Weighty comparison for Ntcham

667

Roy Keane played 13 games for Celtic and the first two of those were memorably for a disastrous performance and result away to Clyde, then what looked like an out of shape performance by the former Ireland international at home to Kilmarnock.

The remaining 11 games of his Celtic career were a lesson on what a great central midfield player looks like.  This was an era when we had recently seen Champions League winner, Paul Lambert, and Neil Lennon, play central mid, both masters of their craft, but Keane fulfilled the role better than anyone I had seen in a Celtic shirt, even as a 34-year-old.

There’s a video of his solitary performance away to Rangers (@FocusOnCeltic), where he asserts himself effortlessly, a lesson on how it should be done.  I watched a similar video of Olivier Ntcham against Newco on Sunday (@CelticBible).

The obvious point should be made.  The Rangers team of 2006 that Keane faced had players like Barry Ferguson and Dado Prso, and had a proper manager, whereas the team Olivier Ntcham faced are not of the same calibre, nor were they at home, but you and me have watched rubbish Oldco/Newco teams over the years without seeing such a complete performance from a Celtic central mid as Olivier’s.

Last month I suggested we drop Olivier and pull Callum McGregor deep, as the former’s passing and effectiveness was off the pace during the qualifiers.  He was one of several subject to bids and contract talks over the summer.  A clear head seems to have elevated the 22-year-old’s game to a new level.

The King is in town, get along to see Henrik and pals do their stuff at Celtic Park tomorrow.

    Same here in America.

Sport has been hijacked by the Military Industrial Complex.

Jingoistic nonsense used by them to justify the very profitable business of war.

Shame their faux patriotism does not lead them to taking care of the veterans who put their lives on the line for the country.

The lack of resources and treatment for veterans in this country is criminal.

Turned into quite a good game.

The pace was slower but some of the passing was excellent.

AY put in a good shift.

GA scored a great equaliser and didn’t break a boy band heartthrob.

    Good day out.

The only poor performance came from the MIB.

  6. Spain 2-1 over England.

Decent game and booth sides have created chances.

Spain’s second goal was a free kick whipped in low at pace with forward making diagonal run to slot home.

Don’t understand why more teams do not use this tactic as it’s a nightmare to defend.

Any variation on our high floaty free kicks would be an improvement.

  7. I don’t come on much now apart from the occasional daft wee picture or quote. But tonight for family duties I am confined to my asylum in the loft.

Occasionally I see a wee mention of a ‘boycott’ suggestion and while I have my own views on such a course of action, I am also aware that this has occasionally surfaced from a sea of dissatisfaction on an annual basis….usually strangely enough around a transfer window.

Anyway, back in 2010, October 24 to be precise, I trudged back from a hammering by you know who at CP and having fallen off my stool in Sharkeys, a still-to-this-day NOT unknown occurrence caused by the rocky stool, I staggered off for a wee get together of equally battered and desolate desperados, an outdoor wake and a night of Thunder, Lightening, Niagara like rain and rebellious scheming unheard of since or before.

It was as close to achieving a full boycott as anyone could imagine…and bhoy did we imagine that night!

What follows is an almost true and accurate account of that night written the following day ….some of it even recorded so quickly was and remains hazy….but the basic facts are indisputable.

    Little tit better ignored.

Based on his many indiscretions on the field he would have Surrendered and then tried kicking yo from behind when you walked away.

Only in the best wee country would an associate of terrorists receive sympathy from the media.

He has always been a morally bankrupt coward.

Hard to predict weather in NY.

Been here almost 30 years and winter has come early and late in that time.

Worn t-shirts in December and North face in October.

When it’s cold here it gets frigid and the wind whipping down the avenues can be brutal.

Best to have a hat to cover ears and something windproof in case.

  15. DD I was just taking a light jacket, but I think I will stick a jumper and hoody in the case as well.

    Cheers bhoys

Watched the match wi Petec in Dumbarton Harp CSC. What a save fae my favourite ever Celtic goalie at the end.

    “Oh oh the Holy Goalie,

    He hates the huns,

    He blessed himself at Ibrox,

And the huns went aff their nut,

He’s aff his feckin rocker and he says,

    God bless the Pope.

Saint John Paul and Artur Boruc.

    The two greatest Polska goalies.

    Forza Polska

  18. Scaniel

My daughter Paula was told recently that she has gorgeous Polish looks and genes by a Polish fitba player in Scotland.

    Forza Polska

  19. DD. Yeah, grandson (his first game btw) said who’s that goalie- that save was insane. Told him that was the big Polish chap you saw arriving at the park. Every bit the gentleman taking lots of selfies ‘n all. Grandson knows his heritage – just wished he had known my Polish father-in-law. Loved him to bits.

  20. DD – I’m sure Paula just can’t help it. It’s in the genes, as I say. Two of my daughters have Polish names but all three have the Polish genes that you speak of.

  21. Spain when attacking are aided by Englands inability to hold a line. The Spanish meanwhile have twice nullified good English attacks by holding the line and getting offside called correctly.

With the exception of Tony Adams and Arsenal i can’t think of any Brittish sides who were/are great exponents of this?

Would be interested to know if Spain are coached to hold line as a unit or do they have a designated leader on the field to call and organize.?

  22. DAVID66-getting my Vegas and NY mixed up?.Murder with names but I’m sure that’s where we stayed, the wife away to shanghai shuffle with the girls for the home leg of hen weekend. So can’t ask her?If it is your right in the mix.Not far from Macy’s ?
