Ajax, Fenerbahce, Molde for Celtic

980

It’s a return to to seed Ajax, which is a good football draw, although the Ajax fans and Amsterdam police make it an unwelcome tie for other reasons.

Fenerbahce lost their Champions League qualifier to Shakhtar Donetsk before beating Greek club Atromitos in the Europa League play-off round. There were no easy teams in pot three, Fenerbahce are about par for the group.

Molde beat Dinamo Zagreb and Standard Liege, so deserve some respect, they will fear no one in this competition.

Happy with the draw, it could have been a whole lot more difficult but as always, we have to arrive prepared as there are no hiding places in Europe.

GOLFERS!

There’s a chance to win a round of golf for four of you at the magnificent Aberdour course, scene of the annual CQN Open, for £1. Taggsybhoy has provided this opportunity, to raise funds to support the Celtic Foundation’s work. If you want to cheer yourself up after a hard week, read about the Foundation’s work here.

But after you’ve read that, get onto ebay here and enter the raffle. You’re even allowed to win it for a friend, so pile in.

A box full of backpacks, pencils and cups for Malawi just arrived at my office (thank you) ahead of tomorrow’s collection at the Celtic Way before the game. Remember to bring along your old backpacks, pencils and handtowels if you have any.

  1. A panic loan signing and a young midfielder we are likely to loan back to Inverness.

Looks like the planning for next seasons qualifying is off to a cracking start.

We don’t need back up for Izzy we need a replacement with Izzy as back up to him.

Blackett generally played CB for Man U last season but back up left back is a possibility.

Don’t know how often I have typed this, but Chick Young really is a complete idiot.

  4. Big Judith doing the BBc weather- exactly how I imagine Darth Vader’s sexy wife to look…

Van Gaal gave Blackett a five year deal in February which is positive.

2 year deal up to summer of 2017

Have to agree with the earlier comment that we’d have taking some beatings in CL group stage with current squad. Would love if we signed a centre back who has leadership qualities (Mjallby, Rieper) and is not being put in the shop window to generate cash down the line. Our centre backs were excellent this season but neither was ever planning to stay.

It’s not panic. The plan would always have been to see what competition we were in before pursuing any signings. If Van Djik goes at the last minute we need cover.

  8. forget all this he can play in various positions along back 4, get the players in who play in a set position

I feel as tho we are 6 or 7 good signings away from a no bad wee team.

2 or 3 with experience and a fit Lustig. I wouldn’t over react to Tuesday. I think the players and coaching staff will be pissed at the fallout and will be looking to hand out a tanking tomorrow.

It’s the spin off effect after being thrashed by Motherwell. They thought they were back

but SMSM are suffering from another year of ‘journeyism’.

  11. Just before I go, BSR – do me a favour and pop over to the CQN Corner tomorrow around 2.30. It’s been a while, friend… ;-)

    Aff oot…

Is it true we have only 27’000 season ticket holders.

Lol no truth in that mate. If your looking for a truth Rangers died 3 years ago, and a new club called Sevco play in the same stadium!

Loan from Man United and another midfielder that’s not ready for first team. Thank God the manager isn’t a Yes man for the board.

  14. Beamishismypint on 28th August 2015 6:55 pm

    stop talking sense.

of course if rieper of mjallby were the current centre halves then they would be available for sale today, just as they were when they played.

  15. We always fancy ourselves as playing in a better league well looking at our draw in the Europa league we have been afforded this chance. All are good teams and will give Celtic players a big chance to redeem themselves after last Tuesday night. Interesting to read the kind of money the Turks have spent on players which is away beyond anything we could contemplate, yet they still failed to make the Champions League group stage, makes you wonder. Nowhere to hide in these games particularly in Turkey, one hostile place. Who needs the Champions League when there are games like these to look forward to, except for the money of course..

  16. Hope we are not signing more young players on load with no possibility of signing them long team, if that is were we are at i am seriously depressed, lets not forget vvs us being sold, how on earth can we be looking to sign a such a player??

chrisie will hopefully be decent signing if it goes through, no problem with signing best if rest in Scotland but we still need at least 5 quality players in the starting 11 @ anyone time

    get it sorted

    hh

  17. Interesting to note that West Ham and Southampton have been knocked out in the Europa League qualifiers.

  18. If Ronny had a say he would keep VIrgil. Of course he is a yes man and Lawwell will tell him VIrgil is gone. Lawwell will also tell him how much of the fee he can spend and it will be £2M max.

In effect we will exit the transfer window weaker than when we started. We will have lost VIrgil and Denayer who are replaced by Boyata and Hoopy. Of course Mulgrew will be available to replace Boyata if his form dips.

When the dust settles Lawwell will have failed in CL qualifaction. At the same time he will be the only Celtic employee to benefit out of CL failure to the tune of £0.5M. Lawwell Beancounter actions will ensure the Team is weaker than last year.

Lawwells game plan will be to survive the season and await Sevco with opens arms next season.

If RD fails to win the league I can see Hoopy being player /manager next season as Lawwell continues the downsizing.

    30k max tomorrow.

    Cover for who? Mulgrew?

If he’s on loan with us having an option to buy then fair enough but it’s no good developing someone else’s player. When we are supposed to be planning for next season Champions League qualifiers.

  22. Tyler Blackett deal confirmed, season long loan with a view to a permanent move next season fee believed to be £1.5million

  23. lennon's passion on

He said: “We’ve conceded three goals from set-pieces over two ties which is

    very disappointing.

“I’m a large part of that and I will take

responsibility for the set plays a lot of the time and I will shoulder the blame for it.

“If there’s anything we can do going forward we will look to tweak the zonal marking system.

“But it’s something that has stood us in good stead in the past and we will make sure that if there are any problems with it then we will fix it.”

Were did JK get all his coaching experience seems strange he’s sorting out the defence.

  24. “Rangers has received assurances from the BBC that their reporting of Rangers’ affairs will be balanced.”

    Balanced?

    If only.

  25. Who needs the SMSM to put the boot into Celtic . Just come on to CQN some of the comments since Tuesday have been outrageous . Folk moaning about signing Christie probably the same folk moaning about how we never signed McCarthy and Fletcher. Young prospect from Man Utd no not good enough for us a season. Don’t understand why some of you support Celtic you obviously don’t get any enjoyment out of it . Rant over.

  26. We seem hell bent on buying-loaning projects, all very well for jam the morra, but feck all good for the present, and a disaster for any hope of CL footy next season.

  27. ” If you keep on signing players from ̶D̶u̶n̶d̶e̶e̶ ̶U̶t̶d̶ Man Utd you’ll turn into ̶D̶u̶n̶d̶e̶e̶ ̶U̶t̶d̶ Man Utd ”
