Withering in the vine, sin and orange

633

At 21-years-old Tom Rogic should be strongly staking his claim for a central midfield berth at Celtic.  The fact that he’s not is a disappointment to the player, and apparently the nation of Australia.  It’s also a disappointment to you and me.  He has the physique and the passing ability but after some tentatively positive performances last season he hasn’t kicked on as hoped.

There could be lots of reasons for this, it’s not necessarily the ‘fault’ of the player, his ability or the club, but football careers wither on the vine when clubs hoard talent.  If Tom can get some game-time under his belt at Melbourne Victory, and potentially get to Brazil in the summer, we will have a better indication if he is the real deal.

Someone just text me, “Rangers need to be a long-term sustainable business and that’s the bottom line.  The club needs to change”, from that memorable Craig Whyte interview to The Scotsman in 2012. Groundhog Day….

So Fifa presidential candidate, Jerome Champagne, has proposed the introduction of a sin-bin, to be invoked by the referee brandishing an orange card.  What’s your view on this, is there a universal association between sin and orange, or is this another subversive plot by Celtic fans? I have my suspicions.

Absolutely spot on, and that’s my moniker remains in place…..I am convinced BDO are working feverishly in the background to wrestle the assets off agent Whyte for the creditors…..I am also convinced the UTT have been delayed politically….HH

Some rewriting of history regarding Fergus McCann this morning. Disappointing.

If only Craig Whyte, Charles Green, Vladimir Romanov or Vincent Tan had come to the rescue back in 1994 – everything would be dandy at Celtic now.

Paul Elliott was a decent Celtic player. But he was never committed to our club and couldn’t get away quick enough. I seem to recall he was a bit of a bread-head.

Sorry to interrupt but does anyone on here have any info on the Celta Vigo v Celtic match programme from the 2003 Seville run , I am trying to pick up this programme for my collection . Appears to have been produced in a newspaper style ( according to eBay ) , can anyone confirm if this was /is the case ?

    Thanks in advance .

Paul Elliot was more interested in money than Celtic.

He was a very good player but I think history gets skewed at times. he was no world beater just a very good player in a poor side.

  10. Four Green Fields – I have a copy of the newspaper somewhere. Its a special supplement to a local newspaper as far as I can remember, not a club programme.

  11. I somehow missed the Elliot racisim story but I do know that Baldie and Agathe got racial abuse (monkey noise chants) from the huns for several seasons.

I thought at the time Celtic and MON should have made a stand about it.

  15. I just received this little gem from a friend in France this morning. Does it remind you of some company? I have been racking my brain all morning to try to recall of who it reminds me. Any ideas?

    VENTURE CAPITALISM

    You have two cows.

You sell three of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother-in-law at the bank, then execute a debt/equity swap with an associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax exemption for five cows.

The milk rights of the six cows are transferred via an intermediary to a Cayman Island Company secretly owned by the majority shareholder who sells the rights to all seven cows back to your listed company.

The annual report says the company owns eight cows, with an option on one more.

My worst day ever was standing in the Jungle when Mark Walters made his debut in the Glasgow Derby game. I was wife my uncle Danny who’s daughter had 2 kids who were mixed race as she had married a guy from Jamaca.

I actually hated a large section of the Celtic support that day.

I was only a kid and didn’t realise how bad it was until I got older and looked back on it. Probably one of the worst days in our history. It was very poor from the support.

The game against Hearts the week after was much worse but that is no excuse.

Apparently Paul Elliott’s favourite song was Everything I Own…

  22. Not going to post a link to the Copland Road Organisation on here and dirty the blog, but if anyone wants to read the fantasy crap said by Paul Elliot, then google ‘Paul Elliot’s little white lie’ and this will take you to it.

  23. eddieinkirkmichael,

like many other CQN’ers I was also in the Jungle that day.

I couldnt believe what i was seeing.

I always remember Archie McPherson commentating for the highlights and as the camera panned across the track in front of the jungle he mentions “…an assortment of fruit…”

Was not one of our finer hours. off the pitch that is. On it, it was a very fine 90 mins though!

Coincidentally that night was, and still remains, one of the drunkest conditions i have ever been. 2 day hangover. In saying that i watched the highlights of the game around 30 times at least during those 2 days.

Paul McStay’s swivel and then pass down the line to Chris Morris will remain in my memory for ever.

    HAIL! HAIL!

Please feel free to slaughter me if anyone else’s experience was different. I was at the game when Walters played at Celtic Park. I have heard many Rangers supporters talk about how terrible the racist abuse was directed towards Walters. I certainly heard him being roundly booed every time he touched the ball. He was given the exact same treatment that Marc Falco and many other big name/big transfer fee signings that Rangers made down through the years when they came to play at Celtic Park. I didn’t hear any racist chanting or comments at the game. I may be totally wrong however.

What I certainly do remember, however, is a story in The Sun the day before the game saying that Glasgow was sold out of bananas. On the Monday following the game, the same organ carried a photograph of a bunch of bananas lying on the trackside in front of an empty Jungle in a Drop the Dead Donkey sort of way.
