Who we are and our values

1097

For some months now, a CQN’er and academic has prepared a project to identify who we, the Celtic support, are in 2014, what our views are, where we come from and how closely our objectives align with the Club.

The project takes the form of a questionnaire, which asks some personal questions, like your political leanings, intentions for the Referendum, faith, education and ethnic heritage.  No sign-up is involved and no identifying information is available.

There are also questions on the Offensive Behaviour Act, as well as the Club’s response to Resolution 12, The Green Brigade and the Living Wage.

The objective is to determine why you support Celtic and whether these reasons are being recognised and served.

I know Celtic have held similar surveys in the past but I’m not aware of a recent academic survey into these questions.  The survey will close on Friday 26th September and results will be reported thereafter.

As with all surveys, the more people who participate the more reflective the results will be, so please 10 minutes to get involved.  You’ll find the survey here.

If you have any questions for the author in relation to the survey please email cqn.survey@orange.fr

Thanks.

Pertaining to the above are allegations made about Aleks Tonev over the weekend.

It’s difficult to see where this one goes if the player says “I didn’t say that” without corroboration either way.  Despite this, the allegation is damaging to Celtic, and to the player, so an internal and public reaction is needed to reiterate the values of the club.

Celtic’s induction process should be clear what is and is not acceptable.

  1. When Ghandi argued for freedom, when the men and women of Easter 1916 made their bid for Irish freedom, when the French sought liberté, égalité and fraternité, did they stop and say- “ooh, what about the currency question? what if the rich corporations leave…we best just knock this silliness on the head.”

The Scottish people have the opportunity of achieving some basic ideals- that governance should be as close to the people as possible and as representative of the people as possible.

Whilst it sounds too simplistic, it is actually a true- the practical matters WILL be dealt with after independence, the sun will still rise on Friday 19th…

Societies, human beings have dealt with much more challenging problems and will do so in the future.

Yep it’s what I keep saying about Stokes as well, like him or not (and ok we’ve all pretty much given up on him in Europe), he’s still scored 70 goals in 160 games for Celtic, Commons has 68 in 158 games that’s a lot of goals to be pushing out the door if we drop them both, but I guess if we come up with something better we’ll all jump on board.

I remain hopeful but sceptical at the moment.

Does anyone else find it odd that so many are practically pushing Kris Commons out the door?

Last season’s top scorer, the player of the year and the creative fulcrum for the whole team for the last two or even three seasons and now he’s not good enough to fit into the new “masterplan”.

This coming at a time when the masterplan has seen us knocked out of the Champions League (twice) and struggle domestically.

And despite, going by the blog, being unable to run, pass or even shoot (!) he still managed to score the winner on Saturday. Someone please tell me who we have who is better than him.

    ————————————————-

I recall a similar situation with John Hartson – there seemed to be a view that his lack of mobility was the main factor in Celtic not playing like Barca. However, he was still a potent goal-scorer. We got rid of him and…errrrr….stopped scoring goals. I think when Kris is on his game he is unplayable. We have a new manager who wants to stamp his style of play on the team. I think if the new players start scoring we won;t see much of Kris.

Kind of a microcosm of Scotland, some emminent inventors of things tell us we are brilliantly clever people, inventing more than anyone else in the world, was the general thrust,

So when the House of Lords Constitution Committee states:

“Whereas both the UK Government and the Scottish Government have recognised that independence is a Scottish question, “devolution max” is not. Proper constitutional process requires that negotiations involving all parts of the United Kingdom precede any referendum on an agreed scheme of “devolution max.””

You don’t consider that as the House of Lords suggesting devo max requires a UK wide referendum. That’s interesting Ernie.

Devo max is not a Scottish question.

Constitutional process requires negotiations that precede any referendum.

If you don’t think the Hose of Lords have suggested a referendum might be required for Devo Max. Fair enough. I think your interpretation of their decision is flawed.

  8. GerryBhoy @ 10.09.

I think you are deliberately missing the point.

The point was that the original post was not critical of all political posts only Ernie’s.

And as some of us seem only to willing to hang on to every word, every timetable, every assumption of Alex Salmond’s great future in his Utopia; I wonder why he has not given a firm assumption of when the SNP will disband given a Yes vote.

Or is that another assumption of Hans Christian Anderson proportions and the truth is that they will not disband, will continue to milk the Holywood gravy train and impose more legalities like the OB act.

Think before you leap, and evaluate if it is really prudent to jump out of the frying pan into the inextinguishable fire.

Looks like Sevco are going to set another record….bear with me here.

Ross County were promoted in the first season of the Rangers-less premier league.

Sevco, New Rangers, whatever…..started life in the bottom tier that season.

Next season, if Sevco don’t go bust, they will be promoted.

Ross County are doing their best to get relegated this season…meaning they won’t have to take the risk of playing Sevco in the league.

So, next season, Sevco can claim, and continue to claim, that they are the only team in the Scottish League system, NOT to have played Ross County.

And Ross County can claim to be the only untainted team in Scotland.

    Consolation indeed.

I really need to do some work.

They are questions which have not been answered by a campaign which has set its stall out for the result.

The No campaign has been even worse,IMO. A totally negative approach to the whole thing, and an insult to even my intelligence.

I try to balance my posts by giving the other view too. I’m not 100% on it as my natural bias-for No-will always prevail, even if inadvertently.

IMO,the one thing that this campaign has proven is that our politicians are not up to it. Maybe we could do a better job ourselves by taking government back from the ‘elite’.

Meantime,I hope that everyone votes on Thursday in a way which they don’t have reason to regret-for whichever reason-a few years down the line.

You pretty much summed up what I was thinking when I did the survey too, and my answers to ‘your’ questions would have been the same as well. Probably representative of what a large proportion of the Celtic support might answer given the ‘right’ questions, in my opinion.

“any referendum” – in the last of two sentences.

We could get into a deep semantic argument about the true meaning of ‘any’ in this context but let’s be frank, it’s not worth it. It’s also the reason I was careful to say the HoL had indicated that a referendum on Devo Max is required. It’s their opinion, they’re not demanding it.

I think my initial point that Devo Max is not guaranteed still stands.
