When media collaborate with power you have problems

1190

A journalist, banned by Celtic, attacked the club in the Daily Record today, suggesting the SFA chief exec Stuart Regan should have told Peter Lawwell to ‘wind his neck in’ and ‘remind him of his duty to the game’ after he wrote asking for clarification after Sunday’s game.

The hyperbole was raised to the extent the notion “Lawwell dragged our game back into a very dark place – somewhere dangerously close to disrepute” was put into hundreds of thousands of hands today.

A dark place, close to disrepute?  For writing a letter asking for clarification? Sounds to me like the know the trouble Peter Lawwell is causing to the vested interests at Hampden and they want him stopped.

By remarkable coincidence, this happens to be the same journo who wrote the puff piece for SFA president, Campbell ‘What school did you go to?’ Ogilvie for writing to Uefa demanding a referee was demoted (while circumventing due process) and asking for a player to be banned.

No mention of winding a neck in or duty to the game for a vastly farther reaching letter.

The same paper gives a platform to Barry ‘EBT’ Ferguson to level wholly inaccurate accusations against Celtic:

“By questioning the reasoning behind [the failure to award a penalty]in the name of their supporters, they were nodding towards all manner of hoary old conspiracy theories.”

Conspiracy you say, Barry?  Who mentioned conspiracy?  An explanation that the standard of refereeing is not good enough and that having 6 officials at Hampden hindered good decision making didn’t occur to you?

Some people are quick to deny conspiracies when a far less controversial response is available.

A concerted campaign has run for days now to ensure that Celtic cannot ask questions without being demonised.  When the media demonise those who question authority we are in a very dark place indeed.

This is intolerable.  It would not happen in England, where the breadth of media is wide enough to escape narrow seams of authority.  It doesn’t matter if it is the government, the Church, the police, big business or sport, if media collaborate with power, you have problems.

Some of it comes from people perhaps bitter that Celtic called them out and banned them, some from those unable to find perspective or consistency between writing about a Campbell Ogilvie letter and a Peter Lawwell letter.  All of them are time-served opinion formers who make money from Celtic’s actions.

We are the last superpower in the game, survivors in the battle of the ages.  This antagonism isn’t going away.  Not until their grandchildren are in place, anyway.

Clubs need to write letters when improvement is needed.  I hear estimates that income to Celtic from winning the Scottish Cup would have been in the region of £1m.  Football is big business and processes and resources need to as good as they possibly can be. If they are not, the very least you can do is ask for improvement.

On Meekings appeal yesterday….

The player’s appeal was right to be upheld, the case should never have been put before the SFA panel in the first place.  The referee Steven McLean saw the incident.  That was not disputed.  He asked his assistant for his opinion.  That was not disputed either.

Meekings representatives pointed out at the hearing that officials are not allowed to re-referee a game after watching TV.  This is a central tenant of the game and was accepted by the judicial panel.

Retrospective action is only allowed for incidents which referees did not see.  It is not permitted for referees to reconsider an incident he saw.  It is blindingly embarrassing to our game that the SFA didn’t know the rules well enough before taking this action.  I hear there was incredulity at Celtic when they heard Meekings was banned in the first place.

…… and you wonder why Celtic write letters.

Last call for the Ben Nevis Huddle……..

  1. From the Judicial Panel’s statement:

“The panel considered that as the incident (but not the actual alleged sending-off offence of handball) had been seen by one or more of the officials it was not entitled to consider the matter further.”

How could you possibly see the incident but nit the “alleged” handball”? That was the bloody incident!

The irony is that Barry Ferguson and all the other players or ex employees

of dead club that SMSM have on speed dial, helped fuel the conspiracy, and consequently it helped lead to their demise, in the attempted cover up, which ran since Moonbeams under wrote 50m in shares.

A cover up that was exposed on CQN long before they were even aware that their club was heading towards upwardly facing nipple.

With regard to Celtic’s role in the demise of Rainjurs that’s where Celtic fans disagree, and as for buying tickets I still cling to the hope that the Sevco fiasco will end like Rainjurs.

If we’re doing conspiracies let’s do ‘the same club’ one – that’s the daddy of them all.

