  1. Good blog tonight after all the political stuff.

    TET

    Fantastic.

  2. So apart from Kris Commons, Efe Ambrose and Kolo Toure, who else is out of contract at Celtic this summer ?

Hope we are working to keep Patrick Roberts

Looks like we will have competition from those Galactico’s that play in Glasgow to move others on.

Saidy Janko, Scott Allan, Nadir Ciftci, should be moved on

We then have GMS & De Vries who look surplus ?

Should we be keeping Izzy & Gamboa ( both have done well as back ups for us) or giving youth an opportunity in their place ?

We do have numerous youths out on lan all due back as well ?

A bit of work for Brendan and Peter

Not about, but dedicated to, Bobby Sands, at a concert on the day of his death.

The only other death marked likewise by the band was that of JFK.

An interesting insight into the significance of the event.

  4. MIT: You are welcome. A few more to come if I don’t fall asleep:-)

What is more important, finishing the season unbeaten/new points record or giving young/fringe players some game time at the risk of losing games?

Obviously it would great to field younger players and not lose.

  5. I think our biggest problem is going to be moving players on, some may well be quite happy to get their very decent wages every month, some might want to play football and will be happy enough to move on.

I don’t think we will have too much bother getting the players Brendan wants as long as Pedro weighs in, after all, quality doesn’t guarantee you success but it sure helps and this season has proved that.

Looking forward to the game the morra, it won’t be easy.

My mother always said if she gave me the moon I would want the stars as well.

I want the unbeaten treble, new points record and at least 2 youngsters blooded for next season.

    KEEP THE FAITH

  7. Ernie Lynch: Thanks for that, that’s a new one for me.

The Hunger Strikes of ’80/’81 were instrumental in forming my political/social outlook but also developing my taste in music.

    Almore … cheers.

I get the sense that I feel more strongly about this than most, but, personally, I think going undefeated domestically for a full season would be incredible for any team …. really, really memorable … up there with Celtic’s greatest achievements.

so, as much as I would like to see some of the young guys getting a run out, I think we play our best team every game while that remains a possibility

    //////////////////////////////////

The reason that we put up with it is because, Celtic PLC are Old Firm orientated.

At the time of the “honest mistakes” we had a cabinet minister on the PLC and, he came out and said that the club had a dossier on all the cheating by the MIBs but,……he either, didn’t have the cojones to use the dossier or,……the PLC reigned John Reid in, like they did to Neil Lennon when he proved that the MIBs were cheating his team on the pitch.

Even fast forwarding to this season, KT was assaulted twice, once in the first game at Tynecastle, then, more recently at home vs Motherwell.

On both ocassions…..Mr Rodgers had nothing to say.

Only after a week of cyber missiles being flung onto the pitch from an, enraged JUNGLE, did Mr Rodgers complain about the tackle on KT, even then, Mr Rodgers complaint had all the ferocity of a muzzled poodle.

Also, has Mr Rodgers highlighted his concerns for, the health and safety of the Celtic employees at ibrokes last Saturday yet ?

What if the hun / animal who ran onto the pitch had a knife ?

Who is keeping Mr Rodgers quiet and, more importantly, why ?

Cellic managers who wear mibbery-muzzles are p#sh…imho

    Anyway,…….

    Thoughts and Prayers for all

    Supporters of Glasgow Celtic.

    ………off-oot.

  10. Almore, TET, wonderful and even EL who I thought was one of Maggie’s followers.

    ——————-

I think our big earners are out of contract (Commons, Izzy), the rest will be freed and the few stragglers that refuse to move won’t effect the wage bill to much. We are probably at peek club/cash time :o) Though ideally we’d want Kolo to take a big pay cut to coach rather than almost sit on the bench

    ###

Maybe. But what it really highlights is just how poor the rest of the league is. Not Celtic’s fault right enough, and to some extent Celtic are victims too, as it makes the step up to European competition all the more difficult.

  13. TonyRome/MIT: I can’t disagree. Going unbeaten would be magnificent. I just wonder when is it ‘safe’ to give youth a chance?

