128 seems impossibly indiscriminate

1423

Banning 128 fans seems impossibly indiscriminate.  I don’t know how it was decided but it sounds like “those eight columns and sixteen rows” – painting with a very broad brush.  If so, the Club must meet with those in the affected area as soon as possible to allow fans who have had nothing whatsoever to do with vandalism or dangerous behaviour to continue to follow their club.  If such a letter arrived on my doorstep, I would want to face the Club urgently.  We’ve all been tarred by the pyros, banners and vandalism, but some are paying a higher price.

Unless there is specific evidence against an individual, the default expectation must be that bans will be lifted after interview.

Back in July, after the Club and the Green Brigade met to agree a way forward following some early season Uefa disciplinary problems, we wondered if either could control every last hanger-on hoping to ‘stick it to the man’.  Statements in recent days from both organisations show how impossible this has proven to be.

When I wrote my article on Saturday I didn’t expect the condemnation of the previous night’s incidents, from all sections of the support, to be so comprehensive.  We’ve seen elsewhere the damage procrastination and deflection can be.  There is no need to deflect.  We will not blame Chelsea fans. Nor is there need for ‘whataboutery’. Vandalising seats and throwing flares is now endemic in our game but Celtic fans are judged by higher standards. The Celtic support is characterised by by enormous generosity. Still.

I disagree, its about attitude and perception, if you think its just a bit of paper to stop the company getting sued then thats were the problem is! I am the bad side of H&S audits and the H&S departments scrutinising everything I do, but its for the people on the parks safety in my opinion. and to protect me.

  2. I love bridies but can’t remember the last time I tasted one, unfortunately.

Impressed that Neustadt can make his own.

I’d like to know who actually leaked it, because I phoned the ASA at lunchtime and it’s embargoed until next week and that usually means the press wouldn’t get it until Monday.

I suspect Media House have been a wee bit naughty here.

  4. hey DB ….howz yer good self …Bridie making started in the early hours of this morning as I staggered to ma scratcher …350g of good Irish H-Bone marinating in a pepper mix ….sliced finely tonight and covered with red onion and sage ..wrapped in short short short pastry and slowly baked …..a few spuds and NB is in a fine fine place when the Celtic come out to play ….aye its a hard life but someone has to do it ….braw …..

hankray, Got a great kick out of that video. The Spillane Family were my next door neighbours back in Cork. Know John very well. Back to lurking.

  6. Why am I getting the feeling that when the full ASA adjudication is published next week it’ll paint a different picture to that being presented today. Of course by that point it’ll be too late. Media House will have been successful.

“But H and S implementation in this country is beyond a joke now.

    Risk assessments for literally everything.

Not about preserving life really about minimising litigation”

I am confused. You show that you know that litigation is the problem but seem to criticise H & S for protecting employers, employees , Councils, schools etc from that litigation.

Sounds good. Many people coming to watch the football here think the only good thing about Dunfermline is the Stephen’s Steak Bridie.

They are pretty good but I once worked mates with a Dundee man who would bring me in a Dee Bridie and it was streets ahead of the Auld Grey Toun’s ones.

    Anyone heard of the Dee?

I agree with you, its all about perception and some people just dont get it! They think its a hassell! 36 people have died this year on building sites and an average of 54 for the last 5 years! one is far to many,

its going the right way but not fast enough, and its mostly down to the attitude of people that cause these.

  17. Evening Big Nan….

………………………….the fishmongers Camerons on Castle St Forfar ….you can honestly spend days in that wee shop ….aye used to bring auld Cameron game that I had shot…shop is full of absolutely the best of gear….

but your spoilt for choice all over our beautiful land for great food …I,ll be back chomping away …from Dec 27 onwards …braw ….

  18. Although tonight’s game is a dead rubber for both teams, Barca will want to put on a bit of a show for the home fans who turn out.

Celtic fans might be relaxed about the outcome but our team will be deadly serious about proving a point that they belong here. Bookies will give generous odds against Celtic achieving a draw far less a win but the avoidance of a heavy defeat from a determined Barca might be as big an achievement.

Whether we go attacking or defensive, some in our support will still criticise that we should have gone the other way. I will say, in advance, that I cannot see anything but harm coming from an attacking line up. Barca do not let you attack them too often. What is more important is that, when we do break, we are able to flood the box with support midfielders. This is a day for the runners and athletes in our team. Brown, Lustig and Ambrose will be huge players.

We have a big loss at left back. it is hard to ask Adam to make his comeback at the Camp Nou so we could see Charlie at LB and I always fear for Charlie when he has to face a tricky winger.

    My team:-

    Forster Lustig Anbrose VVD Charlie

    Brown Biton Ledley

    Commons Samaras

Pukki (playing the Miku role from last year)

3 Subs used from these 4 :- Fisher, Boerigter Stokes and Balde

  19. Talking about birdies ….. Went to a match in Forfar ( Scottish cup) few years back.

Think we played them 2 years in a row.

Anyway, this was the first year we played them.

Off the bus and feeling a bit pecking, managed to secure the last 2 bridies in the wee bakers shop.

Was tempted to nail them straight away en route to the pub but didn’t.

Save them for when I’m having a beer was the plan.

Into the boozer , quite busy, waiting to be served clutched the prized bridies in a paper bag.

Placed the order and just as I was about to pay the erse fell out the bag!!

Ma bridies, watch ma bridies , but alas as I bent down to pick them up a big muckle size 12 destroyed them.

Always wondered what they bridies tasted like???

I have worked in many hazardous environments, and also had the misfortune to have been present at the scene of a fatal accident many years ago.The injuries I sustained were nothing compared to a poor guy who got killed and several others whose injuries were life changing. There is no bigger defender of working safely in any environment than yours truly.I have seen close hand how big business tries to protect itself at a Fatal Accident Inquiry,by subtly questioning the behaviour and characters of its employees.

Health and Safety at Work Act and the Management Regulations are not implemented properly in the UK in my experience and are biased more towards financial risk management than protection of life and limb.I say this from personal experience and accept your perception and experiences are different to my own.

Anyway,Come on you Bhoys in Green tonight…..Hail Hail

  22. Corkcelt………… That’s a coincidence that you happen to be an old neighbour of John Spillane. he was on the Mooney show on RTE this afternoon and they reckon this is going to be a big hit. Reminds me a bit of the Limerick lads song about the horse outside.

Nice humour and even had that guy doing the Haka.

  27. Weeminger. Not necessarily. It could be embargoed until Monday, in which case the press would get it before then (but be asked to respect the embargo). Of course, you are always taking a but of a risk sending out something too early, especially if there is a chance that the Sundays might pick it up and break the embargo.