I would love it, really love it, if the SFA handed PL and Celtic a disrepute charge.

The resultant contents of the huge can of worms would keep the Scottish Anglers Association,( if there is one), going for a year in bait.

Thanks for that link. Yesterday afternoon the BBC, Roddy Forsyth and Chris McLaughlin, both on Radio 5, specifically used the phrase “honest mistake” in relation to the Judicial Panel’ decision re Josh Meekings. The STV report suggests something totally different regarding the rationale for the JP decision. Curiouser and curiouser

A repost from last night, only my opinion of course and I know some don’t agree, but something needs to be done by our club to stand up for our fans.

My season ticket will be automatically renewed and I look forward to supporting my team next season. However, I stopped going to away games, I will never step foot in Ibrokes again,Ever. I have not been to Hampden for a few years and doubt if I will again.

My last cup game at Celtic Park was v Raith Rovers mainly because of their chairman, Turnbull Hutton. RIP, a man who stood outside Hampden and told it like it was, especially to those in denial, that the SFA & Scottish Football was corrupt. The latest cheating and lies from the masons is just another in a long line of the corruption in our game. Many people say ” that is the most blatant I have ever saw “, I say it, we all say it, but really it is just the latest.

The Masonic referee on Sunday had a job to do and he did his job, namely, Halt the treble.

On this occasion though, McLean, Muir, and the rest made a total balls up, the evidence is there for all to see. The SFA have tied themselves up in knots trying to wriggle out of another farce. Meanwhile the compliant SMSM spin it in their usual way to ridicule Celtic Football Club. What the outcome of this will be, I don’t know, but this is the time Now. It is the time for our club to stand up for themselves, stand up for their supporters, stand up like the late Turnbull Hutton stood up, Tell them, they are corrupt. What can we do ?

Personally I would ban the hacks, we all know who they are, we don’t want them, we don’t need them. I would hope to have Celtic Park full for all our home games, boycott away cup games and stuff the SFA. How Campbell Ogilvie is still in charge, beats me.

Scottish Football is run by masons for the benefit of a team who self destructed, and are now a tribute act. They are truly hurting Huns, and they can’t hide it. You only had to look at the face of McLean shouting at VVD and his contempt towards the Celtic man. When / if Sevco return it will only get worse. For the sake of any future for Scottish Football we need to get rid the corrupt liars and cheats. Only then we could go back to supporting our team at other grounds to spread some much needed income to decent clubs trying to live within their means and hopefully improve the game as a whole.

Thoughts and prayers with you all today. God rest her soul.

  11. PeteC, I would rather we played the game in a league where we can trust the judgement, and frankly, the competency of officialdom.

It isn’t just that they are biased, that has been the case all of our lives.

It’s that they are also entirely incompetent.

The footballing authorities are not fit for purpose, in any way.

I’d rather play in any league but this.

I don’t know if this has been posted earlier, but did anyone see the article in the DR (I read it online)It was regarding Andre Blackman who was with us,The headline says, wait for it “Celtic bad boy steals £1225 coat from Harrads in London”ffs he plays for Blackpool and amongst his other clubs has been ICT.Absolutely despicable from this rag.No lead about ICT bad boy.

I cannot believe we still have Celtic supporters buying this rag.As for baway total bigoted k/head.HH

  14. We as a club and support stand alone and that’s the way I like it.

We are the top dogs in Scotland and will be for the foreseeable future and the rest don’t like it, when we win the league ( hopefully at aberdeen) we need to celebrate it like its the biggest yet and rub it right in to the rest.

The SFA under hure pressure can help exonorate (sp) McLean and Muir. What did Muir say to McLean during the incident? If it was ‘no penalty’,’hit his face’ etc ,let’s hear the tape.Very simple, unless there is something to hide of course….

The two Edinburgh ladies were not slow in speaking out over Fixturegate.

They would be two strong partners in an alliance for change at Hampden.

  17. Well I certainly don’t need anyone one from any msm social or public, to tell me it’s a stitch up, it’s as rotten as a skunks arse, and getting worse by the day.

Get them all TF the lot of them are toxic.