Back to the music. Moving Hearts were a brilliant, innovative Irish band from the early ’80s with Christy Moore, Donal Lunny, Davy Spillane and Liam Óg O Flynn among its key members:

Arsenal did it in a very strong league (though they lost many games in Europe and the Cups but they are The Invincibles :O)

Ernie … I’m not going to argue with you that Scottish football is of a great standard ….

and I agree that an undefeated season in Scotland 50 years ago, or in Spain today, would count for much more …..

    but ….

but, you can only beat who you play, and across the many countries, it is still fairly rare , so I still think it would be a great accomplishment ….

It will take a few windows for BR to trim the squad and a few more to have his team on the park, Oh how I am looking forward to seeing the final outcome.

Spurs will prob now get rid of Pottichitino a bit like pool did with Brendan, fools thankfully :-)

The new Barca boss will either be Potch or Koeman, interesting that while trying to keep their players from the “big club” vultures they are also looking to jump

  21. Another major event in Ireland in 1981 was the Stardust fire disaster. Forty eight young people died on Valentine’s Day as they attended a local disco. A fire broke out at the disco but many died because the fire escapes were locked. I was only 17 when it happened and too young to attend but I knew some of the victims and met/know several survivors. I live a stone’s throw from the venue. Christy Moore did many gigs in support of the victims and this is his song about the tragedy:

Apologies for not replying sooner. I made my first post the other night about my dad and uncle Tommys trip to Lisbon. I have been genuinely moved and humbled by the response to it. I found the writing of the tale strangely cathartic. The responses underlines for me what a great place this is, and just why I had to get the story out there . The timing to it all is just perfect. I can now travel to Lisbon with fellow CQNers and enjoy the proceedings with like minded friends. Thanks a million guys.

    Every reply greatly appreciated.

A couple of mentions if I may; ( still trying to fathom how this all works )

Corkcelt ; always felt a bond with you as a lurker maybe it’s the mother in law being from Rathmore ( well its nearly Cork ) or the grandmother being a Collins

BlantyreTim ; no I am not a Hun. No where near. I liked the Copland Road one. Made me laugh.

Malorbhoy ; I reside in Jobos parish , but yes, was born in Cresswell Maternity Dumfries. The grandfather may have played for QOS, but we are all Celtic men. To this day QOS have always been the result we look for after the Hoops.

    Upon the whitened wall,

“Bobby Sands was here,” I wrote with fear

    In awful shaky scrawl.

I wrote it low where eyes don’t go

    ‘Twas but to testify,

That I was sane and not to blame

Should here I come to die.

You are on form with your tunes tonight amigo. You are also educating me in music thanks.

  25. Watching cup semi final Paul Lambert says after game with a view to next week (1-5) “they have got better players than us”

Fair enough Paul you done your bit for us and IMO always gave 100% but disappointed to hear that patter.

Mrs TET learned all about Ireland by listening to the likes of Planxty and Christie, strange for an Irishwoman mind you, but in her defence she left afore she was at school, she loved her time there, she would go back in a heartbeat, as I would cos she would, but it wilny happen, we are here for the time being.

Tis strange how music influnences you and how your tastes change, I still love the Irish stuff, it will always be my favourite but am liking the stuff from the south of the States these days, it just feels right for some reason.

I know a few Celtic minded bhoys around St Johnstone , Tommy Wright being Celtic minded would be a big shock to any of them . They all said he was disappointed not to get Pedro’s job at castle greyskull. HH

To all who will be in Lisbon on Sat 27th May. There are three Irish bars likely to be showing the game. I’ve emailed Hennesseys to confirm they will be showing it and will post their reply.

CRC, I’ll take you up on your fiver a goal for wee Shay in the St J game tomorrow.

  30. DD: Christy Moore, Davy Spillane, Donal Lunney, Moving Hearts, Stocktons Wing & Mary Black will introduce you to a range of music that is fabulous. Damien Dempsey continues the folk tradition but there are many venues here that play progressive contemporary music.

TET: I will be out your way late June/July/early August. Would love to meet up.
