When clubs go bad

775

Keep an eye on what’s happening at Leeds United.  The club is under offer from ‘colourful’ Italian, Massimo Cellino, who will become owner if the Football League decide that his conviction for defrauding Italian tax authorities is not sufficient to make him an inappropriate person to control a football club.

If Cellino is declared unsuitable by authorities in England I am told to expect a coordinated media campaign to have people with similar backgrounds hounded out of the game here.  The is a dirty war underway for control of one of Scotland’s newer clubs.

Leeds have historically been a club which it’s difficult to feel sympathy for but I genuinely feel for their fans, who suffered for the lack of a director to say ‘No more money’ amid the clamour to reach ‘the next level’, whatever that was at the time.

Now they are a massive club but lose circa £15m per year, making it impossible for them to compete with clubs far smaller than them.  Being subject to the attention of convicts is a direct consequence.

On a completely unrelated matter, I read Phil Mac Giolla Bhain today use the word “Wonga” in relation to Newco Rangers’ recent attempts to finance.  That was exactly the word used to me to describe a potential financer who is set to meet the club tomorrow. The campaign to oust the club’s current owners is significantly undermining their ability to do their jobs.

Well done to Big Yogi and the Highlanders for their unconventional route to the League Cup Final.  It must have been an absolute sickener for Hearts fans to lose to nine men.  Absolute.  Utter. Sickener.  Oh well.

I read Barcelona lost on Saturday for only the fifth time when Messi had scored.  Can anyone name another occasion?

A Durham striked me as one of those loud mouth English guys you meet on holiday who slates everything foreign, wears UJ shorts and goes to the red lion every night for his dinner.

A clown of a man who seems to have a dislike for Celtic. I have said here before though that Talksport have adopted a stance over the last couple of years with sensationalism. The publicity they are getting by having Collymore for instance on their channel and guys like Durham is great for the listeners and people contacting the show. If everyone was nice about everybody nobody would call. Alan Brazil is pro Celtic and this guy balances it up. It’s clever broadcasting to be honest but I have gone right off Talksport.

The guy clearly does not like us. Sort of makes me happy. He is exactly the type of clown I don’t want anywhere near Paradise.

I tend to agree. I talk Scotland up all the time. There are a minority of backward people here but the majority are decent. The media have to take a lot of the blame for the treatement our manager gets. I spend a lot of my time asking people who are not Celtic fans to justify their hatred of Neil Lennon, the GB, Celtic fans in genral and Catholics. Most can’t do it and when I do it on Facebook there are lots of people with either no interest in football or just decent sorts from their friends list I don’t know who absolutely slate them.

There is a real lack of inteligence and education on their subject matter. The Sevco fans are clever they have plenty slogans. WATP, BJK, We don’t do walking away, We welcome the chase, etc. All that dross is childish and is replicated by every fan who despises us. My favourite they spout when we lose is ‘Always cheated never defeated’ I chuckle at that. I find the Hearts fans currently are the worst but then I know a lot of Jambos. I can;t keep my mouth shut tho. I always get involved. Mrs LB actually sees some of them and says don’t get involved. Usually too late I am straight in there. Show these people up for what they are.

The majority of Scotland don’t want it. We want to live in a great society not a hate culture.

It is an amazingly beautiful country and Glasgow can be great fun but I very much challenge you 10:1 ratio of bigots. By loud-mouthed bigots, maybe but the more sinister, underlying bigotry is much closer than that.

    Game on?

  11. There vast swathes of the population in Scotland that are never touched by sectarian issues. Its just not part of their lives and most dont really understand that its still going on. They dismiss it as being football banter or something from the distant past thats practically died out and doesnt impact on their daily lives at all. We live in a parallell world that is outside their comprehension.

  12. BRTH – unless it’s happened in the last 15 minutes I’m not sure. Official stock exchange site, livecharts and also shareprice all stating 1750 shares traded today.

I think you are talking of the obvious idiots and, if so, I agree wholeheartedly. I am suggesting that insidious bigotry is more powerful and effective than ignorant ramblings.

Big Nan used a phrase the other day ” anticipatory compliance”. That is what I am talking of and it seeps through The Establishment of Scotland.

For what it`s worth, I live in Arbroath through choice and am able to enjoy the jewels that Scotland offers but , having lived in England for a long time after being born and bred in Glasgow, I might be more aware of the matter of which I speak than are those who might have become desensitised to it.

In conclusion, the Establishment Scotland might not be to my liking but I can certainly cope with it and still enjoy living here. So much so, in fact, that I am off out on the bike now to enjoy some of what it offers 0:-)

  19. I see the letter ‘H’ is now offensive in Scotland, what kind of place do we live in when a letter offends some or is it just when a certain kind of person displays it ?

    One Scotland

Many cultures ( unless your a catholic of Irish decent apparently )

  20. Looks like Sevco’s demise is imminent. Will it be administration followed by liquidation . Hopefully!

By the time they go into administration there will obviously be no cash left in the till and I suspect no assets that can be sold quickle (CW still contesting Ibrox and Murray Park). So who is going to want to carry out the administration ?

Duff and phelps made £2-3£m out of the first administration but they knew that cash was available.

This time there is no cash so why would anyone take it on knowing they may not be able to recoup their fees out of the remaining assets. This would be a major amount of work for any administrator.

Also unless someone out there is willing to pump a substantial amount of their own money in then don’t see how Sevco 2 can survive.

Seem to remember Adrian Durham saying a few years ago he either went to university in Glasgow or worked there early in his career – he has obviously been turned to the dark side then.

Remember when he had a full night dedicated to the poppy protest a guy from Belfast called up – he must have been a shinner or a graduate of the University of long kesh – for 5 minutes he wouldn’t let Durham interupt him and he took him to the cleaners with a very informed and rational argument delivered with the confidence of a politican (bit like Gerry Kelly to the fleggers on Nolan)- seem to remember Ian Wright backing the guy up too !!!!!!!

He knows if he pushes our buttons he can get 2 or 3 days of calls given the size of our support – ignore him he’s an idiot

Surprising given he’s from East Belfast but then he’s used to the experience of the Linfield scumbags who are worse than their cousins from Govan !

Murray is a football fan and he likes fans who just love their team and appreciate good football & being a massive Liverpool fan he recognises the simlarities between Celtic and Liverpool

I have believed right from the time Sir David Murray sold out to Whyte they have been working to an Agenda and are doing so at the present time.Glasgow Rangers were crippled with debts and the debts were holding them back like an anchor holds back a boat .So a plan was hatched to rid them of there debt without ever paying it back and an Agenda was set up.Initialy many thought it would be the end for Glasgow Rangers and there followers but celebrations were proved to be premature. As Glasgow Rangers were replaced by the Rangers and still debts for the newco were riseing and once again they had no intention of paying them why should they ? they had got away with it once and they could do it again. We now hear folk saying it is inevitable that the Rangers will be liquidated and I say its part of the Agenda if they are docked 25 points they will still be promoted and again will be debt free and nearer there goal of the SPL while we sit and watch the cheating taking place without a challenge. H.H.