  18. Doc,

There are cracking Referees in Scotland who have no chance of making it, whilst the Cabal in situ remain there. The corruption really does ma heid in.

I don’t beileve the officials mics are recorded, that’s what I was told by a ref, they are just a communication device during the match and not used to review things after the fact.

Sometimes they don’t even work properly, with interference etc.

  20. Zico maltese Bhoy,……Honestly man,i just saw that article minutes ago….un frikken real…….Glad i dont buy it…..

  21. I said they two days ago, …let’s hear the tape that will stop it all, no allegations no conspiracy , no agendas, no finger pointing, no name calling, let’s hear the tape, .

We won’t , because it’s toxic and tells the truth it has to or we would have heard it long before now, absolutely disgusted at all of this, leaves a very bad taste in our game by the so called leaders, when there is no trust , in any form of life, then the thing is broken for good, and changes MUST happen.

I have been a bit behind in my CQN reading this week, so a few random thoughts…..

    1. Belated condolences to Tom.

    2. Is DBBIA recovered? I saw the new blonde Christina Hendricks on TV last night, and was worried about that old DBBIA’s heart might not have survived the shock …

    3. Who was banned? Was it published/announced by Celtic? If not, why not? If there had been a ban, it should have been published, along with the reasons for the banning. It would lay down a marker to the rest of them, plus it would let the fans know that the Club is actually doing something.

Justice can not be fully done if it is not seen to be done.

    4. Mea Culpa @ 12:51 on 24 April, 2015: “In terms of bringing the game into disrepute, if it were a marathon Ogilvie, Doncaster & Regan have reached the home stretch and Lawell is still on the starting line.”

On one level you are obviously correct. But from another perspective, I am not certain. It is the old frog and scorpion story. A scorpion does what it does because it is a scorpion – that is its nature. SFA/SPFL/Sevco … we know what they are all about …do we really expect them to change? Not unless they are forced to. And that has to be done by Celtic. But are the people that are running are club doing that?

The people that run our club have been entrusted with a history and a legacy… and their conduct at all times should reflect that legacy. When Brother Walfrid saw a wrong (the poor and hungry in the East End), he didn’t pretend the problem didn’t exist …. he spoke up and did something about it. He didn’t say, its an instiutional problem, and I dont want to risk my church’s position by upsetting the powers that be …. and he didn’t say, it will cost too much, and effect my bottom line and/or bonus. No, he saw a problem, and he did something about it.

Now, PL/the Board may not have ‘said’ those things, but actions (or inactions) speak louder than words.

Its time our Board did less talking about our history and legacy, and started to live up to the example set by our founding father.

125 years of unbroken history … it should be more than a marketing slogan to sell tickets.

So, what is worse ….The sevconians who are too blinded by hatred to realize they have a problem, or those who see the problem, and are charged with safeguarding our club and supporters, but fail to act?

So we will never know why Muir was screaming “hands hands” at mclean down his mouth piece.

  25. What Celtic are up against is not individuals. They are simply the reflection of a culture. An immoral unethical culture at that.

Even when caught in suspicious circumstances the culture’s first thought is to defend itself using lack of proof and rulings based on that lack of proof to maintain the culture.

But what if it can be proved beyond reasonable doubt that the culture has deliberately kept proof from those seeking it?

Art66 of UEFA FFP asks that the licensor PROVE it has no overdue payable.

The Harper McLeod investigation asked for all documents that prove no avoidance of the rules. What if evidence that proved there was illegal avoidance taking place was held back by that culture?

Suspicions are all well and good and well founded but unless you can prove to a culture that depends on lack of proof as it’s first line of defense you are pissing in the wind.

What is going on now is a desperate attempt to undermine the proof because it threatens the culture. That means though that proof exists…….

  27. “Retrospective action is only allowed for incidents which referees did not see”.

So why was Boerrigter red-carded and banned retrospectively? The referee saw the incident and deemed it a penalty. On Sunday the referee saw the incident and deemed it not a penalty.

The former compliance officer has said Meekings should be banned. It seems clear-cut to me too. What’s the difference between cheating to score a goal and cheating to prevent a goal?

In Scotland it’s one rule for Celtic and another rule for everyone else.
