Backlash needed for Highlanders

623

Three weeks after putting 8 goals past South Lanarkshire’s top team Celtic struggled to demonstrate their superiority against the county’s least decorated SFA member

We’ve seen these games before, East Kilbride looked no weaker than the Arbroath team who took us to a replay after drawing at Celtic Park a few years back, but neither performance was an endorsement of Celtic’s football.

I’m getting an uncomfortable feeling that teams know how to play Celtic. For most, this knowledge will not affect the result, but some, like Ross County and Aberdeen, will figure they can give us the ball all day, and as long as they stick to task, they’ll have a chance.

The only resolution to the ills of the last three outings is to get back on the field and boss a game the way we did several times last month. Ross County and Inverness both visit Celtic Park in the next two weeks and both need to feel a backlash. Let’s hope.

  1. Now before anyone gets upset, I am full of self awareness.

I know I’m a bald old codger who would be hard pressed to kick a ball the length of myself.

So don’t bring your pitchforks to my door.

    Being a snow shovel instead.

How does a young man on the threshold of a career in sports think he can go out and drink a couple of days before a game?

    Or anytime for that matter.

It’s a short career with no guarantee that you will stay injury or illness free.

Today’s game demands a high degree of fitness.

It should also demand dedication and determination.

Can anyone imagine Andy Murray out on the ran dan a couple,of nights before a big tournament?

Is it a Scottish mentality trait?

Do we need to provide our players, adults of voting age, with counselling on looking after themselves for the short length of their contracts?

Is youth wasted on the young?

At least I know the answer to the last question.

  2. TET

I can see your logic but the league we are in we need someone who has played in it and knows the nuances of the SPF’inHell.

We need someone who knows that jan/feb away to the sheep that the pitch will be a tattie field and we need men who will win their battles. Thats what we need just now, a manager who knows the league, knows the nonsense we will face and will set the team up to play accordingly.

We always dip around now, form always sputters. I wish we could see previous years on cqn about this time cos am sure the jibber jabber would be the same, ie, we had a few bad games, injuries are mounting etc etc

We go into the good weather and better pitches, plus we are playing a similar amount of games to the rest of the teams in the league (we are out of europe) so our players injuries and sore legs are getting more time to recover.

A spanish/european manager would take time to understand this………………unless he had a director of football to advise him in this.

Noticed we are being conditioned a little for this to maybe take place, winning captains?

Your mention yesterday of being a trades unionist and not wishing to see anyone sacked,I can absolutely understand.

    There must surely be exceptions.

    Maggie?

    For one . :-)

  5. Guys , as long as Ronny is Celtic manager we should all back him to the hilt beginning with 90 minutes of positive support on Saturday , get the 3 points and do the same over the next few weeks when we have 4 home games. Celtic fans are better than what is going on at the moment. For now Ronny is one of US and deserves the love and faith of every Celtic fan until that changes. Maybe a ‘ Oh Ronny Ronny ‘ in the 5th minute to signify 5 in a row ?

Can’t argue with the gist of what you suggest. Fans at the game should get behind the team as loudly as they can. No booing at half time, if things are going wrong, no moaning just support.

But none of that will change the fact that ronny is not good enough

  7. Clunks

Aye, a proper DoF, one who actually knows what he is about, no someone playing at it, Oh and throw in a decent scout would be a bonus.

  8. Larsson Passion – spot on! I think the problem with the staff is the stubbornness of collins and Deila to play too many players who are lightweight and “flair” players. Rule one for any successful team is to be solid at the back and have stability in midfield to allow the creative players to express themselves. We have too many creative players in the team chasing shadows trying to tackle. nae working.

I think hughs or stubbs would give us that team!

  9. Alan Stubbs and John Hughes would get even less patience for defeats or failures than RD.

Their managerial C V. Would be cited as appointments lacking imagination and ambition.

    These days apparently

The Celtic jersey does shrink to fit inferior players.

Its a new low to facilitate heated driveways.

Even the pish in the 80’s wizny this bad!

  12. None of the usual suspects inspire me, so until an inspirational name is in the frame I would stick with RD and JC.

    HH.

  13. Mags

It wasn’t one jersey that created that heated driveway.

It was a whole team of jerseys that shrunk on the driveway to melt the snow.

had a few people comment today on my anti women posts last night, thanks for seeing them for the spirit they were posted.

  14. Mags

What happened to the Forster Wanyama Van dyke jerseys?

That was nothing to do with the players, the board shrunk them for profit.

They are the bricks that are laid on the driveway………

  15. One thing about John Hughes teams – they give absolutely everything! If they don’t he simply doesn’t tolerate it! he is a born leader. Another thing, he tries to play football and has learned a ton though his experiences.

If i was a ref – i’d think twice about any tom foolery if he was boss. Certain managers don’t tolerate it and are heard loud and clear – too many of our recent managers have taken it on the chin. How jolly nice !

  16. lets not go back for a coach if and when it happens.i would give hughes a chance for sure, bottom line is,whoever is coach of celtic should have the backing of all celtic supporters. i am not a ronny fan but he has my backing.

