Who we are and our values

1097

For some months now, a CQN’er and academic has prepared a project to identify who we, the Celtic support, are in 2014, what our views are, where we come from and how closely our objectives align with the Club.

The project takes the form of a questionnaire, which asks some personal questions, like your political leanings, intentions for the Referendum, faith, education and ethnic heritage.  No sign-up is involved and no identifying information is available.

There are also questions on the Offensive Behaviour Act, as well as the Club’s response to Resolution 12, The Green Brigade and the Living Wage.

The objective is to determine why you support Celtic and whether these reasons are being recognised and served.

I know Celtic have held similar surveys in the past but I’m not aware of a recent academic survey into these questions.  The survey will close on Friday 26th September and results will be reported thereafter.

As with all surveys, the more people who participate the more reflective the results will be, so please 10 minutes to get involved.  You’ll find the survey here.

If you have any questions for the author in relation to the survey please email cqn.survey@orange.fr

Thanks.

Pertaining to the above are allegations made about Aleks Tonev over the weekend.

It’s difficult to see where this one goes if the player says “I didn’t say that” without corroboration either way.  Despite this, the allegation is damaging to Celtic, and to the player, so an internal and public reaction is needed to reiterate the values of the club.

Celtic’s induction process should be clear what is and is not acceptable.

    Rio Ferdinand blasts David Moyes for banning chips at Man United

    ESPN FC’s Paul Mariner and Craig Burley bash Rio Ferdinand’s criticism of David Moyes.

    Rio Ferdinand has highlighted a series of mistakes which he believes David Moyes made during his dismal Manchester United tenure — starting with the banning of chips the night before matches.

    – Ferdinand blasts Moyes as ’embarrassing’

    The Queens Park Rangers defender, who endured an unhappy return to Old Trafford on Sunday as his side were thrashed 4-0 by his former employers, has discussed what happened during Moyes’ turbulent 10 months in charge.

    In his autobiography “#2Sides,” which is being serialised by The Sun, the 35-year-old centre-back revealed the players were confused by mixed messages from Moyes, frustrated by his mentality and angered by changes in routine, such as the chips being taken away.

    He said: “It’s not something to go to the barricades over [the chips]. But all the lads were p—– off. And guess what happened after Moyes left and Ryan Giggs took over?

    “Moyes has been gone about 20 minutes, we’re on the bikes warming up for the first training session and one of the lads says: ‘You know what? We’ve got to get on to Giggsy. We’ve got to get him to get us our f—— chips back.'”

    Ferdinand says he was excited to work with Moyes when he first took over from Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, but decided it was time to walk away from Old Trafford when he was dropped for United’s crunch Champions League clash with Bayern Munich earlier this year.

  2. Ref the big debate…..yip the CQN survey…… I would have liked to have seen a more nuanced set of questions ref the demise of the FOD and their constant reincarnation:

    1. Have Celtic been adversely affected by the demise of the FOD in a financial sense? Yes

    2. Should Celtic accept that their business model depends on a ‘strong sevco’? No

    3. Do you miss the absence of Glasgow derbies versus the FOD? No

    4. Can celtic achieve your ambitions for the club within the context of Scottish football? No

    5. What ‘level’ should celtic aspire toon a regular basis?

    A). Compete for the CL

    B). Compete for CL last 16 qualification.

    C). Competitive EL team.

    D). No particular European aspirations/expectations?

    The answer’s B by the way!

    Scepovic showed a bit but not loads.

    Must confess I initially thought he was everywhere until I noticed that he and Tonev’s look very similar and I was conflating the two!!

    Made some nice wee angular runs looking for an early/1st time ball that didn’t come cos (IMHO and contrary to others on here) KC took too many touches and slowed the moves up.

    Think he could be a player once the understanding develops.

    Thanks! It’ll take time for him to adjust (we’ve said that about a lot of players, haven’t we?)

    I think we should just play Stokes on Thurs night then. I feel much more comfortable shouting and moaning at him (not really – this is a joke, Ronny, please don’t play him)

  6. davidopoulos

    Your bit in brackets is right though to be as fair as I can be, he’s at least looked liked he’s tried a bit in the last couple of games he played.

    Aff oot.

    Laters. Question – did jimmy Sanderson really leave us? I often feel his spirit when I read some posters.

    No currency union agreement and if they will have us it will take 5 or more years to join the EU.

    With so much economic uncertainty to come businesses will look to invest elsewhere, house prices will fall, food prices will likely increase & job growth will diminish. We are slowly coming out of the biggest recession in a generation & I for one don’t want to be responsible for creating another economic disaster.

