Wee Oscar’s dad, Knoxy, asked me to relay this message to you……
“The BIG cycle to Belfast… WOW! What an absolutely incredible effort by so so many people all to raise money for our wee hero, and a great night was had by all on Saturday night up at Donegal Celtic. It is very very humbling and I really felt that my thanks conveyed to them all on Saturday night was just not enough. I know they didn’t do it for thanks or for a pat on the back but I really hope they know that both me and Leona are deeply deeply moved by what they have done.
Over the last 9 months we have thanked many hundreds of people for all sorts of different things they have done for Oscar and I’m sure after a while the thanking almost comes across a bit ‘rehearsed’ and maybe a bit insincere but we just want to make sure they all know how thankful we are to them and to the amazing people who have donated to such a whopping total!”
Fantastic work by all, very well done.
Celtic have conceded 16 goals in the 9 games since Efe Ambrose’ much debated return to the team which faced Juventus last month, a period which saw them eliminated from the Champions League and the League Cup, while losing to Motherwell and Ross County.
They conceded 16 goals in the previous 24 games, including two Champions League games against Barcelona, one against Benfica and one against Spartak Moscow. A problem which initially appeared to be limited to Efe, has clearly affected others, including Kelvin Wilson and even the goalkeeper looks less assured than before.
More than any other facet of football, defending is dependent on confidence and teamwork. If communication is poor, you make mistakes. If you expect teammates to make mistakes, you’ll make decisions accordingly. If your decisions reflect a lack of confidence, you’re on a slippery slope to losing goals. Bad defenders look good in good teams but good defenders look hopeless once order is disturbed.
Only just catching up with the antics on Gallowgate on Saturday. Not read about the destruction of property or occasions of assault, which I assume preceded the mass arrests. Surely? I’m not sure if Alex Salmond has renewed the high levels of police funding for football-related activity, which was initially due to expire at the end of this month, but for someone who is usually so politically savvy, he seems to have set off on a road without checking consequences of the legal questions.
A bit like his major project…..
Where we are today is a consequence of the First Minister’s initiatives in 2011, and is why Celtic fans, the Club, and many others, opposed the initiative at the time. It’s playing out pretty much as everyone with an interest in football expected. Mr Salmond’s Scotland is looking a bit like Mrs Thatcher’s Yorkshire, circa 1984.
You’re as well blaming the inclement weather as blaming the police or anyone in the game, the police, like the weather, do what they do. This is the work of the Other Charlotte Square Bogeyman.

Regarding efe, he shoulda been givem a week off after nations cup, esp after the juve game.
I agree with that. I praise him for his professionalism in wanting to play in the Juve game.
He had just won the equivalent of the World Cup for his country. How many Scottish players would have done that.
Perhaps a week off to visit his family before the Cup semi may be a good move.
I would never like to see him as a scapegoat. Others in the team should be standing up and working harder especially in midfield.

“Obviously I’ve been that bit luckier than yourself and STEINREIGNEDSUPREME as I had a touch of the teflons.”
Sometimes these things are just down to bad luck. Many people have suffered much worse at the hands of the police than me – and not been granted proper justice either.
I even get angry watching Billy Elliott when I see their behaviour – it brings back bitter memories.
Although I would rather have avoided the experience it taught me a lot. The main lesson is I don’t trust the police and I never will. I never believe anything they claim in a disputed situation with the public.
………………..just trying to catch up have I missed the Martin Niemoller post?
I see our beloved MP’s have gifted themselves iPads at £700 a piece = £140000. You couldnt embarrass that lot if you slapped them across the face with it!!

glasgow city council has been run by labour for several generations
anti-catholic marches have remained right throughout the troubles and beyond in glasgow, they should have been exterminated from glasgow decades ago and they haven’t
that is the fault of labour controlled glasgow city council
and then matheson agree to have more blooming marches, as if sectarianism isn’t enough of an issue
Some ordered 2 btw

” He had just won the equivalent of the World Cup for his country.”
What is the equivalent if Nigeria ever win the world cup??!!
I agree in part with your post but I think efes errors have been little to do with tiredness.

