Who we are and our values

1097

For some months now, a CQN’er and academic has prepared a project to identify who we, the Celtic support, are in 2014, what our views are, where we come from and how closely our objectives align with the Club.

The project takes the form of a questionnaire, which asks some personal questions, like your political leanings, intentions for the Referendum, faith, education and ethnic heritage.  No sign-up is involved and no identifying information is available.

There are also questions on the Offensive Behaviour Act, as well as the Club’s response to Resolution 12, The Green Brigade and the Living Wage.

The objective is to determine why you support Celtic and whether these reasons are being recognised and served.

I know Celtic have held similar surveys in the past but I’m not aware of a recent academic survey into these questions.  The survey will close on Friday 26th September and results will be reported thereafter.

As with all surveys, the more people who participate the more reflective the results will be, so please 10 minutes to get involved.  You’ll find the survey here.

If you have any questions for the author in relation to the survey please email cqn.survey@orange.fr

Thanks.

Pertaining to the above are allegations made about Aleks Tonev over the weekend.

It’s difficult to see where this one goes if the player says “I didn’t say that” without corroboration either way.  Despite this, the allegation is damaging to Celtic, and to the player, so an internal and public reaction is needed to reiterate the values of the club.

Celtic’s induction process should be clear what is and is not acceptable.

It isn’t easy to play fitba the Celtic Way at the highest level because of the negative coaches like Mourinho and many like him who have besmirched the Beautiful game.

  16. I hope when the Celtic Family are examining their values, that all the support they have given to people throughout the world who are seeking freedom and justice is not lost when it comes to their own country. To allow Westminster to rule our country and trample us into the dirt would be an act beyond comprehension. I had to laugh at the comment made from Saturday’s march by the orangemen through Edinburgh….” Nationalism is a divisive evil”. Well, they should know. If Scotland votes for Independence, they are a thing of the past with nothing to hang on to but their cancerous bile and Northern Ireland will quickly follow. We can have no other choice but a YES vote.

    Interesting piece in The Telegraph.

“The FA confirmed on Monday that neither Costa nor Senderos would face retrospective action for their conduct on Saturday.

Costa, who went on to score a hat-trick against Swansea, appeared to swing his left arm at Sigurdsson after the pair tussled during a Chelsea free-kick. The latter went down clutching his face but Costa went unpunished.

Senderos, meanwhile, delivered a snide kick to the back of one of Balotelli’s legs which again appeared to go unnoticed by the officials.

The actions by both Costa and Senderos were deemed by the match referees upon reviewing the incidents to have warranted only yellow cards.

The FA has the power to take retrospective action against sending-off offences.”

Compare that to how our players are hounded, given two-match bans for a simple yellow-card offence.

After the obligatory media witch-hunt,of course.

  23. This whole Indy saga highlights a clear issue that everyone should bear in mind at all times:

Just because someone is rich and famous, or even just famous, does not mean their opinion is worth listening to.

(Unfortunately, it is a fact that people do tend to listen to someone famous, as if they even know the first thing about which they are talking. The entire Advertising industry exploits this. )

Similarly, just because your friend or relative has a certain opinion does not carry any more weight than yours.

Just because someone else is voting YES or NO does not mean you should do so.

Make up your own mind based on what YOU consider is best for you and your fellow citizens.

    Lemmings shouldn’t get the vote!

  24. Election day in Clydebank fairly recently.

    I voted SNP.

But later I walked past the town hall.

All alone, on top of the building, in the town where it belonged.

A simple red flag flying in the breeze.

After a Yes vote, we can vote where our hearts are.

  25. Mea culpa

I assume the lemmings comment was a poor attempt at humour – if not you really need to read up the lemmings democratic party some more.

Many voters can not decipher the lies & pr from the relevant facts and many politicians wanted it that way. They are confused – because they are trying to understand something that is not understandable. So they revert to emotional and other shortcuts.

As for voting for what is best you and your fellow citizens then frankly you have been reading too much Harry Potter. Forget your fellow citizens. That is one of the factors that baffles the regular punter. He can only focus on what he feels or knows. The guy next door will have to vote for his own interests.

Celebreties have unfair influence but so do politicians who want us to think they wear tartan underpants, and lie to our face.

Both sides are happy to raise their own profile by using whoever they think will attract even one more vote.

    Some lemmings are actually leading.

Indeed, mate. I could tell from your posts yesterday that you didnae believe it either.

Having a breather from the little monsters?

  28. Completed the survey and was one section I really could not answer other than “other”. I reffer to the question regarding what you consider yourself. From memory the options were Irish, of Irish decent ,Scottish and other.

It actually brought to mind a recent post from Paul where he made the comment that he has never described himself as Britich. I can relate to this but have often reffered to myself as “Celtic” not a refference to our team but to my feeling of who I am culturally.

I find it decribes how I see myself better than choosing either Scottish or Irish as I am an each in equal proportion and certainly not British as this associates me with primarily England who have highjacked “British” as a synonym for “English”.

I feel a genuine affinity to calling myself “Celtic” as it embraces both sub cultures of my heritage and to distinguish myself as one or the other actually seems to promote a devisiveness depending on who you are talking to being either Irish or Scottish as if by doing so you are choosing one over the other.

In closing will add I have identified myself as Celtic since a young age and long before I became concious of the ” us and them” nature of being Scottish or Irish that presents itself in many political and cultural debates.

  29. Wee PS to my last post my choice of username is actually refference to fitba and was chosen 15 years or so back when the oppertunity to disscuss fitba became a part of the online experience. It is basically the national team I support and the club I support.

I guess this could be seen as making a decistion one way or the other but not really simply more to do with who I followed first as while I have an great affection for the ROI fitba team you cannot support two sides not to mention at 50 when I was at the age where loyaties are established the ROI side was well and truely a non entity in fitba terms where as I can imagine many of the younger generation have within our support have experienced the reverse given the Scottish sides time spent in the wilderness of international fitba . Akin to St MIrren being a team I barrack for ,lest they be playing us as they are the team of my birthplace.
