Backlash needed for Highlanders

623

Three weeks after putting 8 goals past South Lanarkshire’s top team Celtic struggled to demonstrate their superiority against the county’s least decorated SFA member

We’ve seen these games before, East Kilbride looked no weaker than the Arbroath team who took us to a replay after drawing at Celtic Park a few years back, but neither performance was an endorsement of Celtic’s football.

I’m getting an uncomfortable feeling that teams know how to play Celtic. For most, this knowledge will not affect the result, but some, like Ross County and Aberdeen, will figure they can give us the ball all day, and as long as they stick to task, they’ll have a chance.

The only resolution to the ills of the last three outings is to get back on the field and boss a game the way we did several times last month. Ross County and Inverness both visit Celtic Park in the next two weeks and both need to feel a backlash. Let’s hope.

I agree most managers just give soundbites, especially after games but sometimes RD is a bit more open.

Most of it is just bland cliches.

  7. Did Speirs ever suggest a successor to the Gardener when he was plying his trade in the nether regions of Scottish football?

Was he scouring the unemployed managers from the lower divisions in England and come up with anyone who had a magic hat?

I’d like to see the reaction of CQN if McInnes had performed as well as he did last season during the run in.

    Or on his European adventure.

    Or on his cup outings.

I’m going out to stock up on pitchforks.

didn’t he lose his gig at the herald? i guess he has to keep himself relevant somehow, even if it means he has to stoop to the level of us internet bampots and just shout out something controversial to get people using his name.

a lot of journos trade on our and their fans’ anger, he’s just taken a route one kick up the park with that one

  9. I defend Peter Lawwell to the hilt on here because, knowing how business operates, I believe that in a mad financial football world, we do the best we can with revenue, although relatively constant, that is devalued year on year, as other leagues leave us far behind.

I don’t know too much about Dermot Desmond’s business affairs and, I am sure that many on here who denigrate him, know very little either.

All I will say is that his financial investment in Celtic comes from the heart and in a world of David Murrays, Craig Whites, Charles Greens, Romanov and the like, he is our insurance of the well-being and probity of our club.

He is not an ‘absentee landlord’, he is a benign investor who does not get involved in day to day operations.

Sack Lawwell, dump Dermot, sack the board…..the grass is always greener…for the uninformed agitator.

    —————-

With any investment there is a financial risk – dividends are paid to encourage investors to invest.

Remember the millions lost and squandered at Ibrox, leading to bankruptcy – with people like Desmond and Lawwell in charge, that will never happen at Celtic – we will never be hounded out of business.

Nothing is forever, we will eventually move into an environment more suited to our status – when that happens we will be in good shape to take advantage.

  13. Mr Pastry

I do not agree Celtic plc rely heavily on season ticket holders to continue to buy and very likely the same season book holders to buy the merchandise, how many not doing so would it take to jepordise the club, and who would put their hands in their pockets to stop admin and liquidation?

My answer to that would be the fans again but maybe I’m wrong

  14. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

If the players are behind Ronny then the cowardly MSM attacks on him should see them fired up for the rest of the season.

  15. Carnoustie golfer! I did not come on bragginbg about my salary,I was just making a point about Cultsbhoy’s obsessive with Peter Lawwell’s salary and bonus. Night after night. The man can’t answer back, so I asked him his salary, which he didn’t post, I posted mine before it was requested. In the past he pointed out how he was in charge of a zillion pound budget. Then he attends only big games the old Huns games. However, he tells this blog what’s the matter with Celtic. I’m not convinced he’s a Tim. My post obviously annoyed you….too bad . Post your riveting views on malts, and of course her no boasting are bye? What about posters who are alcoholics, did you think about them and their illness?

  18. MiT,

I think sometimes (and not very often, I grant you) Celtic under RD play tremendous football. Much more entertaining than often that played under the likes of MON and WGS, not to mention the man reputedly coming back this week: Neil Lennon. The only one I would want back of any of them is WGS and he was hounded out of Celtic Park, by some on the totally spurious grounds that he wasn’t a Celtic man, whatever that is supposed to mean.

I can’t say McInnes has done particularly well at Aberdeen. Their “exploits” in Europe made ours look world class!

I think too that our manager has been let down by too many of the players lack of discipline, McGregor being only the latest example. If RD can instill in all of them a proper professional attitude, he will have done our Club a great favour. I have a feeling John Collins has the same aim and it doesn’t sit well with too many of the older players especially.

The Scottish mindset/culture needs to change if we hope to improve in Europe. That is a mammoth task that the Scottish game as a whole doesn’t want to face (possibly because it may also entail facing into its bigotry).

  19. Gary67…

Like yourself, I have no sympathy for him, TB pushed the boat out for him and his family only for Feruz to turn his back…hell mend him. HH

  20. Keep an eye on Vincent Koziello of Nice. 20 years old, box to box midfielder, looks like GMS but play like Iniesta (for the old guys on here, Iniesta is a sort of more modern Steve Murray). I watched him play at the weekend, runs all the time, pass and move, pass and move, make yourself available: 91% successful pass rate, he is a metronome at the heart of the Nice team. Still cheap, but won’t be for long.

If he’s 1% of the player Iniesta is he’ll be an absolute mega star.

  24. Draws for Scottish Cup fixtures:

Up to and including the initial draw today (which pitched Celtic away to Dundee Utd) Celtic had been drawn to play at home twice in the last 21 draws (for non-neutral venues).

The Rangers (old & new) have been drawn to play at home 14 times in the last 19 draws (for non-neutral venues), including today’s draw.

CELTIC were drawn at home in 9.5% of those 50/50 draws.

THE RANGERS were drawn at home in 73.7% of those 50/50 draws.

n.b. Even adjusting Celtic’s figures to amend Celtic’s draw today, 3 at home from 21 is still just 14.3%.

One for the statisticians to discuss…
