We Shall Not Be Moved

674

Was it really almost 15 years since the only time Celtic beat reigning European champions?  A late goal from Scott McDonald in October 2007 was enough to secure a 2-1 win over Milan in the Champions League.  Two other Scottish clubs had already achieved this (Rangers and Dunfermline, both who beat the 1967 European champions), recording a mark the great Stein sides never did.

The reason I mention this to you is that in the days that followed we were glowing in our new European status.  Then we visited Fir Park.  It wasn’t even Motherwell we faced, it was Gretna, a team from 90 miles south of ML1 who did not have the facilities to compete in the top flight, so travelled the M74 for home games.

Gretna were leading until 85 minutes, when goals from Chris Killen and another late McDonald winner calmed our nerves.

We are now glowing at our great win and performance on Wednesday night.  ‘We shall not be moved’ from the top of the league is the claim.  I heard the same chant from Dingwall on Saturday when Newco took a 2-3 lead; chants don’t win points.  The next game is always the biggest one and for Celtic, the next two, both on the road, are crucially important.

Players are not machines, they cannot climb the mountain every time.  There will be an inevitable fall off in adrenalin at Fir Park.  There are 14 games remaining, seven away from home, every one a cup final in itself.  An acre of Lanarkshire is the stage for our next trophy.  Win and keep belief alive that not by the Hearts, the Hibs or the The Rangers, we shall not be moved!

I met the main Sky Scotland Team (granted years ago but at the time of sevco being born after death of rangers) they were all sevconians and liquidation deniers….

  2. Sky is full of Huns, has been since it was set up, Boyd however is something else, he is a slob, slouches in his seat cannot be rational or impartial, the other night he was ignoring the end of the transfer window, at one point said who cares about Crystal Palace and wanted the conversation to be about Ramsey in total, he was laughed at but tolerated, he should have been removed by the programme director and chased out the door, this guy will do further damage to the appeal of Sky and hell mend them for employing him, they created the problem they need to deal with it

  3. I am sure I read on here this morning about some Tory MP putting forward a motion that Sevco`s world record achievements should be recognised but now I cannot find it. Anyone point me to the post/article ?

Your observation is correct, but I have no coherent answer.

However on the subject can I offer a view on another aspect of Sky’s coverage of our games.

There are a good number of people who lambast Andy Walker together with other ex-Tims working in the media, Packie being another favourite target. I do not subscribe to the awful insult of ‘soup-taker’ that is bandied about. The two in question are employed as impartial co-commentators and are obliged to see the big-picture minus ‘green glasses’ Both were good servants to Celtic, but played in an era when the rewards were a fraction of what they are today. They are earning a living and will be required to adhere to the guidelines set by their employer

I have now watched the replay of Wednesday’s game twice and was struck by the most favourable comments of Andy Walker throughout the entire match. I’m thinking that with the inclusion of McCoist in the gantry putting the ‘slightly-slanted’ Ibrox case, Andy was not under the usual constraints on strict impartiality….just a thought!

  5. I was only highlighting a fact that most Celtic fans would not know. The Huns Captain,is very possibly a Catholic.Means nothing to me,I am Agnostic, but I though it an interesting fact for the Hun bigots to know.

  6. Re the story in the times today. The partisan recklessness of Judges and senior police officers, (interviewing suspects in RFC cufflinks for god sake) has cos the Scottish tax payer millions. the whole rotten death of the club must have cost all of us close to £100ms in lost taxes

    From, appropriately, Yahoo……………………

‘A Glasgow MSP has lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament congratulating Rangers on the club’s 150th anniversary next month.

Sandesh Gulhane, Glasgow Conservative MSP, put down the motion which states the Ibrox club is the “second most successful in the world in terms of trophies won.”

Dr Gulhane, who is also a club doctor for Queen’s Park FC, said in the motion that Rangers was one of the 11 original members of the Scottish league.

He lists the trophies won by the club, noting 55 league titles, 33 Scottish Cups and a record 27 League cups, seven trebles and its one European success, winning the Cup Winners Cup in 1972.

The MSP also praised the club for its charity involvement, supporting the Rangers Charity foundation and its partnerships including with Unicef, Prostate Cancer Charity and Erskine veterans charity.