What is on that recording backs up what i was told at the weekend by a CST member who had a discussion with Lawell. He admitted to the Trust’s memebr that they were passing on the info of GB members to the police. The CST are looking into the legality of Celtic FC PLC’s actions. Mr Lawell states he’s sure the club are not acting outwith the law.
If CFC crush the Green Brigade i am withdrawing my financial support from the club.
Half man half mattress our Efe!!

” We pay for them btw.”
So do they.
I too didnt see any Efe mistakes leading to the Aberdeen goals .
I did see Wilson and Forster continuing their Ross County nightmare.
Efe has loads of talent but the whole team has gone a bit fragile in recent weeks so generally the confidence is not good.
geordie munro
Certainly Nigeria have a better chance than Scotland in winning anything.
:>}
Not sure it is tiredness more a lack of form at Centre Back. Also on Saturday Big Vic was missed in the centre of midfield.
Googybhoy.
They have just proved that.
Big Vic missed?? Oh gawd aye.
Even when we win easy I would still miss him ;)
Wilson has been very good this season, but he really has to man up and punch his weight when he’s up against a physical striker.

Labour, upon achieving the power to do so in 1997,did more for the poor in society than any government since Attlee post-WWII and Asquith pre-WWI.
To deny that is fatuous.

It didn’t go down well with all those fans of ” meaningful music “

Hell, I would do so far as to say that over the last few years, Nigeria had a better chance of winning the European Championships than Scotland did!
Hopefully, WGS (i) brings more Celts into the squad (I really would like to support Scotland, but found it hard to do so under their bigotted regimes), and (ii) brings them some success. If anyone can cut through the BS, it is WGS.

Well said mate, 1997:
2 and a half year hospital waiting lists to see a consultant to then get access to an NHS of decrepit hospitals with demoralised staff.
Fund holding GP’s, which we are just about to return to……..the first thing the tories did on gaining power was to stop calculation & publication of waiting lists.
Schools were falling down, kids being taught in hovels.
4% of the poulation went to Uni.

Fortunately the police have now lost the trust of the public to such an extent hat even my Mum isn’t on their side anymore.
I reckon she’d be down the local nick wi a pitchfork or a petrol-bomb if her grandson was ever in trouble with them.
Point being that to have alienated my Mum-and most of her friends,btw-they have clearly done something wrong.
Policing by consent is clearly a pipedream nowadays.
Jude,
They’ll be paying for them in the same way you’ll be paying for them.
p8ddy – nice to see you back on CQN this last while.
Always enjoyed your posts while often disagreeing. Can’t believe you’re defending this ludicrous legislation though which started with the ludicrous premise that both sides were equally guilty and then set about creating a law to reflect that position.
Idolising a person because of their actions is wrong. The personality cult that sprang up after the late Paul McBride got tore into the SFA for anti-Celtic bias, and because he was targeted by a pair of Orange bigots is wrong.
Sure he said the right things then, but he should be judged on his actions following these incidents in an objective manner and with regard to his statements in support of the proposed Offensive Behaviour at Football Matches legislation he did himself, and the Celtic support no favours.
Why he did it is anybody’s guess, but he put himself in a tiny minority in the legal establishment and was unable to put up any convincing arguments for his support on Newsnight Scotland where his opponent, solicitor, Ian Smart of the Law Society, wiped the floor with him. See video halfway down page here:
http://scottishlaw.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=McBride
We are seeing the result of this “evening up” law now. The police wanted the new laws to give them more power and by God they are using it.
A law directed at one section of the community (football supporters) is now being unfairly directed against one set of supporters within that section of the community………………………….US!
Let Paul McBride rest in peace and judge the ill-conceived laws on their implementation, which is manifestly unfair, bordering on fascist.