  17. TET

Hughes for boss is gaining some traction……….

But if you were lucky enough to be in the hotseat, you would want all fans to back you to the hilt.

RD is the boss until the end of the season, so lets back him. I hate looking at the fear in his eyes in interviews.

WE can help him keep the faith, surely thats what he needs for the next few months.

Even if he is gone in June we can support the shit out of him till then?

  18. Clunks 11:35

What cunning plan did you have in mind to keep VVV and VW at CP?

Chain them up after training, pile them into the back of an unmarked van and lock them up in the bowels of Lennoxtown only to be released on match day?

Neither wanted to stay at Celtic.

Hey didn’t you notice the old days of footballers’ contracts have gone?

  19. Nice to see the blog has calmed down a bit since the results of the last few games, bar the one on Sunday even those of us who wanted RD oot. We will get nowhere without supporting him and the team, they get enough of a slagging off from the MSM and their like without us contributing to it,

  20. Mea culpa

I missed the fact that Mags had made the initial remark about VW and VVV.

    Apologies

So the question is directed to Maggie.

  21. Just to say (again). The smsm are racist. They are just doing the country’s bidding.

Just because you don’t think Ronny is any good doesn’t mean you are taking side with the smsm.

It is possible live in more than one dimension.

The big question you should be asking is why our illustrious board allow the smsm to attack everythingceltic with impunity.

The bed doesn’t appear to be shared by the fans of other clubs in Scotland most of whom seem to want him to stay in his job. Why might that be?

  23. We still have a couple of years of Craig Gordon hopefully. Even when he’s off he’s better than anything else we can afford.

Two new chaps at the back make me interested. Simonovic, Sviatchenko and Tierney in front of Gordon with one A Other (as yet undecided) sounds stable and worth watching.

There has to be a midfield in there as well. Brown, Allan, Biton, Christie, McGregor, I don’t know but there has to be a core in what we have.

Griffiths up front plus one A Other since none of what we have cuts it.

I’d have 7 of the above starting every week and be happy if they played pretty soccer ball.

Kennedy, love you son but you should have been a kit man or taken care of in another way.

Collins? Aff ye go. Sayin’ nothing.

Still think Ronny is a good guy though but if he was a movie he’d be A Bridge Too Far.

Snowing here right now but made it through Monday relatively unscathed.

    i want 5 in a row.

will changing manager now absolutely guarantee that ? I think not.

i never fully supported the Ronny appointment , i gave him pelters in the 1st half of last season, quite simply for not playing to the players strengths. I dont really get where the attacking football is.

i would guess maybe 10 really good perfromances in the last 20 months.

now having said that, i would not replace him now.

its all about getting the 5. change can come later.

in an ideal world. the absentee kaiser would sell up, and the fans take up the shares,

oh, and peter retire now please, or move south, loads of jobs there for a man with your skills.

What do they know about BSR that the rest of us don’t?

  26. Neganon

We, as a people are a minority in Scotland and the newspapers, radio and TV only print what they do to get clicks on their links to keep their advertisers happy. We are not in that demographic, remember the hearse outside Celtic Park for a very small overdraft – compared to murrays capitlisation of the huns.

We must create more of our own media to combat this

  27. CLUNKS – Exactly, for the next 3 to 4 months let’s show the world that we are Celtic supporters faithful through and through , give Ronny the help he needs by supporting him in his difficult time and the rest will take care of itself at seasons end

  28. NegAnon2 on 8th February 2016 11:52 pm

100% with you on that. I don’t see the MSM outside of aunty and Grauniad and they are bad enough, can’t imagine the bile on radio and print. The Ronny out brigade – whilst I’m sure a few fans are influenced by it – aren’t necessarily drinking from the tainted cup.

I haven’t seen or heard any evidence of that, apart, perhaps a bit of terracing banter.

There is plenty of evidence to suggest that some of us and the SMSM share the same views, no matter their motives.

    Yep, strange bedfellows.

Talking of which, this strange fellow is heading for bed.

It is not our job to get managers sacked.

  30. Possibly the problem with the movement Celtic sites like CQN is they have created a forum so powerful that the average fan thinks his opinion is golden.

When you get thousands in the same place you get 15 pages of posts like CQN, is it a victim of its own success??

  31. Just been lookin out the window tonight for signs of flyin pigs or blue moons… Nope, not a one… and so therefore it must be another phenomenon… the apparition of Hoops fans turning away from sacking the Manager, Board, Players and Tea Serving personnel. I dont say, that to a man we are suddenly giving the Club our undying support, but, its seems to me, that tonight ateast for example, we seem to have shown more support and solidarity for our Club, Manager etc, that at any time recently. This despite a few in a row poor, (very poor) performances.

Are we at last uniting behind the Hoops and standing up against our enemies, who are desperate to put us down? It looks like it.!!

I hope we can stay together on this.. comment, criticize, complain.. but lets not give them the ammo and info they so crave.

Hail Hail all of us, COYBIG, Celtic through and through!
