Withering in the vine, sin and orange

633

At 21-years-old Tom Rogic should be strongly staking his claim for a central midfield berth at Celtic.  The fact that he’s not is a disappointment to the player, and apparently the nation of Australia.  It’s also a disappointment to you and me.  He has the physique and the passing ability but after some tentatively positive performances last season he hasn’t kicked on as hoped.

There could be lots of reasons for this, it’s not necessarily the ‘fault’ of the player, his ability or the club, but football careers wither on the vine when clubs hoard talent.  If Tom can get some game-time under his belt at Melbourne Victory, and potentially get to Brazil in the summer, we will have a better indication if he is the real deal.

Someone just text me, “Rangers need to be a long-term sustainable business and that’s the bottom line.  The club needs to change”, from that memorable Craig Whyte interview to The Scotsman in 2012. Groundhog Day….

So Fifa presidential candidate, Jerome Champagne, has proposed the introduction of a sin-bin, to be invoked by the referee brandishing an orange card.  What’s your view on this, is there a universal association between sin and orange, or is this another subversive plot by Celtic fans? I have my suspicions.

Paul Elliot was a great player but made a erse of himself in that racism article.

Total fantasy interview on how the Orcs fans treated him the day he scored at both ends of the park at Ibrox.

He must have been smoking something when he did that interview.

Bit like Gordon Ramsay really……complete fantasist.

Didn’t he realise that some of the people reading these articles actually watched him play and know what happened in these games?

    The tale has been debunked.

It was Peter lawwell who reneged on the Elliott hoose deal ;)

I was wrong that it was Brown who negotiated the contract. I have already said that my memory served me wrong.

Regards the house, I don’t have a clue about a 40k purchase (what would you get for 40k) but I do know Paul Elliot got his nose out of joint over it.

What Paul Elliot did after he left Celtic does not concern me, what happened when he was with Celtic does, or rather did.

  5. Kitalba….

If he talks shoite about what happened at Celtic when he was there….particularly on something as serious as racism, then I think it is a concern in general.

Massive credibility gap in what he says in public now.

t that time you would have got a helluva lot more for £40 k than you would get now. How long ago did he play for us? About 20+ years. Especially if he planned to pocket the balance of £100000. He didn’t have a family in tow that would require him to buy a bigger house.

I realise you got the part involving Brown mixed up in time. That can easily happen. My own memory let’s me down at times :-))

I’m not suggesting my account above is necessarily correct either. It is what I was told …. Not from a taxi driver either. From a lawyer who had been told it by someone else ……… Probably a taxi driver.

You’re stretching my memory about the family part but I think he did have family back in London because I frequently caught the shuttle he was on back to Heathrow after the games and he was met by what looked to me like family.

You shied away from answering that ‘understanding’ question for a few days now mate which sort of tells me your head and courage hides where the sun don’t shine.

  14. Kitalba….

    Don’t understand your point mate?

Of course the Huns are not above racism and neither are the Tims.

Paul Elliot lied in an interview to ‘Kick out Racism’ and gave the Huns ammunition that’s all.

    Great footballer…..clown of a man.

    Just kidding…but elliot, Brown etc…..

  16. Paul Elliot joined us in ’89 and left two years later, after winning a POTY award.

Served us well – if circumstances had been different things might have worked out more satisfactorily for both parties.

I’ll take your word for it. I can’t say with any sort of conviction whether he was separated, married or divorced. I do remember that he wanted to see more of his daughter who lived in London and deduced from that that he didn’t live with her due to some sort of separation.
