Watching Argentina took me back to Fir Park, 2005

1218

Teams can lose their competitive edge quickly.  The Celtic team of 2003-04 were imperious: 25 consecutive league wins, they beat every team in the country, home and away, on the bounce.  Larsson left, of course, but the following season’s problems were deeper than that.

Watching Argentina last night took me straight back to Fir Park, 2005.  A feted team, packed with reputation and talent, simply failed to compete.  Unable to match the industry of Iceland, or the ability of Croatia, they look like they want to return to the safety of club football immediately after the group stages.

Having great players is not enough if they are not sufficiently hungry, and keeping millionaires hungry for the SPFL is a challenge we will forever encounter.  On this front, we must do what we can.  Packed 60,000 seater stadiums help.  I’m sure open-top bus parades help even more.  These things create a sense of occasion and achievement, which is difficult to find elsewhere.

CQN Golf Annual Charity Open

This year’s CQN Open is set for Friday 29 June at the first class Aberdour Golf Club once again.  It is a day of sport, entertainment, Celtic chat and is always good fun.

We’ve the usual round up of all things Celtic by Paul67, and our very funny after dinner speaker is Willie Allan. Then musical entertainment from Scoogz, who you may have seen if you’ve been to Celtic Park entertainment nights. Please contact cqnopen2018@outlook.com if you’d like to attend this fun event.

  1. So, cheerio to Armstrong.

A really talented player but I genuinely think he’s limited by the fact he doesn’t know it or believe it. Been brilliant at times for us, but also been really mediocre.

Don’t subscribe to the Chris Sutton “good riddance” nonsense. We paid £1.5m for him, got 1 excellent and 2 fairly mediocre seasons, and have pocketed £6/£7m for him.

Suspect he will look back in 20 years as Celtic being his career highlight. Good luck to him tho.

Personally,I would wait till next year to sign McGinn. He’ll be on a free, and SB will be one year nearer to retirement.

With an added bonus of a GIRUY to Petrie.

Funny enough an English guy asked me a couple of weeks ago what it was like being an expat in Switzerland, I said “dunno mate I’m an immigrant:))”

Fortunately never had to have much to do with the ole expat scene here.

Not working for Big Pharma or Big Banking:))

He was also amazed when I told him I have an Irish passport in fact he seemed quite offended by that point:))

I’m trying to be a better person honestly I am:))

  4. PUB Grub….GGGRRRRRRRR !

Since ive indulged in a wee bit of ranting this lovely morn, here’s more of my pet hates in pubs.

I don’t like Pubs that sell food even pies etc, as I am getting older, and the reason I say that is because many years ago as a young apprentice I was in a Glasgow Pub at Lunchtime with my tradesman and I had 6 Pints and….wait for 6 McGhees Pies…Yes A Pie with every Pint ! i can still remember the look on my tradesmans face, and also the Barmaid was rather stunned also !

    However,

in more recent years I have been faced with folk who plant themselves down beside me at the bar and/or a table with their Pie and/or Main meal and then proceed to subject me the smell of Brown/Red Sauce which I detest getting squished all over their pie/meal, and also the fact that folk do the same with Vinegar, which I not only detest the smell, but I am Allergic to, without any consideration for people like me.

Since the UNFAIR Smoking Ban in Pubs etc, I have STILL been subjected to the smell of Vinegar, Red/brown Sauce, prawns and Folk STILL Farting in my vicinity etc etc by smokers and NON Smokers alike.

In particular many NON Smokers revel in the Smoking Ban, but yet these same Cretins think nothing in subjecting me to their awful eating and Gas habits………and their weans !

These same Non smokers are disrespecting MY comfort zone, while basking in the Smoking Ban.

before anyone tells me that passive smoking is bad for everyone else’s health, we’ll that MAY be true, but here is a FACT….I have taken many a Girlfriend/Wife of mine ( and also someone else’s wife/girlfriend ), into NUMEROUS Pubs over years BEFORE the Smoking Ban, those women who were NON SMOKERS….NEVER objected to going into a Glasgow Pub/Disco with me for hours, cos there was Folk smoking in them ?

    FACT !

No more mas rants today unless all my horses and fitba teams get Gubbed !

  5. No Girlfriend/Wife of my own ( and other mens wives and girlfriends) NEVER Objected to kissing me cos I was a Smoker ! FACT !

Some may have objected to kissing me cos I am ugly….but that’s feckin different.

Thank feck…yer only Baldy ONCE !

  6. Midfield is not our priority this season. Not against mcginn coming in but would loath to pay over the odds given the fact he is unlikely to get much game time.

Best option is to leave him where he is and get a pre-contract in jan. Worst case match best price offered so long as no more than 1.5 millon + allan (loan or sale)

Rightback is essential as we are so unbalanced at moment.

Was talking Brexit with a hun I grew up with. He became extremely annoyed and agitated when I told him that I was getting my Polish passport. His talk was getting towards racist stuff. Made my apologies and left the saddo to his nonsense.

  8. WYLIE WORK Celtic sign Ben Wylie from Linfield Rangers as ex-Gers striker David Healy hails ‘massive move’ to Hoops

Reports claim the Ballymena youngster will join up with his Hoops team-mates at the start of July after impressing for Linfield’s youth team last season

  9. PUBS & WEANS,

In the 1960’s my Da ( Who live din Scotstoun at that time), would take me to see The Celts in Paradise. This journey would usually start off at The Dolphin Bar, Partick.

My Da, NEVER took me into the Pub, he always left me in the back seat, with a bottle of Ginger and bags of crisps, whilst he and his mates were in the Dolphin swallowing Beers, Vodkas, Whiskey etc, until it was 2.30pm ( Pub closing time), and we would head of to see The Celtic for the 3pm kick off.

I can also remember, some of his mates coming out of the Pub to the car every 20 minutes or so, and handing me MONEY…Before returning to their Bevvy.

My Da got it right..no weans in Pub !

    Great days.

  10. Sign McGinn on a pre contract in January and offer them £100k to deal there and then. Didn’t they put out a statement saying it was time to move on? It would be a nice wee girfuy Rod.

  11. !!Bada Bing!! on

Sam Byram, no thanks, struggled every time i seen him for West Ham, totally out his depth IMO

  12. DELANEYS DUNKY

    No surprise there sadly mate:((

The white folks here from USA and England don’t even seem realise that they are racist most of them:))

    Brainwashed automatons of Corporate World.

Easy living big money earners wanting to say what’s best for the folks back home, feckin’ jokers!!

Bada Bind, where’s the Byram chat from?

I saw him a bit at Leeds and he was excellent. Certainly seems to have lost his way a bit since the move but perhaps BR can get his confidence up and start playing again. There’s a good player in there somewhere.

  14. Declan Rice linked with Palace and Bournemouth. Unless he has Celtic leanings i cant see him coming up here.
