Woody Allen and the Pope of Rome

1600

There’s a moment in Woody Allan’s movie Bananas, after the leader of a military coup takes control, that he loses his faint grasp on rationality and plunges headlong into random nonsense.  He informs the inhabitants of his Latin American country that Swedish will be their new language and that underwear now should be worn as an outer garment.

BBC’s Jim Spence this morning reports that a Dundee United director, flush with the success of reaching the League Cup final, told him United want almost double the ticket allocation for the final than they were able to sell for the semi-final, as “We want to ensure as big a crowd as possible for the game, which we are sure the sponsors would want too”, and that he wants United fans in the Toryglen end of the stadium, or the Celtic end, as it’s known by everyone else in the land.

Sure, ask for more tickets than you were able to sell, but don’t justify your request on the basis that this will ensure a bumper crowd.  If anything, it will achieve the opposite.

Asking for the Celtic end is right up there with wearing your pants on top of your trousers.  It’s a random and irrational exercise of power by someone who is evidently in way over their head.  It’s technically possible to have United at the ‘Toryglen’ end, but it would achieve no benefit and only cause confusion and inconvenience to thousands.  If Woody Allen is short of quality material (which appears to be the case), he should spend some time here.

Scotland is not full of these types, but those there are seem to gravitate towards positions in our national game.  From now on, I’m going to think of United chairman Stephen Thompson with his pants on the outside.  Pantsman Thompson, seems an appropriate handle.

I don’t know about you, but it’s been a while since I’ve had to listen to thousands sing “No Pope of Rome” at a public gathering.  The problem is not as significant as it was a few decades ago, and is largely limited to the embers of a dying sub-culture. The rest of the country has moved on, as have most Rangers fans. I’m not sure how, or if, you can check these excesses, but I’m sure they are overwhelmingly self-harming.

Kenny MacAskill, appointed Justice Minister in the SNP government on the basis of having selective hearing and being able to make absurd claims, left his post in November.  His government have yet to make any comment on yesterday. Nor have they repealed the politically-motivated Offensive Behaviour Act, or show they are remotely interested in asking for the laws they introduced to be enforced without fear or favour. The Act was aimed at you and is simply flawed. It is toxic, remains in place out of nothing more than bloody-mindedness and will be repealed at the first change of government.

Anyway, you’ve got a cup final to look forward to on the weekend of the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner at the Kerrydale Suite, on Friday 13 March.  Email me, celticquicknews@gmail.com to book your tickets.

Gentlemen, why so upset at the media coverage of the events surrounding the aftermath of the first celtic v sevco game. It is to be expected.

If the events that are purported to have occurred did in fact take place as stated then those responsible need to be condemned. I will join the long list of celtic fans in doing so.

However, as always, the real story is in what the msm do not report. Of the 37 people arrested the msm have chosen to focus all their attention on two incidents. Does that not suggest that the other 35 arrests were not Celtic fans? This would also suggest that the daily cut and paste are desperate to divert attention away from the true story. Sevco fans racist, sectarian, bigoted and generally offensive behaviour at the stadium and before and after the game, which clearly resulted in a substantial number of arrests.

Back to matters we should be concentrating on….It was a very good transfer window for the bhoys. Signing two of the best Scotland has to offer for the foreseeable future was a good piece of business.

No official confirmation of the bhoy Duffy signing yet?

Great news about Armstrong and Mackay-Steven, exactly the kind of deals we should be making more often when these guys are doing well in our league.

to be fair was contacted by 2 tabloids but refused to speak to them. Was also offered the opportunity by a fellow CQN’er, a I guy I respect and hold in high regard, to speak to a magazine but refused that also.

Wasn’t something I wanted highlighted in the press. At the time if I wasn’t doped to the nut on morphine and other pain killers after coming out of theatre I likely wouldn’t have made it public on here either and no one would have been any wiser but that’s the concotion of alcohol, drugs and mobile phones for you.

  6. Have to say I agree with Canamalar on the fighting. The young boy was not targeted. This has been a fight between rival mobs. The mini bus door was open??????.Why would that be?.

I will make no judgments on something I did not see.The boy was an unfortunate victim, but I can bet his father was not entirely innocent. We have all seen how they scream and hurl their bile from buses. The same rags have not uttered a word about the naked sectarian bile that spewed out of that pit for the whole of the match.

I take nothing they say as truth. They know no more facts than you or I,but dont let that stop them.

  7. Jungle Jim…,

I hear you but we can never be sure of the motives of those raising meeja propaganda on here, so I believe we should be hostile to all, whether innocent or motivated, that way everyone knows we do not trust meeja propaganda sources.

“Once upon a time, a [Sevco] jersey, was something really special.

It meant something. You were part of a beloved institution. You were looked upon by society. It was something that had to be achieved. That made the Club special. That is why we are the World’s most successful Club.

These days it appears any old Sh*te can wear it without feeling honoured.

Just like any old Sh*te can invite those who have kicked the Club when it is down to dinner in the Blue Room and into the directors box.

This is why we are where we are.”

“Anyone who thinks this is naive incompetence really needs to have a quiet word with themselves. They are following the same plan they’ve had since day 1, to the letter!

The whole semi final t-shirt thing…….no one is that naive!

They are ripping it out of our club and having a wee laugh at us while they do it. Make no mistake.”

    Have you been watching ?………

    67heaven….,

The world has now accepted the old firm is alive and kicking, old firm violence and disorder have heralded that return to normality, sitting chuckling to yourself about knowing better than the rest of the world does not exactly convince them of your sanity. We’ve lost the propaganda war, we might still make a fist of the legal and sporting arguments but I don’t see this board having the gonads for such a fight, they have proven themselves to me as part of the old firm and all that’s wrong with the sport in Scotland, remind me what happens when good men remain silent ?………..

