Shows the good side of football fans ` type of thing.

What did interest me….was watching Liverpool’s defeat to West Ham, it struck me the way that Klopp wants them to play, is similar to how RD wanted to play….coincidence?

Thats why they got beat i think:)

Plus the fact that Klopp can basically sign the players he needs, unlike Ronny.

    Just to clarify.

I have no intention of engaging with the posters I named in my previous post.

I did, however, allow myself a wee chuckle at your plea to limit today’s posts to tonight’s game which you swiftly followed up with 2 posts about a hootenanny and sitting at Portobello reading a book.A touch of irony perhaps?

I do take your message in the spirit i believe it is sent in however.

I rarely post on here these days for a number of reasons but,to be clear, there are only two people who will determine what I post and when I post it on here. One is Paul Brennan and the other isn’t you.

I’m not really in the Liam Henderson fan club yet maybe I’m missing something but his giving away of the penalty on Saturday seemed indicative of a rashness he has that will keep him out of the first team tonight.

    Weeminger,

I’m more interested in which players BR will be allowed to keep for next season, I suspect if RD had a better network and was in as strong a position as BR to get his preferred players, the issue would be the same, would he have been allowed to keep the good ones, NL was not allowed to build a team, the proof of the pudding will be, is BR being allowed to build a team for longer than one or two seasons or will they be sold from under him at the first decent offer ?

  27. I read , on here, quite often that Tom Rogic is slow but is talented enough for that not to be a problem. Against St Johnstone, I saw Tom lolloping up the left wing as slow as you like. Chasing him at a fair gallop was a Saints player. Big Tom`s lollop took him away from the galloping chaser. Hmmm….

I thought O’ Connell made a few mistakes on Sunday and agree his distribution was very suspect. I’m not sure if he was carrying and injury or if he needs a rest… but if he plays tonight he will have to be 100% fit and concentrated.

Sutton needs to let it go with regard to Ronny Deila, last week it was ‘Celtic now have a proper manager’.

However, the manager is the most important figure at the club, and Deila did was not aware of the standard required to take Celtic where we want to be, as well as playing entertaining, attractive football. A number of players with nowhere near the required technical/mental level were signed under his watch.

Rodgers has managed to raise the bar, make us entertaining and progress to within a whisker of the CL in a matter of weeks, without even a full transfer window. Remarkable turnaround.

Ronny is still young and can learn to forge a good managerial career elsewhere. Sutton may not be totally wrong about his tenure at Celtic but I’m not sure why he feels the need to keep banging on about it.

My main point was to stop the in-fighting.

As for my comment about reading a book, that was in response to another poster asking how others pass the time before the big game. How was that not about the matter in hand?

You tried to resurrect the angst on here. Looks like you failed miserably.

  32. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Trad88,

Sutton took a lot of stick from the Celtic support last season for his views on RD, I think he is simply driving home that he thinks he was right and because he has the platform will drive that message home, bit of gloating if you ask me but then we loved that part of his personality when he was on the park its just a bit less palatable when its on the telly.

  33. 2-2 tonight in the Negev Desert.
