You did this

We were hurting earlier this year.  Sentiment among the support, the players and the backroom staff was at floor level.  It felt like it was just you and me left.  Not for the first time, that was enough.  A year after 50,000 bought season tickets and did not get to see Celtic, they did so again, even though the world is not ready for many to mingle in just yet (Martin42 included).

Celtic is not our choice, it is us, as indistinguishable from who we are as our own image in the mirror.  Without that pull to support our club, especially when in need, it would have floundered many decades ago.  In the 1950s, Celtic was close to being eclipsed by Hibs, who had the players and recent trophies Celtic did not, with crowds on a par.  The years before 1965 were humbling for a generation some of whom still come to enjoy success like they once never dreamed.

The 1990s were no better.  Made to feel like foreigners in our own land, we looked to Celtic to provide a firm strain of identity.  We hung in there, at times by the skin of our teeth.  Then the new millennium brought glories not seen since Jock Stein’s great era.

We are a club born to raise funds for the needy.  That has been difficult over the last two years, with events precarious to plan and collections needing footfall that was often missing.  It is all the more remarkable that your Foundation broke new records this year, raising more money through it’s Christmas Appeal than ever.  What I see in the discrete and anonymous actions of Celtic fans is humbling.

People who would run a mile from drawing attention to their acts.  Many who clearly have little to give, giving anyway.  Others throwing £20 in a bucket and telling their pals to do the same.  If you ever want to feel humble, spend some quality time with Celtic fans.

Why do they do this?  As I said above, it is indistinguishable from who they are.  They are Celtic and this is what Celtic means.  It is an honour to stand among you.

Take care and have a very Happy Christmas.

  1. To those who go to “Paradise” and those who have gone to “Paradise” a Very Merry Christmas, by the way! :))

  2. Pope Francis@Pontifex

For it to be truly #Christmas, let us not forget this: God comes to be with us and asks us to take care of our brothers and sisters, especially the poorest, the weakest, the most fragile, whom the pandemic risks marginalising even more.

  3. A happy and peaceful Christmas to 1 and all from the Garngad

Lionsroar67 – thanks for post that from the Pope, very true indeed.

  6. Merry Christmas to ALL the GOOD Bhoys on here….You know who you are.

I can NOT wish happy tidings to any CHUMPS on this day….as IF I met any of them in the street or Pub I wouldnt be spending my time with any of them .

All my life, I have TRIED ( Sometimes I have FAILED)…not to be a HYPOCRITE, but on occasions I know that I have probably let myself down ?

There are many GOOD GUYS on here who I would love to have many Beers with and a Chat. etc. I coant name them ALL….but may I wish a very Merry Christmas to those GOOD Bhoys that I have met over the years, and to those I may meet in the future.

    Talking of HYPOCRISY….Allan HUN McGregor’s comments yesterday…He’s ” HAVING A LAUGH” isnt he ?

A Hun Thug and Cheat of the Highest Order pandering to the Hun Mob once again.

I have watched this HUN CHUMP over many years, and its clear for all to see…..Whenever a Celtic v Sevco game is level ( 0-0 or 1-1 etc ESPECIALLY at Celtic Park or Hampdump)…this Champion Of Chumps…will deliberately WASTE Time at Goal Kicks and Kick Outs…he will also catch a very simple easy cross ball…and fall to the ground…and lie there…looking around just to waste time every time the Huns are winning or DRAWING with Celtic.

HH to all the GOOD Guys.

    ……..

A Very Merry Christmas to you my friend and to all your family.

    God Bless you all.

( I had forgotten the Lochbridge connection”).

To my Fitba Mentor at Lochbridge Boys Club and St Benedicts ( We were the BENNY Bhoys Guild) in the auld Easterhoose…Mr Alec Wright OBE …or was it a CBE…I cant remember ? LOL

Alec Wright ( OBE/CBE) just LOVED me in his Fitba teams…because I CARED……and I would have run thru brick walls for that Great Man. He loved me for NEVER giving up and chasing every lost cause playing at Centre Forward.

He was also the Greatest SOCIALIST that I have ever met…and Him and his lovely wife had NINE Weans…Three Daughters and SIX Bhoys….Mr and Mrs Wright called ME….” Their SEVENTH Son” !

It the nicest thing anyone has ever called me. I was best Pal for many years with Three of his Bhoys, and I was ALWAYS invited to their family get togethers.

This Man knew his FITBA…..and if none of the boys were at home…Mr Wright and Me would go to the Pub and I could listen to this man all day…he was so honest and truthful……and as I say he KNEW his FITBA and Politics.

He was the Man…who ALWAYS encouraged me…even when I hadnt scored a goal…He was a Local Hero to many folk in Easterhoose and beyond back then.

Although he is now in Paradise….I STILL miss him…and his family.

He was a Father Figure to me, when I had the honour and privilege of playing Fitba for him.

HH Mate and stay safe and well.

    God Bless.

    May he Rest in Peace.

    …………….

I am STILL undecided whether to find a Pub in Merchant City Today or not…its not much fun being on your own at Christmas……but ONE of my Favourite Films is on BBC 2 at 11.10am this Christmas morn…its called ” CASABLANCA” with Humphry Bogart and many other great actors. Its a CLASSIC….so I will watch that and I may phone round a couple of Pubs to see if they are open ?

IF I do decide to go for a bevvy…I will be phoning a Taxi…then again…I may decide just to stay at home and get myself ” FIT” for the Celtic game and the Horse Racing tomorrow ?

    LOL.

Stay safe Mate..and enjoy Christmas with your family.

    God Bless.