    A Yes vote would mean taking an enormous leap of faith basically the biggest punt in our history. Perhaps a Yes vote would make more sense in the future but for now it’s just too risky. Separation will make us weaker, while staying together with increased powers, can still give us a unique opportunity to shape our own future.

    Vote No Thanks!

    Another raw nerve! Tzzzzzzzz.

    Any chance you can provide detail of the VOW of empty promises?

    Go on. Just one piece of policy info would be good.

    You might need to ask Gorgon B to make it up on the hoof before Jim Murphy advises English WM backbencher’s might not let it pass.

    When you find the vows written down “officially” let me know.

    Head hand forehead shaking wondering at the shear red face of THE VOW!

  9. On holiday in Dubai at the moment as we gather around the pool bar the chat inevitably turns to independence with most of the English very keen to find out how I voted and how we Scots will vote overall. Generally the feeling is one of amazement that we would even consider leaving the Union. Interestingly there are 12 scots who have come and gone over the last few days from different parts of Scotland and various walks of life from tradesmen to a couple of small business owners so far the vote stands at 8 yes 3 no and one undecided of the 8 yes 6 have already voted through the postal system including me and mrs MB

  10. Big Cup Winners

    What would you call someone who falls for an unqualified lack of detail vow of promises unratified by WM while back bench MP’s are stating they will not agree to Scotland getting more powers and William Hague announcing during his stint in PM’s QT that the promises were just election campaign tools? Would you call such people clever?

    I termed no one stupid. But there is a difference between stupid and foolish!

  11. Moonbeams WD. Wee Oscar’s our Bhoy and Kano’s our mhan.,

    How about the currency union? Everyone says it’s a no go but the Yes campaign maintains they alone are right.

    Or automatic EU entry. Everyone says it’s a no go but the Yes campaign maintains they alone are right.

    Or an oil fund. Everyone says it’s a no go but the Yes campaign maintains they alone are right.

    See the pattern here?

  12. Cameron’s speech has made all the difference.

    With a wee bit from the White House and the Queen.

    Add this to the older voters.

    And the answer is No.

    No country in the world would have the balls to vote Yes after that level of intervention.

  13. I MWD vow to break into the Celtic first team and become top goal scorer and player of the year in season 2015-2016.

    I promise the Celtic scouts are looking at me and Ronny thinks I am the best striker he has ever seen.

    I promise Peter Lawell has agreed to pay me £25,000 per week plus a bonus for every goal scored.

    I promise to kiss the badge every time I score.

    Voting in either direction on thus will entail the huge leap of faith you mention.

    My levels of faith in Messrs Cameron, milliband, et al to be willing and ABLE to deliver are vanishingly low.

    So presumably we are to deduce that Scots who chose Dubai as a holiday destination are more likely to vote yes.

    When Celtic qualify for the CL the main stream Scottish media rarely discuss the cash ‘windfall’ we receive, and when pushed there’s reluctant figure sometimes 8 or 9 million usually mentioned.

    Now we’re in the EL I see we’ve suddenly lost 19million.

    How does that work?

    3 swift uses of the term ‘everyone’ in such a loose fashion seriously undermines what are undoubtedly vital issues that as yet have no 100% clear cut answer.

    Everyone thinks so? Too sweeping.

    As for certainty. It doesn’t exist in our troubled world and certainly not within the gerbil arena that will be uk/ruk politics on the coming years.

    I’m with you fella on the Commons thing. I find him a real curates egg as a player – his fans (and I’m one) will quote his goals ratio but he looks ill at ease in a system aimed at speed and pressing. His lack of cutting pass into Scepovic was frustrating on saturday. A real number 10 would have allowed Stefan to have a blinding debut but he (and McGregor) had a real shoot on sight policy.

    I said earlier in the week this might be Kris’s was of playing himself back onto a game again so perhaps once he has found his mojo he’ll feel more capable of playing in the forward/s.

    He does slow us down though which I think is a bigger conundrum for Rony’s system.

    I take it you are talking bout the all-ireland final against Kerry.i was in Donegal last week, headline in Derrypeople was ‘leave the players alone’.The grasp for tickets has started.At 80 euro a pop they could have doubled the price and still sold out

    The minors are in the final too so demand is off the scale.

    No they’re not. The people promising them are in a position to put them in front of Parliament nothing more.

    Several back bench MPs have declared they’ll vote against, it’s not a vote winner in a lot of English constituencues. The House of Lords have previously indicated that it requires a UK wide referendum.

    It’s simply not true to say increased powers are guaranteed.

    Morning all,

    I missed the game on Saturday and still haven’t seen highlights, so can anyone tell me how Scepovic showed up.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    He was making good runs into the penalty box, but Commons & McGregor mainly chose to shoot from distance instead of passing. Perhaps that was the “tactics” for it did succeed once for Kris’s goal.
