Backlash needed for Highlanders

623

Three weeks after putting 8 goals past South Lanarkshire’s top team Celtic struggled to demonstrate their superiority against the county’s least decorated SFA member

We’ve seen these games before, East Kilbride looked no weaker than the Arbroath team who took us to a replay after drawing at Celtic Park a few years back, but neither performance was an endorsement of Celtic’s football.

I’m getting an uncomfortable feeling that teams know how to play Celtic. For most, this knowledge will not affect the result, but some, like Ross County and Aberdeen, will figure they can give us the ball all day, and as long as they stick to task, they’ll have a chance.

The only resolution to the ills of the last three outings is to get back on the field and boss a game the way we did several times last month. Ross County and Inverness both visit Celtic Park in the next two weeks and both need to feel a backlash. Let’s hope.

    a fair analysis ….

I will admit that I was one who was very frustrated by the football played during WGS’s last season … but am looking back fondly on it at the moment! We do have to be careful what we wish for!

Like you, I do think that a culture shift is needed if Scottish football is to catch up ….. cant see too many of the Italian teams/players getting caught out on the bevy before a game … sleeping with a teammates wife perhaps (Lentini was one such case I recall ) perhaps, or PED’s okay, but not boozing a few nights before a game ….

  5. It’s just as well Celtic are drawn away from home so often in the Cup.

Their record during the aforementioned period in games where they were drawn at home (e. excluding home replays) is:

    Won 0% Drawn 50% Lost 50%

Goals per game: For 1, Against 1.5

    Meanwhile, their away record reads:

    Won 83.3% Drawn 11.1% Lost 5.6%

Goals per game: For 2.6, Against 0.4

I’m away for a lie down!

Maybe that’s because he’s proving to be not that good.

I’m still supporting him for now btw, just.

I never responded to yourvenquiry re my salary as I missed that particular post. I work for the NHS so you can safely assume I don’t have a heated driveway.

I never claimed to manage £zillions.. What I have said in the past is that PL salary and bonus is way out of kilter with the responsibilities he carries. £1m a year for managing a £50m turnover and sub £10m profit is a lot.

I have said an NHS CEO managing a £1bn budget involving life or death decision making typically earns £150k/ annum. I’m not a CEO btw.

I didn’t see how much you earn and frankly I’ve no interest – I don’t measure fellow posters by their income.

  9. Noticed a few comments regarding Speirs suggestion on Shortbread that we should go for McInnes, as he is ‘the best manager in Scotland’.

I heard the show but thought it was much more enlightening to hear Keith Hack-Hun His suggestion . ‘ sack Ronny and go for Alan Stubbs…….’. mmmhhhhh.

Very good Keith , derailing Hibs challenge and getting us to pay for it….very neat but a wee bit too transparent.

If Keith is thinking Celtic should be ‘going for the best’ I wonder why he didn’t suggest Warburton…..

Tommy Burns would have sympathy for the boy. That’s what made him a special person.

  11. If we had to choose a manager that is currently plying his trade in scotland, I would go for John Hughes, he has done wonders with ICT on a shoestring, likes to play the game the way it should be played, and wouldn’t waste any time in knocking the ego out of any of our so called superstars, he would be cheap, can spot a player, gets Celtic, doesn’t have too much time for the media.

The hypocrisy of the MSM is truly something else.

They wined and dined with Murray, while he fed them succulent lamb and succulent guff.

They wrote about £600m casinos and floating pitches. They wrote about signing Ronaldo.

They told us Craig Whyte was a billionaire with wealth off the radar.

They told us if “Rangers” weren’t in the top league all the TV and sponsorship deals would be cancelled and five SPL clubs would go bust.

They can’t even use the word “liquidated”.

And they have the temerity to tell us that our manager is no good at HIS job?

    You couldn’t make it up!

There is little choice in reality, and I agree with Marspapa that Neilson is a decent shout, Stubbs would be the only other in with a shout imo, but hopefully if the suits decide that RD is no longer required, and I’m no convinced they will get shot, if they have a long term plan they will stick with him come what may, I hope they go foreign again, but this time look to Spain.
