What your money did

1537

In recent weeks hundreds of you have contributed to our Mary’s Meals project to build a school kitchen in Malawi for the 1221 pupils who are enrolled at the Kholoni Primary School in Mchinii, and then for the 746 pupils at St Joseph’s Primary in Kasungu.

The £7000 required for the first school reached Mary’s Meals some weeks ago and the building was opened and serving meals yesterday.

Here it is:

We have a lot to do today but there is an excellent chance that the £7000 required for St Joseph’s will be raised and in Mary’s Meals account before 470 of us sit down in the Kerrydale Suite for the CQteN St Patrick’s Day dinner tonight.

Here’s what you’ve done.  You have funded two facilities which between them will feed 1967 children, all of whom live below the UN measure of absolute poverty, in the 17th poorest country in the world.

Most days, for almost all children, this will be their main meal, it will often be their only meal.  As a result, they will attend school in greater numbers, 30% greater, if they are an average Mary’s Meals, Malawi, school.  They will gain a better education and have better opportunities in life.  They will build stronger bodies, more able to resist infection.  Child mortality will fall.

The spirit of Brother Walfrid, of Celtic, is alive within you.  You can get involved here.

See you at the party!

Seville, The Celtic Movement, launches tonight.

“CNN reported that on the day before the game 3% of the earth’s flying population were all headed for Seville and were sporting a Celtic scarf – a statistic that no sector of industry could ignore and which would change the policy of many airlines as a result.”

There’s a big game on tonight and there you all are eating n drinking and making merry instead of being at Rugby Park. Call yourselves Celtic supporters? Funny way of showing it.

Ach well, seeing as you are there, have a great time each and every one of you. You are all part of a great phenomenon and I wish I could be there too, but hopefully I can make CQN20.

  9. Warning…. Boring ‘I cant be there tonight post…’

Really proud of what you have all achieved for the Mary’s Meals project. I’m sure more will be raised tonight the CQNTEM Bampotfest. Really sorry I can’t be there. Bought my tickets ages ago but other things have got tin the way. I’ve sent two brothers to make sure you all behave.

Haven’t posted much recently, but have been reading this blog since the very early days and it never ceases to amaze me how much CQN has impacted Celtic, Celtic supporters, the deid club and so many other just causes. If I remember correctly the point of the blog was to provide balance to an unbalanced reporting of Celtic. Wow. It worked. It really has transformed the way I and many others see Celtic.

Hope you all have a brilliant time tonight. Hebcelt, look after the brothers and make sure they spend!

Thanks Paul and all you bampots out there.

    Hail Hail.

  10. Sad to say, wind is howling down here. Hope it’s better in Kilmarnock. Otherwise, might be a bit of a lottery.

I see, after all his glib support to those taking over thon deid team, Ally is sitting on the fence when it comes to endorsing the glib liar.

  11. Congrats to all involved in the Mary’s Meals project; shows what the Celtic community is all about. Looking forward to seing Liam Henderson tonight; great to see a youngster get a chance

    Charity should be anonymous.

As everyone here , apart from one or two, uses a nom de plume, I reckon that fulfils the anonymity criteria.

Might’ve a good idea to shut the shop tonight as, it seems, there are some footpads and vagabonds around!

  13. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

Can’t wait for kick-off. Delighted to see that young Liam Henderson is playing. He just needs to imagine that he’s up against Wesley Schneiders and treat Killie with the same distain.

Hope you all enjoy the CQteN tonight!

  14. art of war….am i not allowed my opionion.at least one other poster agreed with me….but again he is not in the clique either.no im not a hun either.

Cheers for the reminder about the lottery. £107m Euromillions tonight..

  17. Looking forward to young Henderson getting a game. Balde waits again. I wonder how his confidence is these days.

  18. This is actually been lauded on FF..scary stuff in 2014

The inexorable rise of the Scottish catholic.

There was a time when it suited the purposes of the catholic clergy in Scotland to portray its flock as the downtrodden, the poor and the disadvantaged.

How times have changed. Now Roman Catholics occupy a disproportionate number of key positions where power really lies.

A cursory glance of Scotland’s judiciary, business leaders and politicians will reveal that many names have their antecedents in southern Ireland rather than Caledonia. And yet the suspicion still exists (in the mind of the catholic church anyway) that catholics continue to suffer religious intolerance and racial discrimination.

The facts simply do not add up. Whereas fifty years ago one might have been able to make that case in the west of Scotland, today any such claims would be risible. The culture of victimhood more than anything one might argue is what is holding the catholic ‘community’ back in Scotland.

Scotland is an odd place where increasingly odd things happen, a country on the eve of a crucial independence vote and yet an increasingly hostile majority do not wish to be separated from their southern brethern.

Scotland is also odd when trying to take the political pulse at this critical moment. Forget the words of sociologists, political pundits and the commentators, to find out what is happening in Scotland, simply look at the two biggest football clubs in the land.

Despite a few local difficulties Glasgow Rangers remain without question the nation’s biggest club. Their fan base alone ensures that only a madman would question this simple proposition. By nature and character, Rangers IS a Scottish institution. Celtic on the other hand represents another, somewhat different ‘tradition’, where allegiance to a foreign pontiff and a land not too far away still remain strong.

And here is where it gets confusing….. Given their historical fear of the SNP, one might have thought that the paranoid and confused would eschew Alex Salmond’s entreaties. Far from it, Celtic supporters are actively courting the SNP and paradoxically attempting to make themselves more Scottish than the indigenous Scots!

It is has been stated that Rangers are the Scottish establishment team. Whereas their is no doubting Rangers size, tradition and history, when one looks at where the levers of power now lie, Rangers are far from the establishment club.

The rise of Peter Lawwell from humble executive to influential European football committee member, could serve as an excellent metaphor for the rise of many of his co-religionaries. By hook and by crook, Lawwell has climbed the greasy pole with consummate ease and a lot of assistance. He (and by definition his club) have wrested power by increments from weak and indifferent opponents. Furthermore, he has taken full advantage of his biggest rivals’ problems to consolidate his club’s control over Scottish football.

The Commonwealth games will feature Celtic Park as the centre piece of its activities, ably assisted by local politicians in the city, Lawwell has secured yet another financial advantage over his opponents.

It’s clear that when we discuss Celtic, it isn’t just about football but something more sinister. Corrupt land deals, undeclared assets, knock down prices for prime land, etc…………

One shudders to think what might become of genuine democracy were the SNP to prevail. The behaviour of Celtic football club gives you an insight into the future not so brave world. A vote for the SNP is a vote for an alien system and corruption. Do the right thing and vote for the good guys

  19. John O’Neil, Amido needs a decent run of games – we can’t give him 5 mins here and there and then judge him

  20. Henderson gave a very good account of himself in the Turkish tourney. Looking forward to seeing him again tonight. COYBIG!

You are of course entitled to your opinion.

    Here’s mine.

Your post was churlish. Not really sure that there’s much difference between anonymous posters going to a charity related dinner and an anonymous poster claiming they do plenty of charity work.

FWIW I’m not one of the “clique“. I wouldn’t know any CQn poster – bar one – if he/ she ran up and kicked me.

He has potential. Does he play any games with other Celtic teams? I want the guy to prosper but he needs games. Regards to you.

  23. Some slightly grating sentiment on here tonight about charity and raising money and publicity. Don’t want to get involved except to say that I am proud to be a Celtic supporter and never more so than tonight when so many