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Chuckling works for me, since I’m confident sevco are heading for the knacker’s yard also

  12. I am furious that once again the Huns are reverting to type, using financial doping to gain an unfair advantage. They cannot afford these loanees. They have borrowed money to meet their existing wage bills for months now.The man supplying the money is conflicted with the “Two team”ruling. He is due in front of the SFA,on these charges.PL will sit on the panel he will face. This is a disgrace on a par with the EBT scandal.

Hibs,Hearts,QOTS,Falkirk, must have complaints about this.If they do or say nothing, then slap it into them for damaging their clubs chances of reaching the SPFL.

I might be wrong, but is Petrie not on the SFA panel along with PL?.Last nights approval was only okayed by paper pushers. When the ramifications are seen today, lets see what the outcome is.Talksport ,yesterday, were calling it an absolute scandal.

  16. Monaghan 1900s posts from the dark side are just fantastic….that mob over at ffs paranoia makes some of the slightly over the top postings on here seem sane….thanks Monaghan……

  17. @socialreclus: @suttonnick @murrayf00te Murray I spoke to J martins brother this morning. Said it had nothing to do with football match. Just bams at it.

@murrayf00te: @socialreclus that’s what I tend to believe too but it’s not what his wife said so we had to go with her version of events.

@socialreclus: @murrayf00te understand. I know the guy. His brother saw the cctv and said it was wrong place wrong time. Hope paper helps catch who did it

@murrayf00te: @socialreclus funny you use that expression. It’s the headline on the story on 4&5.

@socialreclus: @murrayf00te I’m still in sync with you guys ; ) it’s a bad boozer. Heard they closed the doors instead of doing anything.

@murrayf00te: @socialreclus bampots everywhere, right enough.

  18. 67heaven…,

You’ve been chuckling for 3 years now, it’s starting to look a bit manic, you’ll be chuckling next year when you miss four games a season because you won’t be going, that’s four games you are being robbed of. You’ll be at home chuckling on your own trying to avoid watching your team.

Kid yourself not, the path is being cleared for their promotion and hibs, hearts, qos and Falkirk can like it or lump it.

  19. Unlike some posters on CQN I am not in denial about the scum element within the Celtic Support. They are no doubt a tiny minority who are frankly unfashionably attracted to sectarianism. It doesn’t matter to me if the number is smaller or greater than Sevco equivalents.

The young Rangers supporter who was bottled in a minibus probably doesn’t care either.

It’s particularly annoying to me that all moral high ground has been conceded by this completely brainless act of violence.

I hope that he is outed by true Celtic fans before the police catch him. That would be some small compensation.

Best wishes to the unsuspecting victim and I’m sure all true Celtic fans wish him a speedy recovery and justice.

In fairness none of us know what his father’s role in the incident was ( if any ). What we do know is a 10 year old boy, a rangers supporter, was injured by a bottle allegedly thrown by a celtic fan. That’s terrible and we have to accept it’s terrible and not try and diminish it by making excuses for it. Forgive me if I have misunderstood as I am sure you wouldn’t condone this behaviour in any shape or form

I get it that it’s really important to some people in the game and media that TRFC get into the top tier.

But if has to be on sporting merit and within the same natural football finance constraints other clubs are governed by.

The problem that is being created is that the Rangers at all cost policy means they can never be relegated if promoted and if they are in the the play offs will be seen to be benefitting from referee decisions.

I know that has always been so but there can be no doubt that because of the potential size of their support they get and expect favours not available to other clubs.

What happens if with the help of NU players they get promoted?

Do they in effect have an NU B team playing in the Premier?

This is not football as a sport it is stage managed poor entertainment.

    —————————————————————————————————————–

If a Scottish Law Judge can deem that it is not gaining sporting advantage to buy and remunerate players via a tax scam – then there will be no brake put on anything the Ibrox entity does in their pursuit of the second promotion spot to the Premiership.

No Championship club will oppose – they don’t have the money to follow it through.

The old wild west adage will apply – “don’t pull a gun on me unless you are prepared to use it” – Deputy Dawg Ashley will do as he pleases.

  24. There you are, I give you cultsbhoy the latest meeja spouting clown

The ten year old boy was targeted, the boy was bottled by a Celtic supporter a far cry from someone throwing a bottle.

There is no doubt in his mind a Celtic supporter attacked a ten year old boy deliberately, cults bhoy has a reasonable grasp of the English language and chose his words carefully.

Zero proof about who threw the bottle simply supposition professed in the meeja but to cultsbhoy it could not possibly be anyone other than a Celtic supporter, no doubt there will now be a balance of probability argument but that is ignored in his initial statement, the boy was bottled and cultsbhoy knows fine well the difference between a deliberately targeted (bottled) assault and a mindless act of hooliganism.

And he expects people to take his meeja opinion seriously because he condemns what we all condemn.

  25. Do I detect something of a feel good factor on here after last nights signings?

Like Armstrong as a player but a little concerned it may limit opportunities for Henderson, though Stokes may be the man who loses out the most.

Looking ahead to the summer we will need to replace VVD, though hopefully Denayer will stay one more season. Apart from maybe a back up to Izzy, then the only other position that may need addressed is striker. Couple of months to figure out if we already have the answer on our books in Griffiths and Guidetti. Scepovic needs games, but he has to earn the right to get those games like Griffiths has done. Should be a relatively settled squad going into the qualifiers(*assuming we win the league and don’t win the Europa League)

Anyway, another shameless plug for my err movie debut…