In the motion, Dr Gulhane said the club also supports: “A range of healthcare training and employability initiatives in Glasgow”.

He mentions: “Bringing sick, disabled and disadvantaged children to Ibrox to attend matches and tours” and efforts to promote vaccinations in Togo and India as well as fundraising for motor neurone charity MND.

Rangers supporting Conservative MSP, Murdo Fraser, tweeted his support for the motion.

He said: “Delighted to add my name to this motion from my Scot Tories colleague, Sandesh Gulhane celebrating 150 years of the world’s 2nd most successful football club.”

It has so far been supported by 13 MSPs including 11 Conservatives, one SNP, Fulton McGregor and one Labour, Glasgow MSP. Paul Sweeney.’

  8. MPs and MSPs will do anything for a vote, but rather than congratulate them they should recognise that the club that claim these titles was liquidated, it is false to claim these titles as won by the same club. It is a political stunt orchestrated within the Tory party in Scotland.Mr Sweeney is covered by my first line.

In addition the tax owed to HMRC and botched prosecutions through incompetence or bias has cost the tax payer multi multi millions, think they should keep their head down, and or congratulate Sevco for handing over Moulton Brown handwash to care homes during the pandemic.

  9. Motherwell are a very poor team at the moment.Cannot see anything but a good win.

Aberdeen,in the same category. Not counting chickens, just the truth.

Win these two game and it will be a major week for us.Raith in the cup,a wee rest for some,a chance for others to come in.Another week towards Kyogos recovery.

    Yup!

  11. Just noticed Re Europa Conf we have some old scores to settle and grudge games with a few :

As well as Jose’s Roma and Brendan’s Leicester there is Rapid Vienna, Partizan B, Copenhagen, Sparta Prague and Mytjland. Of course it would be written in the stars if it was Wim Jansens beloved Feyenoord v Celtic in Tirana on the 25th May.

After Wednesday it really does feel all things are possible.

  12. Reflecting on midweek and our general brilliance; being aware of your opponent , Van Bronck is morphing into Paul Le G , trying to play football , team pushed up the work , no diving or fouling …

Old Big Head , throw your medals away you won them all by cheating … springs to mind …

Looking forward to throwing the kitchen sink at the Well from the get go

  14. Beating the likes of Sparta and Rapid and Roma after Bodo would be great.

The Huns will drop another 6 points in February and lose to Dortmund. That will ease the pressure on us if we can just keep winning this month.

A quadruple then a proper pre season to build toward the Champions League would be perfect. And it would help the co efficient for decent seeing in the groups.

  15. Bada………….correct.

When it started was it not some staunch double surname nugget who managed it?

There might also have been an incongruous Setanat connection?

The only person I can think of who who might have done that is George Galloway.

He has degenerated politically over the years, but his presence in Hollyrood would have been interesting.

  19. Just thought I would chime in on the Boyd debate.

Whilst watching the pregame against thems with James and Stilian answering questions and debating possible match winners from both sides to be fair.

They tried to get their opinions across only to be interupted time after time by Boyd.

This was not really noticed by me as I am used to the guy being very rude but it was the missus who does not know anything about him who commented “why does that guy keep interupting the others, they give him time to speak”.

Like a spoiled child that wants to get his own way and nobody else matters.

He brings no constructive conversation to a game as he has no knowledge about it.

Thought I would share what my wife noticed.

Keep him away from Celtic Park.

Over the past season or so i have noticed that Tavpen, Kent, Goldson, Morelos, Aribo and Barasic have regularly blessed themselves coming onto the park. I think I’m right in saying that I’ve seen Kamara do it too.

The only thing that surprised me with Kent and Goldson was that I hadn’t been aware of them doing it in their first few seasons – which is odd!

I noticed too that green boots seem to be back in vogue with some of them.

Interesting article, but the summary is wrong. The issue isn’t that every Sheriff and their clerk are rabid huns, because that is most certainly not the case, it’s that a rabid hun plod just managed to apply to a rabid hun sheriff for the search warrants. Coincidence? Mmmmm.

  25. Re Motherwell, don’t for get they are very agricultural in their play and of course like all other opponents, we will be playing against 14 men
